This was my favorite breakfast in Puerto Viejo. I ordered the creamy eggs with rice with bacon and fruit and a biscuit. Everything was very fresh and very tasty. I also bought a couple chocolates to go that were the perfect snack on the long...ride back to San Jose.More

Enjoyed an amazing breakfast here - great coffee, juice, pancakes with chocolate sauce - all yum! With the added benefit of wifi as ours had dropped out at the AirBnB. Ticked all the boxes for breakfast.

It was so busy and we could tell why. Bread and Chocolate was one of the most recommended places we go to eat while we were on our trip. Our food was wonderful, the staff cared about every guests experience, and there were some people...playing very relaxing music. We had to wait a little but for a table, like most people did, but it was definitely worth it. We had the french toast and the biscuits and gravy. We also got hot and cold mochas. All of it was better than we could've imagined. We also got chocolate to bring home!More

Off the beaten path. This is a small restaurant that serves breakfast all day. We had a variety of dishes all of which had good presentation and tasted good. Our sever was very accommodating and friendly. She spoke both English and Spanish which helped us...to order our meal. The food was pretty quick to be prepared and served to us. Especially for how busy they were, the level of service was great. Definitely worth stopping in, if you’re looking for a breakfast type of an option.More

So we were super pumped to hear that Tom, the owner, had not in fact sold this gem of Puerto Viejo, as was rumoured. Tom, your staff are still remarkable. Has to be 20 visits now since 2010, always a minimum of 2 times per...vacation in Puerto. Been here twice now in 3 days, and you can be sure another's a lock. I love the scrambled eggs with cream over a double boiler. Best I've ever had; been trying to come close at home, but always fall short. I'm in good company. NO ONE can make it as good! Funniest thing though, my wife's waffles yesterday? ALSO the best I've ever had! Shocking how good they were. They look just like what you'd get at any breakfast place, but they were SO light, and the syrup and whipped cream they're served with are the perfect sweetness. Folks, I'm telling you, they were a 10 out of 10. Can't get better. My daughter had French Toast that I sampled, and it was near perfect too. Her BF had what I had and agreed how great they were. There was a nice man playing guitar and singing our first visit, which was super nice. This is common, and has been the case a few times over the years. I think I'm somewhere around 20 visits to B&C now. I'm getting up there in years, but when I first went in 2010 I had never HEARD of a French Press in Canada. Never once saw one in a restaurant before, but have seen it a few times since. I never make coffee any other way at home now. B&C's coffee is first rate; only been matched at one other place, up the highway towards Manzanillo but somewhere in between. They were using Reye Tarazzu, which oddly enough I haven't been able to find anywhere in Costa Rica this trip, which makes me sad. I don't know what Tom uses, but it's great. See you soon (this week). Tom, you're place is in GREAT hands!More

So, we don't normally eat at the same restaurant more than once when we visit new places. Bread and Chocolate broke our rule. This was hands down our favorite breakfast place in Puerto Viejo. Over two visits, we tried the Patacon Avo Toast, Banana Pancakes,...Breakfast Bagel, and the Completely Homemade PB&J. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The only thing I'd pass on next time is the PB&J. It was good, but I sacrificed ordering the BBQ Sammy which I probably would have liked more. They're closed on Monday, so keep that in mind if you're the type to plan every meal. Don't miss out on this spot. It's one of the best breakfasts we've had in Costa Rica. We vacationed in Puerto Viejo for seven days and four of those days we had breakfast at Bread and Chocolate. The food is amazing and so fresh. Loved the Caribbean Pancakes (banana and coconut). They were very moist. The avocado toast that was served on...a fried plantain was amazing as well. Not to mention the smoked salmon on a fresh homemade bagel! Can’t say enough good about this place.More

Yes, their chocolate truffles and desserts are excellent but I often go to Bread & Chocolate for their smoked salmon bagel sandwich with a side of gazpacho. Truly good bagels, also the only bagels I´ve found in town lol. Also, excellent coffee and service.

Mediocre/very simple food. The "creamy scrambled eggs" stated in the menu where dry. Staff not attentive (2 of 3 did not get what we ordered and the waiter made a point out of not being interested). Not worth a visit at all.

Sandwiches were amazing, filling and delicious ingredients. Everything is quality. We ate here our last morning and we’re sad we only found it then. We bought a brownie and some chocolates when we left and they were 10/10. Highly recommend

One of the best place we ate in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. Close to the city center, it offers genuine and tasty plates, hot and cold. Much appreciated!
