Ok. We were referred here by a local who loves this place and frequents. We are from out of town. The food was good. Highly recommend the cauliflower appetizer. Delish! My hubby and I split the pork entree, which they kindly split between us with...generous portions and it was good, although the pork was a tad bland. Sides were great.
The cocktails were less than to be desired, however. They only have a wine list for a reason. We had an Old Fashioned that lacked luster and a fruity vodka cocktail (bar keep’s choice) and it was light but not the best ever. Basically orange and with some vodka. Overall, we liked the ambiance and food. Just make sure you want wine and not a cocktail!More
Visiting at 5:30 on a weeknight, we understandably arrived at the restaurant when it was still fairly empty - Nonetheless, we were squeezed into a table where I had to slide the table away from it's placement to allow my wife to be seated. The...tempura cauliflower was terrific, so we anticipated a similarly impressive group of entrees. Unfortunately, the chicken and pasta dishes were unimpressive. Service was good, which would be expected considering the few number of other customers (many more people showed up as we were leaving). Pricing would have been reasonable for a higher-end restaurant - We did not feel that the value was there. Overall worth a try, but likely won't be returning soon.More
I came here with about 20 colleagues for dinner on a Wednesday. The restaurant is upscale and diners were elegantly attired. The atmosphere is chic and we had a set menu from which we could choose certain options. Appetizers were pre-ordered for us and I...was dismayed that there was nothing I could eat. I told the server about my allergy and he offered an apology that the menu was set so I could remove some things from my dish if I did not like something. He said he would see if the chef could remove some items from my plate and give me something else instead. However, when the dishes came out, they all looked the same and I had to push some things aside in my plate. The salad and creme brulee, however, were very good and truly gluten free.More
The food was good here but unfortunately we had a problem with the service. The waiter kept disappearing and ultimately made us late for the concert we were attending after dinner. We had arrived in plenty of time and that shouldn't have happened. The other...major issue we had was that we said upfront that it was to be individual bills bc everyone did not know everyone. The waiter brought 1 bill and said we would be doing him a huge favor if we just split it and it was only $5-10 difference in each bill. Because we were late and it was supposed to be close in price we agreed. We found out later after looking at the bills that he had incorrectly charged the wrong items to the wrong people so the bills were in fact not close in price. I called management hoping to get a refund of the overpayment because the largest discrepancy was on my bill and they were very rude and did not care to help. In fact, even went so far as to say the other guests owed me the money. I pleaded that it was no one's fault other than of the waiter and we had already been inconvenienced enough missing the beginning of the concert. I was shocked they were not willing to make this error on their part right. For the prices of the food, you would think they would care more about their customers. Needless to say (although the food was good) we will not be back. So unfortunate.More
The ambiance of DG is classy and feels like home. The staff greeted us and were so accommodating. Clay made excellent suggestions and was helpful, providing impeccable service!! All of the staff was great and we look forward to next time!!
about the same from previous review-- not much different-- and that may need to change some-- from the same indoor décor that is getting old to the staple menu items that largely stay same ole.--not bad mind you- just stuck in the middle--service is always...good--maybe some tweaking needed to update-- just saying....More
This has been one of our long time favorites. Birmingham has had so many great new places open up in recent years. So much so, that Daniel George has become less familiar now. I feel like this is becoming one of our little secret places....We have never had a bad experience here. The food is always fresh. The service is great. This last time we had the cheese plate, beef tenderloin, and lamb. We will continue to go back. Love it.More
