Nice little small restaurant with a lot of potential. The menu is huge and has a lot of options. The restaurant, as far as seating has inside and outside options. When I say "Tacos Ă la carte" is because you can order a few of them that way. There are a lot of combos and things but I always prefer to get them individually. So this is your standard fare restaurant and you can expect to get, just about anything you would expect from a place like this. They have their salsa, self-serve, options, and standard fountain drinks but I was also surprised to see juices offered and bottled authentic stuff too.
Flavour was not the standard I am used to. It could have been due to take-out that we got and not having the options to get more standardly served things but I wasn't that pleased with the items; in general at least. The food was just standard. I may go back and get it again but it wasn't what I would expect from a place that looked and offered what it did. Just my statements and probably should not be taken that heavily weighted. I just have experience internationally with this kind of food but this is Montgomery with their locally sourced ingredients.

The first thing to say is that they have quite a lot of varieties of meat for tacos, if that is what you choose to go for. They sell for $2 a taco, or there are other different meals you can eat. I ordered 2 tacos at first. When they came out I was shocked at how small they were. The tacos here fit in the palm of your hand. I had to order a couple more to make the meal more than a snack. The pulled pork is the best of the options I tried. They have a small fix in bar as well, since the tacos are just a soft shell and the meat. Nothing else. Definitely not a full meal.
The staff is super friendly however. I would go as far as to say maybe the friendliest in Montgomery.
Overall, I wasn't impressed with the taste nor the size of the meal. I don't think I would return.

This place was labeled "the best tacos in Montgomery" on Google so my husband and I decided to try them. They were pretty mediocre in my opinion.. Slightly overpriced. My husband was more impressed than myself.

Went here on the recommendation of our son, who had experienced some of the food at catered events. Ordering at the counter and finding a table were both easy. The music was very loud so it was difficult to have a conversation at the table, but that can be adjusted.
The food was a major disappointment. I had chicken and beef flautas. Both were flavorless. Apparently overcooked and unseasoned. My wife had a half of one of her tamales and left the rest. She said it was inedible. The rice and beans came on a separate plate, but they were bland as well. The beers were good and cold. Service was prompt, but not attentive. They staff delivered the food and came back to pick it up. No one checked to see if we enjoyed the meal. I guess there is a salsa bar or something like that to put on your food, but the food should have been more flavorful as served.
We did miss the horchata dispenser, which are son found and enjoyed.
I do not give many reviews below 4 stars, but I cannot justify more than two for El Taco. As much as I would love to give a family owned restaurant a higher rating, there is a lot of work to do here so the food has flavor and the diner can give some feedback immediately rather than on Trip Advisor.

The female has employees licking cheese dip from their fingers while fixing food. Employee can’t hear while taking orders so they left an item off my order then came harassing me about paying for it. So we gave her both of the items back and asked for our money and she said no refund and slams one of the items back down on the table.

The girl the took our order had a beautiful smile on her face friendly and helpful.
They have a beautiful salsa bar different varieties of red and green salsas.
The tacos were absolutely delicious. For a moment I was back home in California.

I expected nachos with chorizo to have, oh, I don’t know, cheese and chorizo? But not here it seems. Chips, lettuce, tomatoes and a tube of Daisy sour cream.

They always welcome our loud Tuesday night group with smiles and great food! We usually sit outside and often stay way past closing and they are so nice about telling us stay as long as you want. The food is always great and consistent which i appreciate.

Family owned and operated. The owner walked out and saw my husbands street corn looked too over cooked for his liking and brought him out a fresh one. The only Mexican restaurant in Montgomery my child likes the steak at. Many cerveza choices. They can quickly overcrowd with the few tables they have. A+

Excellent Cali-Mexican food. It is like being in California. Wonder assortment of meats for your burritos and tacos. Plenty of otber dishes like sopes, tamales, etc.

I know it sounds weird but when I tasted the food it instantly brought back memories of California. Turns out the husband and wife are from California. True Mexican food has finally arrived in Montgomery, AL!!

Saw good reviews so we tried it out. Ala carte tacos or combos with plenty of selections. Had three tacos and steak nachos. The food was really good and authentic. A buddy had the Mexican street corn and he said it was outstanding. Priced in the moderate area. Mine was $19 for the tacos, nachos and drink. Definitely returning.
