Great Meal ! Great Price ! Great Service ! Several visitors and locals advised us Coco Loco was one of the best places for dinner. Boy were they right. Coco's is an informal restaurant as the tables are either right on the beach or under a roof adjacent to the boardwalk. Shrimp, Tuna, Pasta, and our drinks were all awesome and very reasonably priced. They only make reservations for parties of 7+ so smaller groups prepare for a wait or show up around 5:15 before sunset and you shouldn't have a problem. You won't be disappointed !

My husband and I went to Coco Loco’s for our last night in Costa Rica and we both found the experience to be very pleasant. Our server was very nice and while we waited for a table to we were able to get a bottle of wine and look through a menu before getting our seat. We were fortunate to get a table facing the beach / ocean and although we arrived shortly after the sunset, the sound of the ocean while eating dinner was very nice.

Coco Loco was our first dinner while staying near Playa Flamingo. Wait staff was extremely friendly. I have celiac disease and require a gluten free diet, and the waiters at Coco Loco were very aware of what gluten is and what dishes were naturally gluten free or could be modified. I have the Loco Coco and my girlfriend had a whole fish - both were excellent! The Peruvian ceviche was the best we had while in playa flamingo and served in a pineapple.

The setting, right on the beach, is delightful. It was light out when we first arrived, but as the sun went down and the tiki torches were lit, the atmosphere became even more wonderful. The servers were friendly and the food was delicious - especially the ceviche and the coconut shrimp.

Coco Loco is a very casual dining option on the beach in Playa Flamingo. Fresh coconuts are cut and served which are very refreshing on a hot day. The Coco Loco drink option is a alcohol infused concoction served in a coconut and is very good but go down very easy. Fish tacos were fantastic and the service is quick. It seemed that all the employees spoke english and were very good at recommending dishes based on individual tastes.

This resteraunt is right on Flamingo Beach with oustanding sunsets and outstanding food. Reserve or get there early, but even if you wait 40 minutes for a table they serve you a drink and you are watching this beautiful sunset. This is a not to be missed experience.

We visited Coco Loco twice during our stay in Playa Flamingo. Both times the food was delicious, the service very attentive, and the setting absolutely fabulous. Our favorite meal was at dinner. I had the Corvina which was delicious. My husband ordered the Churrasco steak that was out of this world. It comes with a hot lava rock where the steak can finish cooking to your satisfaction. It was melt in your mouth delicious. We watched an incredible sunset while enjoying a top notch meal. We will certainly return to Coco Loco in our future trips to Playa Flamingo.

This is the only place on the very busy Flamenco Beach. We read that we needed to get there early to get a good table to watch the sunset so we arrived at 4:45 so we could get a good table, have a drink and a bite to eat and watch the sunset. Note that the beach road cuts this place directly in half. Half the tables are inside with no or limited views of the sunset and the other half are out along the beach with great views. Each side having about 10 tables. Despite arriving at 4:45 for a 6pm sunset, every single one of the beach side tables was “ reserved” with not a single person sitting at them while there were about a dozen people waiting for a table anywhere which meant inside. The line of people waiting for a table just kept getting longer and longer while half the tables, the ones by the beach, sat empty until about ten til 6 when all the people who had reserved a table showed up, ordered a beer and watched the sunset. I don’t think I ever even saw any of them grab any dinner. They just sat there, taking up every table along the beach and then left at 630 or so. After they left, the 30 or so people who were still waiting for a table so they could eat dinner finally got seated in the dark along the beach. There were two large families that had shown up at 5:50, stayed for 20 minutes, ordered 2 beers and a pitcher of water, watched the sunset and left. We saw them eating dinner at La Forketta a mile away as we drove by at 6:45. Not to mention a bus pulled up right at sunset and dropped off a bunch of people who had reserved a table and blocked the views of everyone in the main area from seeing the sunset at all. It was very very frustrating to say the least. The food is ok, not great and the service is slow. We got there at 4:45 and sat down at 5:15 and left at 6:40. Had to go up and ask for a menu after sitting there for 15 minutes with no service. Nearly 2 hours from start to finish. The moral of the story is this place is not very well run. To block off half your tables for hours in advance of the sunset only to have them sit empty until big groups of people show up right before sunset, drink a couple of beers and leave only to go eat somewhere else while you have 20 or 30 people waiting on a table for dinner is just bad business. If you want to go here, make a reservation weeks in advance or go somewhere else. There are tons of better places up and down the beaches that will seat you right when you arrive with the same views, no roads going through the middle of the restaurant and good food and good service in a timely manner. There is no reason to put up with poor management like this on your vacation.

