Some friends were treating us to our choice of dinner. I chose Wintzell's, because I really wanted seafood. We arrived around 5:30pm on Saturday night and were immediately seated. We ordered an appetizer of shrimp cocktail and they were very good. I ordered the broiled seafood platter and it was average. My wife ordered the Cajun pasta and said it... More

Maybe the best gumbo I have eaten anywhere. I also like the red beans and rice. Can't go wrong here.

This is a must try! We went a few times that week and everything we ordered was great. If you're an oyster lover you have to try the sampler! The bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops are great as well. Definitely will not be let down. The staff are very friendly and the service is on point..

We wanted to find a place with good fried catfish. After reading reviews, we decided on this one, since it was 2pm and Top of the River was not open. The waiter, a tall dark haired young man, was most delightful and attentive and courteous. We had the fried catfish, cheese grits and coleslaw and salad, hushpuppies. Catfish-cooked just right,... Menu and decor are consistent with the rest of this chain...oysters offered multiple ways being the feature. I usually order the crab salad, which is tasty. During the time you wait for your food you can read all the punny signs on the walls. Service is always friendly. What's different about this particular Wintzells is that it is directly on... More

Other than countless signs full of conventional wisdom and great service, this place has a privileged position right by Lake Guntersville and steps away from the Hampton Inn. Selection on tap is GREAT, service is good, and the food is pretty good too. Definitely recommended if you're in the area. Try the fried green tomatoes and the surf and turf!... More

Have eaten here many times and the food is consistently excellent with attentive service. The raw oysters are always fresh. I have indoctrinated several of my friends and family with their first raw oyster at this restaurant. The boiled shrimp are a great appetizer option if you want to skip the raw oysters. They are perfectly cooked with a firm... More

I went after a local recommended it to me and it did not disappoint! I had gumbo, low country boil, and the cobbler of the day. I eat seafood all the time and this was a meal that delivered! My waitress was kind and the food didn't take forever.

I have been to Wintzell's a few times but just can't seem to like it as much as everyone else. The food is good but not what everyone raves about and really pricey. The oysters were good but gritty. The best part of the dining experience is sitting on the balcony overlooking the lake, really nice. The service was really... More

Located right on the lake just below the Hampton Inn, you will find world famous Wintzell's Oyster House. Open every day of the week with friendly service and reasonable prices. The seafood gumbo is just as good as the gumbo in New Orleans complete with oysters and a rich dark roux. Relax and enjoy the view of the lake and... More
