The first night we were told we could choose any table outdoes; well every table had dirty dishes on them and no one was in any hurry to clean them up; instead we took a seat at the railing on a bar stool and waited...for someone to come by and take our order; after a bit we decided to move inside and sit at the bar. The Bartender was excellent - great cocktails and attentive. We had a little nibble at the bar as well and we waited a bit for the food to come but we were in no rush; night two we ate outside with our family and the service was terrible, the food was terrible - I ordered the pecan salad it came without the dressing and without the cheese; there were no utensils, the place was no t crowded, Apparently the kitchen is not on the same floor as the rooftop and the chef is not qualified.More

Great place and drinks but the service is too slow even though it’s not crowded and can be a lot better if the hospitality is good.

The LSU home game was crazy with nosebleed seats selling for hundreds even after the game started. Everything downtown was so crowded with waiting lines out the door, so we headed to the Indigo Hotel rooftop bar. There were two seats left at the bar,...which was perfect. A few people were sitting outside as well. There were two flat screens outside as well as plenty inside for every seat at the bar to be able to watch the game. Bottles of ice cold Heineken were served up as requested, reasonably priced. We ordered a veggie burger that was good but not amazing. And a salad that was also good. This was a comfortable and less crowded place to enjoy the game. Everyone there was rooting for Alabama which softened the blow of the loss. Misery loves company? Love the views and modern atmosphere.More

We were in town for work in Cottondale, the location is amazing and the view was really nice with a sunny breeze. The service was very slow and un-attentive, but they were very nice when we did interact with them. The drinks were expensive, we...only got two appetizers, deviled eggs were fantastic/ tomato, mozzarella salad was just ok. Better if they used garden tomatoes. Even though it was more of a cold appetizer, it still took 20 minutes, with only a few patrons there for the food to come out. The people were lovely, but it was not worth the time or money to be honest.More

We had the sweetest waitress, Taylor, she was so much fun. Super casual and a great place to go to chill.

Go for the drinks. Go for the snacks. But go also for the view, especially in the waning light of day and in the lights of night. This rooftop riverside bar is more than enough ambience to attract, with open-air deck seating, weather permitting. Flavor...your beverage with sundown over the river. And on performance night, eavesdrop on the nearby Amphitheater attractions. If there's a Lookout negative, it's a wish for more variety of snacks to accompany the drinks.More

Tuscaloosa, AL is a wonderful large small southern city (or alternately a small large southern town), with a distinct college town flavor. It is blessed with lots of natural beauty including the foliage (it's called the Druid City because of all of the oak trees)...and a great river view. Unfortunately not many of the local restaurants or bars take advantage of this view. The Lookout is almost ther only one that does. Located atop the Indigo Hotel (reviewed previously separately) it offers the absolutely best views of the river, bridges and sunset in Tuscaloosa. For that it is without equal. Unfortunately the food and drinks the Lookout are, at best, just average. The food tastes ok, but it is barely more than pub food and certainly not really anything I would recommend for a full meal. It is also WAY overpriced (at least for ther quality and quantity of food you receive). I absolutely hate that fact. I SO want this place to succeed. With the view and potential it has it could be as GREAT place. Unfortunately, the execution leaves a lot lacking. In full disclosure, it probably is more like a 3.5, but forced to choose, I would rather rate it a 3 in hopes that they will step up their game.More
