We were craving spice after finding Costa Rican food a little bland. The place was full, so we were seated in a next door restaurant and served there. We ordered fish tacos, quesadilla, chimichanga, flautas, and a taco salad. All were good, as well as...the fresh guava juice. The food, however, could have been spicier.More

I took a group of 15 people to the restaurant on Tuesday evening. We were blessed with great service and great food. There were 2 groups there when we arrived and the expansion of the restaurant we had ample space. Norman waited outside tables too....Thank you to all of the staff at Jalapenos Cental great job. #livelove #RabminMore

Totally happy with my dinner there. I had a chimichanga and a margarita and my bill was $15. Great value!

My wife and I met some expats when we got to the restaurant and they immediately let us know they originated from Texas telling us this is the only place they have found in the whole area that has authentic Tex-Mex. Great start! Our hosts...where we were staying up the mountain above Alajuela are friends with Norman who owns Jalapeños Central and highly recommended it to us. As vegans, we always seek out vegan restaurants and those with options but we also look for certain non-vegan restaurants that we know will have basic selections that we’ll be able to order or have customized to meet vegan criteria. Tex-Mex is always a pretty sure bet to get at least something made with avocado, rice, beans and vegetables. Our server was knowledgeable about vegan and we opted for a light lunch of nachos that came with beans, guacamole, sautéed veggies, lettuce and pico de gallo. Everything was fresh and tasty. Every table got a little cup of muy caliente pepper sauce that came with a little flat paddle as to not overdose your food. Great touch. Four stars because of the funky vibe, fresh food and good service but every restaurant benefits from adding vegan options to their menu so the more we ask, the more it’s likely to appear. If you like Tex-Mex, Jalapeños Central is a sure bet when you’re in the area.More

Jalapenos is one of our go to places when we are in Alajuela. Great food and wonderful atmosphere. The new bar is a great addition.

Overall, this little city has a down and out feel but this restaurant was exceptional. Ya, the full kitchen is next door, the streets feel a little sketchy but the food was amazing. They had no craft beer and the margaritas were not special. Huge...selections for all picky eaters (vegetarian and GF included). Wonderfully seasoned food with authentic Mexican feel. Best Mexican food we had in Costa Rica.More

We wanted quick, easy, affordable and ideally good... we got all 4 at Jalapeños Central! This place is brilliant! We had dinner and it was as good as any place in Mexico, possibly better. The guacamole is limey and delicious, the hot sauce is hot,...the beans and rice are perfect. Then they cook the meat... I’m salivating writing this! If I’m ever in San Jose again, I’ll be eating here!More

We stopped at Jalepenos for a small evening bite, ordering the chips and queso and a few tacos, as well as beer. The tacos were excellent, very tasty. The chips and queso were kind of meh. I expected better chips, perhaps homemade. The service was...very friendly. The crowd seemed to be a mix of locals and tourists and the atmosphere was generally upbeat and fun.More
