Long flight here. Find our apartment. Dump our stuff. Look for something to eat. This is around the corner. TBH, I was wanting a more mom and pop little hole in the wall place and this is definitely not one of those but we were...hungry. Large and spacious. Food of excellent quality. Service prompt and professional. Price is decent but not cheap eats. Interesting side note: before flying to China I had been told that everyone uses WeChat to pay for everything. So I get it all set up and this is the first place that I go to try to use it... and this restaurant doesn't accept WeChat pay. Hmmm??? Otherwise, a great first restaurant of many for this foodie in Shanghai. Woot woot!!!More

A group of us had a dinner there. We ordered a number of dishes - all were very good - decent Shanghai local food. Highly recommended.

Located in a beautiful old mansion in what was the French Concession in Shanghai, this 3-storey restaurant offers a terrific introduction to Shanghai cuisine. Lots of seafood. A great seafood platter with shrimp, scallops, clams and tons of garlic. Shanghainese food is not deep fried...or heavily salted; sauteed and steamed mosst common; much use of vinegar and soy sauce. Lots of green veg too. Had private room. Service was good if not excellent. Prices very reasonable. Place pretty loud.More

We came here recently, we ordered many dishes including prawns, pork, chicken and eggplant dishes. We found all of them were saturated in thick sweet sauce. Can't taste the actual meats or vegetables flavours. Even the prawns were tasting like honey, too sweet. The Eggplant...although being covered in some thick sweet black sauce it was saturated in oil. The pork was not worth it as had big bone in each mouthful, hardly any meat. In our opinion it is not worth it. I think it is very popular with the young local Shang hai kids cause of the french style building and decor and they overlook the bad quality and price of the food.More

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Shanghai. For European standard it is very big and noisy like all good Chinese restaurants. I visit with local friends and we had one of the best meals in Shanghai. The food is great and served with professionalism...and kind staff.More

The bios is a native Shanghai ESR, and she rates it. What more do you need to know? I thoroughly enjoyed the food. Good quality, reasonably priced and delicious. The portions are huge by western standards, so beware when ordering. Not a problem if you...are like the locals who take away the excess in doggy bags! The place is huge in a sort of art deco style. And at peak time stuffed to the gunnels with noisy locals. A wonderful break from the trendy modern eateries do common now in the area!More

Excellent Shanghainese food with very reasonable price! The restaurant is not very close to the train station though, but the value of the food totally worth the effort.

Actually it was my driver who was a Shanghai native who recommended this restaurant since few years ago. Ever since then, whenever I came here, I always visited this restaurant first. I recommend Shengjianbao and shanghai vegetables as one of my top list. For tea,...try the Xihu tea.More

I visited this restaurant many times years ago. But even until now, if I were to recommend any restaurant in Shanghai, this will definitely be in the list! The food is actually relatively cheap, considering that it is by now a well known restaurant in...Shanghai, operated for many years already and has multiple awards. (I didn't read it in detail but you can the list of some of their achievements at the shop). It is always with queue, despite that there many many tables and multiple floors. However, the queue is never too long as the chef and dishes turnover are very efficient. It is in a old building, thus the ambiance is not too bad with local chinese old day feel. It is overall considered as clean, and the services are fast. You won't feel like you are left out with nobody to entertain your need. I would recommend you try as many as their signature dishes as you can, especially if you are going in a big gang. The fry brinjal in wrap is a superb. it is tasty, strong thick taste and the wrap lighten up the dish. The fry 'you tiao' with sweet sauce is a good food for kids too. Just ask for recommendation of food and you will not regret on whatever dish you ordered.More

Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly
governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French
Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that
is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While
it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will
sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their
mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area
seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet,
