I never could make people understand that in Louisiana, it's the food counters and delis you find in gas stations or strip mall hole in the walls that have the best food ever. The New Orleans Lunchbox here in Huntsville follows that tradition. We just love the yummy south Louisiana treats. The boiled crawfish, when in season, is the perfect taste of home. I also really like the red beans and rice platter with peppery green beans and coleslaw. My favorite dish here is Jambalaya. This guy makes the absolute best jambalaya in north alabama.

Great food in a totally unexpected location. It is a grab-and-go lunch spot, but the food is topnotch. Portions are large and well-prepared. I have done take-out and eaten on site, and the portions are identical. Counter staff are helpful and friendly. Be sure to try the crawfish boil!

Wow! We found this place online, we reluctantly went inside. We were greeted by Mary who made our experience that much better! She made wonderful suggestions. She had us try her special bread! It's worth the drive. The gumbo, jambalaya and ref beans and rice had us all sniffing our runny noses. Nice flavor. The bread pudding was delicious. My husband doesn't eat soggy bread but the subtle flavors he loved. Mary suggested ribs to go for a late night snack....we fought each other for the last one. No fat just wonderful smoked flavor no need for sauce. So glad we found this place while visiting.

Haven't been here in about 3-4 years. Went for lunch today, and ordered the brisket sandwich and cole slaw. Looking from the side, looked great. Pulled the bun off to put some sauce on, and HALF the meet was a large vein of FAT. For this, I paid $10???? He KNEW it was substandard, and served it to me anyway. I can understand it when a reasonable person can't see marbling. But when they see fat thicker than my hand, and put it down on the sandwich anyway, that's UNACCEPTABLE.

We stopped in for a take away plate and got a sampler of brisket, sausage, jambalaya, ribs and southern potato salad. Everything was pretty good but not great although the potato salad was quite good. Ribs sort of suffered in the drive home and were a shade dried out compared to what they were when actually given to us based on quick sample. Bread pudding was okay.

I came here for lunch on the recommendation of several coworkers and boy was I glad I did! It was completely off my radar while preparing for my trip to Huntsville. It is located in the Marathon gas station at the edge of the University of Alabama- Huntsville campus. Don't let the location fool you. The owner has been catering his delicious New Orleans fare for years. There is ample seating so no worries there. I had the quarter chicken plate with jambalaya and potato salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly. The jambalaya was creamy and well seasoned. The potato salad was very flavorful. One of my coworkers had a dressed sausage Po-Boy and another had the sausage plate. They both only had positive things to say about their meal. Another coworker planned to go back before they closed at 6pm to get dinner. If you are a fan of New Orleans food or have never tried New Orleans food, I highly recommend New Orleans lunchbox. You won't be disappointed!

I lived in New Orleans many years and The food here is authentic and very tasty. Unfortunately i have been a little disappointed lately. The new guy making sandwiches needs a bit of training on how to make a po boy sandwich. The crawfish etouffee i ordered did not have a single crawfish tail in it. Things seem to be going down hill lately...i love this place but someone needs to get things back on track. Geaux Saints!

We came to try the New Orleans food but ended up with spectacular BBQ. We shared a smoked platter: ribs, pork, brisket and sausage and chicken. Enough to feed an army. The sides were also fabulous - broccoli salad and coleslaw. The meat was smoked to perfection. This place is inside a gas station on the corner of Holmes and Jordan and the ambiance is pure gas station but it's a must! Our only complaint is it isn't open on Sundays!

I've eaten here twice, and both times I have been blown away by the tremendous flavor of the food. The shrimp etoufee is unbelievably good. The red beans and rice are seasoned perfectly - best I've ever had, Same goes for the gumbo. Today, I had the andouille sausage and bread pudding. It was great as well. The only thing that didn't blow me away was the jambalaya. It seemed a little dry, but maybe that's how it's supposed to be. If I lived in Huntsville, I'd eat here a lot more often!

Found this place by accident...searching online for BBQ places...and convenient to those living/working on Redstone Arsenal. The restaurant is located in a convenience store/gas station. Large smoker on wheels behind store/restaurant. Restaurant is order service at the counter. Tables/seating for inside dining or walking/call in for take out. Don't be deceived by the "location" in a convenience store/gas station. It has it's own "ambiance" and the owner/smoke master is obviously great at his BBQ and Cajun food preparation. The staff are also very knowledgeable and friendly. Open Mon-Sat 10am-6pm. N.O. Lunchbox serves different BBQ and Cajun specialties. I have concentrated on BBQ, sides and desserts. Generally eat in/take out brisket and pulled pork, but periodically also have their ribs and sausage. Also, I/we love their cole slaw and potato salad as our favorite sides. The bread pudding is especially good. We've tried both their BBQ plate lunches...BBQ with sides, texas toast, and drink; as well as bulk BBQ by the pound and potato salad, cole slaw by the quart. Occasionally, splurge on the taste and calories to have their delicious bread pudding. We hit N.O. Lunchbox several times a month. Serves lunch and dinner. Guess it would be considered fast food since the BBQ and most of the selections are available at opening....with some things being prepared as on hand stocks are used up during the day. Have dined in and got take out for business and family/friends. As for pricing, consider the pricing to be mid-range to cheap eats (relative to other BBQ places) and considering the portions/price and prime quality.

I had their fare from the food truck at UAH's senior weekend. The pulled pork and jumbalaya were AWESOME! The smell will have you drooling while you wait!

The food is fantastic. Some of the best, if not THE best, wings in town. Sides were delicious too. Would love it if they expanded to a "real" restaurant.

Visited New Orleans Lunch Box with a small group. Each of us had something different so we could share. I pleased to say that everything was outstanding from the pivot to the wings and sides. And the restaurant being in a gas station created an interesting ambiance.

Start out by saying this place is in an odd location, a gas station/quick mart. Not a location I would look for a place to eat. We went in to eat based on reviews I found on google. One review raved about the brisket so I got the plate and the sides I got were potato salad and gumbo. I was pleasantly surprised... The brisket was wonderful. Super tender with tons of flavor. I enjoyed the potato salad because it was not sweet. The gumbo...a very small portion comes as a side was very good and had a really nice spicy kick to it. It had great flavor. To sum up, it was an odd location but I definitely would return to eat here again.

For someone such as myself who loves New Orleans/Cajun cuisine, this place was a wholly unexpected find in Huntsville AL. The food is authentic New Orleans. The convenience store location is a bit unusual. It was my first time to dine in a convenience store--a new spin on casual dining. However, the food was well prepared and very good. The counter service was friendly and competent. I had the ribs with side dishes of red beans and rice, and gumbo--and all were outstanding. The bread pudding was very good. Prices were higher than I might have expected. No free refills on drinks. Seating is overlooking the intersection in booths or a few tables.
