Casual dining on the beach in Samara. Happy hour drinks. We ate here twice the second time though they made a mistake on our bill and instead of paying under $20 our card was charged $168. We challenged the billing and hopefully it will be...settled correctly....More

At 2000 between 4 and 7pm, you can’t really go wrong for cocktails with your feet in the sand and views along the beach we’ve checked the menus and sampled at other places which were twice the price and imo not twice as nice. Friendly...service and laid back atmosphere so we ate here on our last night in Samara and while nice (extra nice with the cats who appear from nowhere), the price compared to other rustic beach front establishment vs quality of food did leave me a little underwhelmed.More

We enjoyed the beautiful beach views and a lunch of fresh tuna on a complex green salad with house made dressing (hotter dressing on the table if you like), shrimp tacos and fresh fish. The service, from Miguel, was attentive and gracious and the food...was fresh, and delicous.Even the water was beautifully presented. The prices were very reasonable. Thank you, we will return.More

Miguel delivered kindness and fresh delicious food made with love. Homemade fishsticks, tuna steak served on salad with walnuts, cranberries, olive, red pepper, leaf lettuce and house dressing. ALL at low prices. We will be back!

Family vacation. Had been here before a couple of years ago... Was pretty good back then. However, has changed. The entrance to the restaurant from the beach is very "shabby" and has a repulsive smell which is very uninviting. The eating area near the beach...very nice. However our waiter had TERRIBLE customer service, to the point that we asked a waitress to tend to us instead of her lame coworker. Food was pretty good, but definitely not as good as some years ago. In conclusion ok for a meal, but there are other better places in Samara.More

The ceviche is very good here. The rice and shrimp, rice and vegetables, and rice and mixed seafood are also favorites. The traditional dinner Casada (with Steak) is very good too. The bar drinks are cheap and well made. They have a good selection of...beers. The tables on the beach are nice, but you might be pestered by passing leaf-cutter ants or peoples dogs. It's a very local kind of vibe though, and nobody seems to be upset about it. This proved to be our favorite place in Samara to eat. If you like seafood, it's a must stop. Not fancy, just good and inexpensive food.More

Fresca Strawberry smoothie made with bar syrup, disgusting mussel appetizer. We pulled the plug and ejected ourselves outa here. Cool location. right on beach and my beer was cold.

Very cool spot with tables on the beach, and a nice bar. Great location to sit in the dark of the evening, hear the ocean, eat a nice meal, and have a few beers.

I was in a group of seven, and we chose this restaurant because of it's lovely location and because you can pay by card and they can cope with payments by individuals. The mojitos were refreshing, but tasted only of mint and lemon, no depth...or kick. I enjoyed my starter of guacamole and plantain. The seafood soup was plain, with a lot of cream in which made it rather rich. I think the service was intended to be unobtrusive but we had a problem getting attention and advice. We had a great time because we were a group of friends. I don't think I would have enjoyed the experience as much with only my partner. However, I decided to rate it as good because with a bit more attention to detail it would have been excellent.More

A gorgeous place to eat or enjoy a drink right on the beach. Some typical Costa Rican dishes are offered which I much appreciated in the over-touristy Samara (burgers and pastsa? come on people, let's not Americanize everything...el Ancla stays true to its roots though)....The arroz con camarrones (rice with shrimp) was excellent and plenty left over for a take-home meal. The aguas frescas are amazing too, and the fruity drink menu is not to be missed either. This was my one splurge in going out to eat in Samara and I did not regret this as my choice.More
