Laksa is still as delicious as always. Due to RMCO, many patrons were waiting to be seated. We went back to try their calanthe rice with chicken berempah, delicious but we were not being served with the yellow rice as shown in the menu but...gotten white rice instead. Anyhow the anchovies sambal goes well with the rice. And the sambal is just at the right kick. Since we were seated right next to the check in counter. We noticed staff didnt attend to those who were queuing and waiting to be served. And instead some customers just walked in to the cashier without scanning and staff actually allowed them to be seated. Guess this should be taken note to provide better experience for other queuing customers and also to make sure all customers complied with the sopMore

traveled during rmco, was packed and had to manage with the low chair and table. service was a bit slow barring that this place was at full capacity. Their curry noodles are the best. The interior needs a bit of sprucing.

This is the worst experience being in this cafe. Unfriendly staffs, waited 30 minutes for a table when the cafe was not busy, ordered coffee and it’s been 40 minutes and coffee was not here. Staffs were extremely ignorant. So much hype about how amazing...this coffee place is but it’s just crap. They should just close down this cafe and find another hobby.More

Malaysia has a thriving specialty coffee scene that rivals that of other well known U.S. coffee-crazy cities like Seattle and San Francisco. With the tagline ‘The First and Only One’, Calanthe is unique, serving specialty coffee drinks from all the 13 states of the country,...some Malaysian states have unique blends of coffee mixed with margarine, salt or even wheat flour. With expectations raised sky-high, I was let down by the coffee I cupped which seemed relatively subdued and muted aromatics. Calanthe is also called an “art cafe”, and therefore you can immerse in the artistic ambience, decorations and wall paintings. Food-wise the Calanthe Laksa – in-house recipe -the gravy consists of coconut milk, lemon grass, turmeric, dried prawn paste, shallots, etc. served with tofu puffs, fish balls, fried bean curd skin, portion of hard boiled egg, fishcake slices, bean sprouts and grated cucumber is nothing to write home to mother about. The merely so-so vibes don’t quite last until the very end the week. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…More

Went together with a group of friends. The foods were good and the best part was we can tried different states' coffee. Friends' feedback the coffee aroma was good and we are lucky enough to meet up with the founder of the cafe. He shared...a lots of coffee stories and also local culture stories to us! I skipped the coffee and ordered other juice, not bad with reasonable price!More

I came in here a few times for coffee and snacks. The entrance to the cafe can be a bit hidden for all the vines hanging from the roof and supports of the front porch. Were it not for customers and/or staff sitting/standing on the...porch, I’d easily walk past the cafe. Inside, the decorations have the look of an art class with paintings, beat up utensils and elements of beach and maritime theme in keeping with the history of Melaka. The menu is larger than average for a cafe, but nothing to complain about. One of the most unique items on the menu I’ve ever seen is salted egg croissant. Being a good old classic Chinese dish, I love a good salted egg. So obviously I had to try that. I also ordered a hot mocha with that. First the croissant. It came on a plate with walnuts and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I took a slice of the croissant from one of the ends. It tasted brilliant with a hint of salted egg taste and aroma. As I cut and ate more of the croissant and I realized that it was actually a filling of egg yolk of a salted egg. Possibly even more than one egg yolk given how much filling there was. Sadly, the more I ate, the more I thought that the croissant would’ve tasted much better with less of the salted egg. There is such a thing as too much salt. So that was the one and only time I’d ordered this dish. One snack that I do like here is the little pineapple tarts, a soft pastry with not too tart pineapple flavoured centre that's served warm. Every time I’ve ordered a coffee it has tasted great and beautifully presented. The ambience of the place varies with the crowd. As Melaka is a very touristy place, expect excited crowds. But generally, the ambience is one of a relaxed and chilled out coffee house.More

Dropped by here for lunch. The place seemed pretty cramped, but I really dig the decor! They incorporated recycled materials into their cafe decor and I thought it was really cool! Since there were 4 of us and the place was quite full at that...time, we were seated at the back where the rattan chairs were not suitable for dining...at all! However, we managed....enough said. The service was good. The food arrived pretty quickly. We were happy with the food we ordered, tasty and well presented. We ordered Ayam Pongteh with Rice, Chicken in Butter Sauce with Rice, Sago Gula Melaka and Local Brownies. Superb! The servers were also friendly and helpful, they made us feel comfortable eventhough the place was full with the lunch time crowd. We totally appreciate that. Kudos! Oh...and the cafe's location right smack in Jonker Walk was also a bonus! We will surely come again!More

Very friendly staff, good coffee and decent food. Nice place to have coffee and chat. This is hidden at one of the side street from main Jonkers Walk. Nice old colonial era house that is converted to a cafe but still maintain its original old...house charmMore
