Really enjoyed the experience - from the interesting entrance to the furniture and layout of the restaurant. The food was very good and the service was decent. I recommend the experience when in Shanghai.

A local Shanghainese recommended we visit this place for its quirky design and good food. We weren't disappointed. The design and decor are great. The food very good and served in interesting ways (e.g. the chinese broccoli in ice bowl), and the waitstaff was easily accessible but I wouldn't say attentive (this is the one thing which lowers my rating... Went with a local - very big canveous space and great cool bar - it was Sat night and not too busy - so very calm atmosphere. Food was incredibly fresh and the broths were amazing - not too hot or spicy. Had the scallops as entree - beautiful and the vegetable sprots and broth devine. Also had chicken and... More

A very cool place to eat modern Chinese food. Everything was well presented and tasted delicious. This restaurant is not easy to find as the signage is on a block wall and restaurant up a pathway so make sure you get good directions before you go.Once inside you are led into a dimly lit restaurant on 3 levels. This all helps... Service was quite bad. If you want to eat well, skip this place. Yes it was a modern vibe but it's dark and I wonder what else is dark in this place. I ordered only hot dishes because I lived in Shanghai for more than 10 years and hygiene is not something they are known for in the kitchen. I'm... More

I suggest you to hire waiters speaks english otherwise it must be difficult for european people to come in your restaurant. Food is not good at all. They wanna be a Chinese fusion but for me the quality was bad. It was terrible stomach immediatetly during the dinner. We ate some kind of horrible root with mango. Really horrible. Chicken... More

I really really loved this restaurant. Part of my business is taking ladies on Textile Tours (Leanne Beasley Textile Tours) and I am always looking for a really special stand out experience place - well this is it in Shanghai. Recommended by a friend of my Travel Agents, everyone loved this restaurant. Everything from the location, entering the restaurant, the... More

Dinner here had an 007 vibe. To get in and for the gate at the entrance to open, you'd need to put your hand under a sculpture. Inside, the very dim lighting and table spotlights added to the mysterious feeling. Moreover, the mirrored walls along the short dark path to the restrooms gave a maze-like effect, which I imagined would... More

New innovative restaurant in Shanghai. Didn't like food too much but place is defiantly worth visiting once. Crazy entrance and adventurous washroom are two of its specialty.

I loved the stainless steel doors and hopscotch board on the way in. The white mirrored cushy lounge is a comfortable and cool place for a drink before dinner. The sparse stainless steel and individual table spotlights make for a very zen-like feel on the 2nd and 3rd floor dining rooms. The food has lots of flavour and texture and... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
