As there was a queue to get in, I took that as a good sign. Our guide (Cindy) told us there would be about a 30 minute wait, but as we had already had a bit of a hectic morning, did not mind the wait....When we got to our table, we were given a menu and the items were explained to us. As I had already eaten a rather large buffet breakfast in the hotel, decided to opt for a nice, light option. Hot and Sour soup has long been a favourite of mine, and this one did not let me down. Hot, sour, spicy and very warming. Would happily return for another bowl (or two).More

My comparison was to Din tai fung, which may be a little bit different. However, the Xiao Long Bao and the other dishes are worth trying.

The buns, which are their specialty, are good; however, you can find buns with better or similar quality, more authentic, in others restaurants that are less expensive. Service was ok - nothing to compliant about, but nothing to be impressed by either.

We stopped here for lunch before visiting the Yu Garden. We sat upstairs and ordered a variety of items off the menu, all of which were very tasty. The soup dumplings, or steamed buns, were definitely the highlight. Apparently this place has been serving them...for over 100 years. Wasn’t cheap, but we enjoyed our stop here very much.More

Famous for their soup dumplings for a reason! They do have seating upstairs, but if you want to enjoy this hot tasty treat and get back to sightseeing, it's a great place to stop in and pick up dumplings to eat at the standing bar...on the first floor. Take a small bite, and then sip your dumpling before nomming. They're hot and FRESH! The brown liquid that is in a lemonade dispenser is vinegar, and is the perfect thing to drizzle in or on these dumplings to awaken your tastebuds to the next level.More

These were the best steamed buns I had in all of China. Only wish I had friends with me so I could have ordered more different items to taste. Service was great, and menu had an English translation and pictures which made it easy to...order. Convenient location in the historic area near You Gardens.More

The system is efficient and effective. Scan the QR code on the table, place your order online and pay online as well. There is a variety of steamed buns including vegetarian options. Service is fast and fuss free. Place decor is very simple and not...much of an ambiance.More

Even though it is a tourist area the food is excellent. Worth a visit if you want to try traditional Shanghainese food.

Located inside probably the only historical area of Shanghai (YU Garden) this is a very good restaurant where you can eat great dumplings in Shanghai. Some waiting but very well organized queue and fast assignment of table. It deserves a meal while in Shanghai. Dumplings...are at same level if not better than those you can eat at the Din Tai Fung.More
