The entrees were average for the most part but the hot and sour soup was nothing but sour. So much vinegar it dries your mouth. Plus it was served lukewarm and not spicy at all. The egg rolls even tasted as though the cabbage had...been soaked in vinegar. Beyond that, there is the issue of the entrance. When you first walk it you walk into a flea market of no-name knock off brand products stacked high. I thought we were in the wrong place for a minute until someone showed up to take us to the dining area. The people are friendly but I can't say I'd go back.More

We don't live or work in this area anymore so we haven't been to the Mandarin House for several years. We ate there last week and will definitely make it a regular destination for lunch or dinner again. The service was fast and very friendly...and the food was great! We had Kung Pao Beef and General Tso Chicken and highly recommend both. The egg roll was okay and not very different from most. The hot and sour soup was excellent, actually hot and sour soup, as opposed to what passes as that dish elsewhere. The prices were reasonable and we both had plenty left for "to go" boxes.More

It has been many years since I have eaten at the Mandarin House and thought it would be a treat for myself and a friend. Boy, was I wrong! We came in about 1:00, a little late for lunch but the tables had not been...cleaned off since the rush I guess. We had to walk past 8-10 tables to find one clean. Our waitress could barely speak English and was very slow. We tried to ask a question and with the language barrier it was never answered. The food was ok but I will not be going back. I had to use the restroom when we finished and it was deplorable. When I left some of those same tables were still not cleaned.More

Pretty big dining facility. Large portions and food comes out piping hot. Service was pretty good. Decent prices.

I used to eat at this place when I was a teenager. I recently moved back after being gone about 30 years and wanted to try an old favorite. The service was excellent. Mandarin House still has good Chinese food for the money. The cashew...chicken and egg roll were delicious!More

We've lived in the area for 15+ years and had never tried this place. Since we're trying to break out of our "restaurant rut", we decided to try it. We loved it! Our 10 year old loved the Asian decor which was more than our...normal go-to place. The food was great! We ordered Sesame Chicken and Beef Lo-Mein, both with friend rice. We had plenty of left-overs to take home. We loved the little donuts that they brought at the end of the meal. We'll definitely be back!More

Amazing food. Good prices. Servers don't speak good English and the place is a bit drafty. But again the food was good.

This is my restaurant of choice when it comes to Chinese food. It's just down the road from me, and the combination fried rice is delicious (and is enough for two, three people easily). They have a lot of "unique" dishes compared to other Chinese...restaurants in the area. the Tien Tien Beef is particularly good, though they put a lot of veggies in it and not that much beef. Their Hot and Sour Soup is... interesting. It's not like a sweet/sour sauce that you'd expect, but almost like the sour from fermented veggies. It's very filling, though, so maybe only get that if you intend to share. All their soup is made to order (and serves two people), too, so it's nice and hot when you get it. My preferred entrees are, in order, the Seafood Sizzling Rice (a delicious medely of shrimp, scallops, and crab over "sizzling" rice, which seems to be just puffed rice), Sesame Chicken, and Tien Tien Beef. The Sesame Chicken is good, plump chunks of chicken, not little crumbs of crust with something like chicken skin in the middle. As I said before, the Tien Tien Beef is delicious, but a bit too much veg in it for my taste. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in Hoover looking for good Chinese.More

Don't miss the Mandarin House - it's been in business over 25 years and is open on Christmas Day! Change your traditions and Have some Chinese food for Christmas! You will not be disappointed here -HUGE portions, lunch prices, so many choices, and the best...hot and sour soup ever. I personally love anything "spicy" here as well as sesame chicken. My hubby orders Shrimp and lobster sauce and Hunan beef for his faves. Definitely worth the drive!More
