Waffle Monkey is the only place in Tamarindo specializing in all-day homemade Belgian waffles with an array of toppings to choose from. We offer hot and cold coffees as well as smoothies, milkshakes, and ice cream. Taking into consideration food restrictions some clients may have, we offer GLUTEN-FREE and Vegan waffles as well as dairy-free milk (almond milk). We also have specials that change daily.

Before our trip to Costa Rica I read many restaurant reviews and Waffle Monkey was on my “Must Try” list... it definitely did NOT disappoint.
My wife and I stopped in a few times during our trip for iced coffee in the morning. My wife does not drink dairy so was very happy to find out they had almond milk as an option. We decided to make it our breakfast stop for our final morning in Tamarindo. Staff is very friendly and treated us very well. Checking in often to see how everyone was enjoying their meal.
The waffles were hot and crisp. Toppings were fresh and delicious. Of the 3 different waffles I sampled, I would recommend the apple pie waffle. The kids also quite loved the frozen strawberry drink which is basically a smoothie. One is large enough to split between the two children.
Of all our stops in Tamarindo, this is definitely one the whole family agrees is a “can’t miss” location.

We just got back from Tamarindo and loved it! We ended up at Waffle Monkey our last 3 mornings (prior to that we had early morning excursions). The waffles were yummy, the tables were right on the beach. We went early morning - around 7:30 and it was very peaceful, and late morning which was much busier - but by the time our food was cooked, we were able to get a table. Lastly, the staff is so friendly. It was a great way to start the morning in Costa Rica!

I have only been to WM once during my two months in Tamarindo, but most of my housemates ate there a handful of times and we are all in agreement; the place serves a wonderful variety but can be slightly pricey given the portions. Most of their waffles are sold at more than $10 and their shakes go for more than $5. The shake price is understandable but the food cost seems slightly too high. When I think of a 10+ dollar waffle based breakfast, I expect either a massive waffle or multiple smaller ones. While they are delicious, I don't believe WM lives up to their value.

Should I feel ashamed that I ate waffles 6 days in a row? Maybe. But it was vacation, and the siren's song of the waffles called to me each and every morning after my first encounter. The OG Waffle Monkey with shaved coconut and honey is as close to the Sun of breakfast perfection as I dare fly. But seriously, even if you remotely think you might enjoy waffles, these will turn you into a waffle-fiend.

We have been coming to Tamarindo for many years and finally visited Waffle Monkey after my son said "we need to go". Well after that we just had to go and have been twice this visit and a 3rd visit is in the future. This place has great service and even better waffles. The apple pie waffle is the best. Visit here if ever in Tamarindo, there are many that may serve waffles, but go to the best.

I definitely recommend visiting this place. They serve delicious waffles and wonderful coffee and to make it even better, you can enjoy your food sitting in a nice table in front of the ocean. Ricardo the owner is sooo welcoming and always with a friendly smile. Great food and great service! You should definitely give this place a try.

I recently had the good fortune to have brunch at the NEWLY REOPENED Waffle Monkey in Tamarindo, where I had the most delicious savory waffle, something I had never tried before. My ham and cheese waffle was crisp, toasty and loaded with ham and cheese, perfectly seasoned and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. What a treat! And such a good pairing with the excellent cappuccino I had ordered. The multi-lingual staff is super attentive and helpful, service rapid and polite. I cannot finish without highlighting how delightful it was to enjoy my waffle and coffee right on the beach, since Waffle Monkey has tables seaside. Sweet or savory, this is the place in Tamarindo to treat yourself to excellent, made-to-order waffles (and coffee). And if you're lucky, you might even see a monkey to two!

We ate at Waffle Monkey during our recent stay in beautiful Tamarindo. Nothing but good things to say about our experience. The gentleman that served us was very friendly and witty. The food and drinks were amazing. We had the bacon and egg waffle and waffle monkey- bananas, shaved coconut, and honey, with strawberries added; iced coffee and frozen mango drinks. The sauce that came with the bacon and egg waffle was incredible. A perfect balance of spicy, sweet, and tangy. The atmosphere was also amazing. We ate at a table at the edge of the beach that was shaded by palms. Perhaps the most memorable aspect of the experience were the reptilian “dogs”- we were hoping to see local wildlife while we were visiting, and that’s what’s we got. A handful of iguanas came and hung out with us while we ate. It was quite the experience; they too are evidently fans of the delicious monkey waffles as well. We will certainly be going back to Tamarindo, and we will certainly be getting us some more waffle monkey on the beach when we do!

Waffle Monkey was the only place on my “must eat” list while we were down in Costa Rica for my birthday earlier this month.
First, it’s a wonderful little gem with seating on the beach (always a plus for a place to have a nice view) and the tables and chairs were always clean.
Second, Ricardo is what makes Waffle Monkey so special to me. He is sooooo friendly and really enjoys telling you about the hot spots in Tamarindo and surrounding. We enjoyed talking with Ricardo almost more than the delicious waffles themselves!
Now onto the food. We ordered the Salty Pig, add chocolate chips inside the waffle and caramel syrup to drizzle over the waffle. Absolute perfection! Everything was fresh and hot and the waffle itself was fluffy inside and perfectly crispy outside.
Definitely check out Waffle Monkey if you’re in the area! They’re usually open pretty early until around 2-3pm but are closed on some weekdays.

We took our airbnb host recommendation to stop by Waffle Monkey for some coffee and waffles. A wonderful spot with great service. Ricardo is from Brazil originally and manages the place and is very friendly to everyone, making sure we are taken good care of. He also provided surfing advice to us Aussie surf lovers :) We had the salty pig and the fruta waffle special, both were delicious. Go check it out!!

Waffle Monkey is simply wonderful. The waffles are creative and great, the restaurant is perfectly local and about 5 minutes away, and the staff is really friendly! Since it was my first time going there this morning, they showed me how the menu worked and that they're flexible to take off and add on toppings. There were tables on the beach to watch the ocean too. Great job Crazy Monkey.

We've got to this place looking for some dessert one afternoon and were not disappointed.
I ordered the chocolate waffle and my friend got one with ham and cheese, both were pretty tasty, the smoothies we also ordered were very good.
Overall a nice little place to quickly snack on some carbs.
Would go again given the change

Great coffee!!
Loved the fresh fruit options.
The main guy from Brazil was especially friendly and attentive. We stayed in a nearby apartment for a week and he was always helping my 10-year-old order, making change for us or just saying, "Hola!"
Only downsize was it was moy costosa (very expensive) compared to typical Costa Rican prices.
We will definitely be back to this special spot next winter!

During our two week trip to Tamarindo in mid-November, we ate at Waffle Monkey THREE times. Wish we could’ve gotten in a fourth or fifth visit. The waffles were beyond the Belgian waffle experience we had before and Ricardo was there every time to serve us safely. He gave us great recommendations on both the food and other places to check out in Tamarindo. There was a great beach-front seating area that was cleaned regularly and the view was 👌🏼. Our favorite waffles were the Waffle Monkey and Easy & Cheesy (add bacon always). Do not leave Tamarindo without checking this place out.

Great beachfront spot for breakfast. The coffees were expensive but the waffles were reasonably priced, delicious and lots of flavors to choose from. We had the chicken and waffles and the honey w/caramelized banana, eggs and bacon. They have outside tables next to the beach. Expect to have street vendors and stray dogs approach you, and lots of flies but if you can get over those things it’s worth a stop. Lots of cute little souvenir stores in the area too you may want to make time for. A good experience overall. We will likely be back if ever in the Tamarindo beach area again.
