While visiting shanghai, we went in search of good coffee. You have to get out of the typical tourist areas. We found some good reviews in the XinTianDi area. However, Ca Sent Bon Cafe was not one of them. It should be. We were just walking down the street and saw the Barista, Que, pouring a Syphon. We stopped to... More

I visit regularly Ca sent bon to have the first coffee of the day; now moved to 1702 Huaihai Zhong Lu (淮海中路1702號), but the warm ambient and the care from Jessica and her Team is always excellent

If you walk into the little cafe, in the day, you will see Jessica behind the counter. I know this cos I walk over after lunch very frequently for a cuppa before I head back to the office. Ca Sent Bon roast their own beans, and Jessica takes the time to hand brew (dunno if this is the right term)... More

Their hazelnut latte was the best cup of coffee I had my whole trip in Shanghai. The owner was testing new roasts while I was there (bumming their free wifi) and offered to explain the syphon coffee maker she was using- its very cool. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Xintiandi.

As opposed to South Korea, high quality coffee culture and especially with coffee shops roasting their beans on location has not quite yet arrived in China. If you are looking for just that in Shanghai, this is a place you should try! "Ça Sent Bon" is located in trendy Xintiandi close to the intersection of Zizhong and Madang Roads, across... More

Staying in Xintiandi

Neighborhood Profile
The refurbishment of a block of old shikumen into a carless entertainment center called Xintiandi, filled with restaurants, shops and bars, turned this area below South Huangpi Road into one of Shanghai’s most fashionable areas. Luxe condos house people who can afford the high-end brands that fill the malls and shops along Madang Road. The pleasant Taipinghu Park provides the area with green space and is also home to Shanghai Fashion Week twice a year. It’s not all glitter and glamour, though, as the rise of Danshui Road has given the Xintiandi area a shot of toned-down character. Small bars and cafes, mostly owned by locals, have people hanging out in a formerly quiet, unassuming part of the neighborhood.