We came here twice in one day, that's how good it is. Good service and good dining wether inside or watching the sunset. We got coconut waters, cool-cucumber drink, coco loco drinks to start and they were all excellent, with the Coco loco being one of the best. The drinks are definitely strong and at a reasonable price. We tried the coconut shrimp and the calamari as the appetizers, and I think the coconut shrimp was some of the best I've tried in my whole life. The dipping sauce that came with it was excellent. For our mains we tried the chicken caesar, great if you want to stick with a classic item. The mahi mahi sandwich was large and appetizing, the ropa vieja was amazing with the dipping aioli, and my mom absolutely fell in love with the tuna tacos. Everything was fresh and so tasty! The sunset views cant be beat. Also plus is that they had pretty clean bathrooms!

Passed this restuarant in Flamingo on the beach and it was busy so decided to check it out for dinner. It was packed and we had to sit inside which was okay. Unfortunately the table they gave us was one of the closest to the washrooms and our entire time there we could smell sewer gas. We were starving and decided to stay in spite. 3 of us ordered the Coco Loco and 1 oredered fish- The fish was perfect but the Coco Locos were almost inedible- No one finished them as they were so much lime flavour and no coconut flavour at all that it became too much lime. Maybe they forgot to add the coconut milk. Disapppointing meal.

Great food and drinks served in a coconut. If you want to try something unique, you must try the drink coco loco and the plate loco coco. They are served in a coconut. The coco loco includes tequila and rum amongst other stuff. You must reserve if you want to see the sunset in the flamingo beach as the place gets full in a matter of minutes. Also, there is no parking lot so you need to park in the street. Since the street is narrow, it gets jammed quickly. Besides that, the view from the place is great.

We sought out this restaurant as it was rated as the #1 place to eat in the area and was taken aback upon arriving at its back alley location. The staff was friendly and attentive but it was strangely laid out. Our table was in the sand and the chairs used had us sitting so low I was barely able to see over the table. Very crowded and a long wait which we hoped was a good sign that we had found a gem of a restaurant but the sewer smell wafting through the open air dining area had our entire party wondering what all the rage about this place was.

Hello Airikka, Thank you for your review. Our beachfront restaurant is located next to the natural decaying mangroves and depending on the time of your visit it can create a more organic smell. We have the tables in the sand so we can serve customers on the beach and give them an authentic Costa Rican beach dining experience. We also have indoor seating with tables on a more level surface if the beach isn't for you. We hope you enjoyed the food and the service and we would love to see you back again for the next time you are visiting Flamingo Beach. Sincerely, - Coco Loco

Great place to go for food, recommend watching the sunset from there. Had the Churrasco Steak on the volcano rock was very nice, make sure to put all pieces on to cook, I left a few a bit late! Snapper was nice, dessert was good. Very windy and the umbrellas occasionally fell and hit a few people, may want to secure those a bit more. Overall very good.

The tacos on Tuesday were excellent. I loved the choice of meats (beef, tuna, shrimp, even octopus) and the tortilla options (flour, corn, crispy). The only complaint I have is with the outdoor lighting. In years past the outdoor eating area was lit with a string of bulbs that allowed you to see what you were doing but were not too bright. Now they have "upgraded" to individual LED lights at each table that shine down like floodlights in your face. They diminish the ambiance of sitting outside by the ocean. Maybe there is an option for each table to dim or brighten the lighting as they prefer. If not, ditch the floodlights and go back to the old lighting.

Great food, really bad service. Beverage (1 pitcher of beer for 4 people), didn't come out until we were almost finished our appetizers. The waiter never came by to check on our meals or drinks. Had to go up to the kitchen with my beer mug to get a glass of water and then wait what seemed like forever - to get our bill (our table was completely clear so it was obvious we were done). Once we got our bill, we waited for an unreasonable amount of time for our server to take our payment. He was nowhere to be seen. I'm sure he just left (perhaps end of his shift) - so we finally went up to the kitchen window to pay for our meals.
