Had dinner in this restaurant today. The food was very traditional but really good. No English though so I was happy that my friend spoke Mandarin. This restaurant is quite traditional but somewhat cleaner than what I am used to. The service is not quick and you have to call the wait staff but the food comes quickly and the... More

We found this restaurant via tripadvisor. It was a 5min walk from our hotel. You will find this restaurant on the 5th floor. There was a waitress at the lifts on the ground floor to greet us. There was also another man, trying to promote another restaurant. So, be careful. When we got to the 5th floor, there was another... More

As this restaurant was in the same block as my hotel (Grand Central) it was easy to walk the one block, so I ate here two nights in a row. Note that the restaurant is located in a 5-story building. Enter at the given address and go up the escalators to the FIFTH floor. While you will see the name... More

We had this place on our to do list from lonely planet but also suggested by a Singaporean friend who lived in Shanghai for a while. We didn't know what to expect to be honest. But then what a great surprise! We were the only foreigners in the restaurant, it was only spoken Chinese and the whole menu was in... More

100 meters from East Nanjing abroad station. Occupies 4th and 5th floor. Go to the 5th. Tables for 4 in cubicles. A huge variety of dishes mainly Sichuan cuisine hence spicy but also sweet and sour as well as other non-spicy dishes. The quality of the food is excellent. Worth a try

Really enjoyed this place. Well worth going to - very nice looking restaurant with little booths for each party. The food was excellent and spicy and not too expensive at all. Staff good - though little English (but don't worry we had no problems).

Just dont do it. Never saw food that weird and bad before. I tried plenty of chinese food before. This is plain bad. I had a bowl of seafood (expensive too), my girlfriend had spicy bullfrog. Both dishes tasted like a boiled plastic bag.

First of all, it can be a little tricky to find. Don't listen to the people near the elevator. Both times we had someone trying to lure us to another restaurant on a different floor. The restaurant itself is very big and foreigner-friendly, although don't expect the waiters to speak English. Fortunately for those who can't speak Chinese, the massive... More

There are four branches of this restaurant in Shanghai, we visited the one near People’s Square. This massive restaurant has a huge picture menu in both Chinese and English. Definitely order each of the four types of noodles, as each is different and cheap. Do not miss the Sichuan style fish, beef and pork dishes. A huge meal here won’t... More

I had lunch here and very much enjoyed it. I'm still in Shanghai and may go back. The smoked duck was excellent. Service was good, but it is cash only. The menu with wonderful photography and English translations was very much appreciated by me.

Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
