Quiet and healthy

First time to the French concession for my fiancée, we were looking to something healthy. If you are looking at the same, don't shop around anymore, this is the place. We had pumpkin soup and avocado and bean salad. Both top top. Usual Qingdao beer with it. We are at the terrace level. Miss a star... read more

I got to know Origin when it first started as a Health Foodie place (1rst of its kind in Shanghai). Recently it adapted its concept to the local taste and now serves a variety of rather exotic desserts. Presentation and taste are both good, the latter is as funky as it gets in China. The staff seems to still need... More

Stopped by to have a peek and we got ourselves a Saturday surprise. The juices are fresh and tasty. The shakes are milky and sweet. The music kept the afternoon alive.

Living in Shanghai can be pretty exhausting ! Pollution, Noice, local food overdose ... Trust me, going to Origin is the best thing to energize yourself and eat real FRESH FOOD. They have many kind of dish (Gluten free, Vegetarian...) and organic wines ! I can't be bored about their amazing and famous avocado bean salad ! I always order... More

Small restaurant on 2 floors. Wood decoration with a mix of old and modern. It's a good place for business lunch or romantic dinner. Food taste good, service is not fast but staff is very warm hearted and smiling.

As we waited to order, the other group in the cafe were waiting on drinks which we saw were just waiting on the bench as the waitress continued cleaning cutlery (which she had been doing for some time). When the man went up to get his own coffee, he was told to sit down and that she would bring it... More

Our meals at this place was very average, and quite disappointing to the price. My tenderloin steak were simply served with french fries, despite the menucard stating that salad would also be included. Our cheese platter, which we ordered as an appetizer, arrived together with our main course.

This is a great little bistro in the French Concession. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, although their English is not so good, but ordering is made easy with photos of the menu and a numbering system, perfect for us foreigners whose Mandarin is a little rusty. The food is fresh, tasty and good value. Service is a little slow, but if... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
