Yes, it is a restaurant, but it is mainly a bakery. We love the Besenlaib, a round big German style bread. The food is good as well, there is BBQ from time to time. The places inside have been incresed over the years, we always try sitting outside, enjoy food and beer and watch people on Lao Wei Jie

I have been a fairly regular customer a Bastians. To be honest I think their food is generally good. However, I do not care to be treated like a thief and our last meal there was our last. 3 of us ordered meals which allowed trips to the salad bar. We all made one trip only. At the end of... More

Prices are reasonable for Shanghai. I highly recommend the ribs. Fall of the bone deliciousness. Eat dinner and stop off at the bakery after. All baked goods priced 2 for 1 after 8 pm.

Along the busy Foreigners Walking Street on Hongmei Lu this is the place to come to pick up your bakeries which are made fresh everyday by the European owner. The cafe side has been expanding over the last couple of years and is probably the best place to pick up a hamburger on the street. In summer during nighttime they... More

With Shanghai being noisy and crowded, Baastian was a great place to hide away to enjoy a little quietness and good food. Enjoyed my grilled cheese and bacon sandwich... With the right amount of sliced cheese and crispy bacon to add-on to the salt level. Wash it down with excellent illy coffee. Restaurant decor are predominantly wood with lots of... More

A friend and I had breakfast here. We found it simply by walking past, it looked good. She had a pancake with sliced banana on it, with powdered sugar topping, which was surprisingly good.. I had an open face omelet which was excellent. Service was good, the place was clean and tidy. When I get back to Shanghai I'll visit... More

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighborhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
