Great spot on Playa Flamingo, really nice at sunset. We visited Coco Loco at least 3 times during our week stay in the area - lunch, dinner and drinks. The food and service are both very good. Highly recommend.

A must visit! We lived the drinks and appetizers. Wish we had discovered this place earlier in our trip. The gin drink was delicious as were the tenderloin skewers.

We stopped in based on Tripadvisor reviews. We had the crazy lemonade and Mahi sandwich. Both were really good. Service is okay. Sitting on the beach, enjoying the food and atmosphere was the best part!More

I thought we were being pranked once we tried our food. Everyone said this place was the best in the area. Woah. No. It’s the worst I’ve had in the area… in all of CR. The people who work there are so nice and the...service is great. But the food was truly awful. The only good item we liked was the fried coconut shrimp appetizer. The tico Thai soup is basically tico soup with what tasted like teriyaki on it. It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t great. It wasn’t even good. It was just ok. The cocktails were horrible. The cool-cumber drink tasted like water with slight flavor. The mint and cucumber had not been muddled at all so it just left zero flavor in the drink. Definitely couldn’t taste any alcohol. My stepdaughters cocktail was watery and just not good. The risotto reminded me of the boxed cheesy rice. I couldn’t finish it. I took it home. Still cannot finish it. See picture. My husband’s coco loco rice specialty was is it okay too. Nothing was outstanding. Most was just bad. We spent $155. Yikes. The teens ate their ribs but none of the sides that it came with. It was truly not good. I ordered my dad some risotto to-go, before having tested mine… I ordered the exact same thing as mine. He liked his. It also looked different than mine. Mine was full of cheese. Too much. Yellow cheese. His was white. I don’t know why they were so different. He also has no teeth, so maybe the texture was enjoyable. But my risotto was just AWFUL. Could not finish it. I’m not a picky eater or a food snob either. I rarely leave bad reviews. If ever. But don’t waste your $$ here. Sorry.More

Most dishes were pretty good but not remarkable and we felt very rushed by the staff. Drinks just served, appetizers ordered and delivered promptly, but our expectation to slide into entrees (ordered at app delivery) peacefully was overwhelmed by 5-minute turnaround on meal prep. The...appetizers: Coconut Shrimp lacked coconut shreds and were bland. Calamari was a bit stringy. Sweet Chile Wings were the best choice - meaty, crispy and full-flavored. Lobster Bisque - no comparison in flavor to N. Atlantic lobster in flavor depth, and suffered from lack of sherry in the broth. The same can be said for the local Lobster entree - the spiny lobster was disappointing in the lack of flavor depth expected by our American palates used to Maine lobster taste profile. (that's not the restaurant's fault!). The churrasco steak presented on hot lava rock was probably the best dish. Pork ribs earned 7/10 rating for flavor and tenderness. Sea Bass Taquitos were a letdown as the tortillas were fried to a hard crunch while the sparse fish fingers inside were dry and bland. The mixed ceviche was somewhat overwhelmingly lime soaked - which challenged the consumer to discern any difference in the flavors of the parrot fish, shrimp and octopi in the mix. It all tasted like lime juice with minimal spice detectable. Everybody seemed to despise the yucca patty side, and my rice & beans were crunchy and dry forgettable. The kid (of course) loved the fried fish fingers, which might just as well have been frozen sticks for their average flavor. All in all, Coco Loco was just another beach vacation restaurant - some good, some bad, mostly average.More

This is still my favorite dinner spot after several days in the area. The special was delicious and everything we ordered was great! Good service and reasonable prices. After eating here I was shocked at price to value ratio in Tamarindo. This place was a...great deal.More

This restaurant was highly recommended by the guidebooks but was a disappointment. Of primary concern is the safety of the ceviche, my daughter became sick after eating the ceviche (raw fish usually cooked in lemon juice). If raw fish is not kept cold and handled...properly you will get probably get seriously sick and it can ruin your vacation. You are paying top dollar for the beachside location however the drinks seemed watered down, the catch of the day poorly seasoned, lobster was tiny and lots of mosquitos (outdoor dining) to boot. My advice, be careful of the ceviche and order beer or bottled drinks.More

My 9yr old had the steak served with the 500f lava rock to finish searing it with - end of story, best dinner he's ever had. Haha. Eating on the beach with tables in the sand and watching the phenomenal sunsets on our favourite beach...will be sorely missed now we're going home.More

You can make a reservation for the tables on the beach. Most of the tables are for 4-6 but we were able to reserve a table for 2 to watch the sunset while we ate dinner. I don't think they take reservations for inside tables.

There were no lounge chairs at Coco Loco. They have a very nice sitting area for drinks or food overlooking the beautiful sea. If I remember well, there were no lounge chairs at all in this beach.
