Visited Mad Malts yesterday on a beautiful fall afternoon. Barman Mike was super friendly and let my girlfriend and I try a couple beers before making our selection. First, let me say that the Mad Malts Webpage has 10 beers listed as being on tap but when we arrived at the Tap Room they actually have 20 so the selection is very varied. I had a Blood Orange and then a D-Day IPA and liked them both and my girlfriend had a Porter which she said was fabulous. Mad Malts has a nice outdoor area with a lof of tables that are spread far apart for social distancing and privacy. We definately plan on returning soon.

Forget the building, the décor, the service and the parking. Just concentrate on the beers.
Mad Malts brews the best dark beers (stouts and porters) in the South. Big claim? Prove me wrong.

The four of us enjoyed ourselves in the Mad Malts Brewing. The beer selection is extensive. The service and atmosphere are also excellent. The cost is a bit on the high side. The overall value is very good.

Sunday afternoon foray to a previously un-visited microbrewery in Huntsville (we have a wonderful selection of those). I admit, I don’t need ambience or window dressing, when I’m solo at the local microbreweries, it’s all about the beer. So, the selection of two stouts (espresso and vanilla) and the Bayou Amber were first rate.
Not many people on a Sunday afternoon but it was getting close to dinner time. It looked like most of the people knew each other and yet I wasn’t uncomfortable as an outsider.
I read the review about Mad Malts not being what the reviewer expected and just think she was expecting ambience and window dressing. That is not their forte. Beer, that’s what Mad Malts is about. Try it for yourself. I think you’ll agree.

Anyone familiar with the North Alabama craft beer scene can remember less than 10 years ago there was a dearth of brew places. That changed due to the good works of Free the Hops & a change in Alabama beer laws. Now Huntsville is literally afloat in choices.
This review is not to knock the bigger places like the two at Campus 805. Yellowhammer makes FANTASTIC beer, and STA does well too.
I love the underdog- the little guys slugging it out to get to the top. And if the little guy is doing a good job of it, then I love to support him.
Mad Malts (Formally The Brew Stooges- but that's another story for the owners to tell you) is making damn fine beer, served with a smile, and you can't help but love the atmosphere if you are into breweries, because you are sitting IN the brewery.
OK- not the place for taking your sweetie out for Valentines Day, but it is perfect for the other 364 days.
Don't let the sketchy looking location worry you either.
So if you are into fancy clubs, or fine dining- MM may not be for you. If you like great beer, and a cool vibe, come to Mad Malts.
Oh, and on Thursday all pints are $4.00!!!

My favorite brewery in HSV. Located in a old mechanics shop, these guys are serious about their beer. Very fun especially when bands play. Feels like you are visiting a friends garage.

We loved it! All of the beers were tasty. We did a couple of flights and then got a glass of our favorite. The Vanilla Porter I had was delicious, and my husband really liked the yam ale with a spiced brown sugar rim.
I can honestly say that out of all the beers we tried in our flights, I don't think there was 1 that we didn't like, which is rare to find.
The backyard area was charming, as was the eclectic feel inside. I really liked the overall vibe.
It is dog friendly outside.
When we come back to Huntsville, this is top of our to do list!

Decided to spend a Sunday hopping around til we could find a place to settle with maybe some music or an outdoor patio. This brewery is located off of Meridian Street near Oakwood Avenue. I was confused when we pulled up because I thought I was at an auto mechanic shop. Ok...so I thought I will go with it. Walked inside and I first noticed a child playing with toys. Gonna be honest here...we had just left Yellowhammer and the reason why was there was an Easter egg hunt that day and kids were everywhere and even running around barefoot. Wasn't in the mood to drink my beer and be around lots of kids so we moved on to this place. So when I saw another kid I was like just go with it. They were hosting a painting class too. I'm guessing this place is fairly new. There is no decor or semblance of any. It's mix and match and not in the most eclectic way. I honestly felt like I was having a beer in a garage holding a yard sale. There's a small bar area with the drafts. We were offered samples but didn't quite feel like the person serving us was happy about it. Finally settled on a raspberry blonde for about $5. It was ok. Looked thru the plastic at the garage door I was sitting at and saw a random picnic table just in the grass. I've seen fb posts on this place and know they have music. Don't have a clue as to where a band or musician would actually play. This could be a cool place to hang out if they took a little
Time and cleaned up the place a bit. And if u are gonna have mix and match stuff for your guests, get a theme or similar stuff. I just couldn't get over the flea market/yard sale vibe. I don't know if I will go back, trying to be fair but let's be honest, hard to call this a bar/pub when u put your guests in a garage that u leave looking like a storage unit. Also if you're gonna serve popcorn out of a popcorn machine, how about making fresh popcorn instead of opening a bag of half stale premade stuff. You are missing the boat. I don't have to have all fancy and proper but atleast make me feel good about spending $5 a beer. I could've done this at home with a 6-pack for almost the same money.
