The dumplings here melt in your mouth!! The place doesn't look like much, but the food sure is good. You get to added bonus of watching them prepare the dumplings behind the counter which is entertainment in and of itself. Go here, get and order of their steamed dumplings, and then walk across the street to Yang's and get an... More

We know this Shanghai Famous dish since we visit area 10 years ago, but we had never noticed this small unique restaurant with Delicious Steam bread all kind. The filling just melt in your mouse and the bread is so tender.... A must have when you visit shanghai. Just must

Seriously, we ate all three meals here one day. Amazing soup dumplings and the kind of local dive that makes you feel legit.

I visit Jia Jia Tang Bao with 2 friends, pass lunch hour, so, as many had previously mentioned, the pork only filled steamed dumpling had run out. We ordered two servings of the pork & crab meat filling. They were absolutely delicious. The filling was very flavorful and accompanied with the succulent broth in the dumpling, the bao was heavenly.... More

The dumplings at Jia Jia are the best I had so far in China and elsewhere. Unfortunately, others think so, too. As a result, you might have to wait in a long queue. I had the crab and meat dumplings for 30 rmb as well as the crab dumplings for 99 rmb. Both are very good. Crab alone is a... More

Visited with my wife on a Sunday around 12pm. On arrival, the small casual eatery was very busy but we ordered two steamers of crab and prawn soup dumplings (these were the only two options left on the menu) with ginger dipping sauce and a Coca Cola each. We waited for a seat and then went to sit down. Little... More

Headed here around 11am and the line wasn't too bad, we waited for about 30 min. When you get to the front you order and pay first and then get seated. Ordering was easy enough, there is a basic english menu. Be sure to get the house vinegar with ginger, it is very nice. We got the crab and pork... More

They were out of straight pork by the time I visited around 6.30 in the evening. As a solo diner with no Chinese ordering was simple enough with their one tattered English menu, although they somehow mistook my second dumpling option for soup. Oh well! I got a seat straight away too, but sharing with someone. Don't be surprised by... More

This place was recommended by friends and it was right across Yang's Fried Dumplings, another popular chain store on Huanghe Lu. This shop has the simpliest menu as it only sells Tang Bao which is steamed dumpling with a few selection of fillings, notably minced pork with crab meat or crab meat with crab cream, the latter being most expensive.... This was a great experience. You sit at tables of six people with others you do not know. The menu is limited which is perfect. We ordered a mixed crab & pork dumpling and a straight crab dumpling. The mixed was 30 RMB & the crab was $99 RMB. Chicken was sold out. For me the mixed was tastier than... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
