We stopped for a quick lunch. We both had sandwiches. Although it was good, I didn't think it was anything special. I prefer a warm sandwich and the wrap was cold. I liked the cranberry salad as a different side to chips. If I went...back I would try the meat and veggie sides. It seemed like more food that I was hungry for at the time.More

We were staying in Greenville near RTJ golf trail. We decided on a whim to pick up turkey dinners and take them back to our hotel. I had no idea what to expect... kind of a homespun family place. We both had Turkey breast dinners...with dressing, gravy, smoky green beans and mashed potatoes with corn muffins. We both thought it was fabulous. Better than moms! (Sorry about the lack of a photo… But we dived in the minute we open the curtainsMore

We had never heard of this restaurant but thought we would patronize a local restaurant on our way from Destin to Atlanta. Great decision! Lots of good fresh food at a good price, and packaged food to go. Friendly staff. It was a perfect break...in our travels.More

Ate lunch here today although everything about the appearance of the outside of the building told us not to. This place has apparently been in business for 50 years and that is the last time it had anything at all done to it. Outside and...inside are old and dated. The name of the restaurant would indicate that turkey is their specialty and that it must be done really well. Wrong. I’ll guess the recipe here: Take any old turkey, throw it in an oven with absolutely no seasoning until done. Slice and refrigerate for a day or five then sell it to the unsuspecting public. Literally zero flavor. Green beans are straight from the can and needed salt. Rolls and cornbread appear to be an afterthought and surely must be prepackaged. I hate to sound harsh but the entire experience was just pathetic. I honestly don’t know where all of these good reviews are coming from. Possibly tastebud-less folks out there? Sorry. Not sorry. It really was just terrible. One star is being generous.More

Our family stopped off for lunch. I was already not impressed by the outside of the building, it needs much upkeep and cleaning. The inside was even worse. The majority was against me, so we ordered. The menu looked very unappealing. Most of us ordered...the signature turkey dinner. The turkey came out cold, it tasted old and not cooked in-house. The green beans had no seasoning. The hash brown casserole was swimming in butter. The cornbread dressing was also very bland. The corn bread could choke you. The inside of the “restaurant” was not clean. I didn’t like touching the chairs or table. This place should completely renovate and revamp their menu. Or close. The staff was fine, not super friendly but not rude. I honestly cannot fathom how this place has such good reviews. If you’re reading this, and going for the first time.. turn back. Anything will be better.More

Both of us ordered Turkey, dressing & gravy. Cranberry sauce on the side with great butter beans. This place does Turkey right. It is so much better than fast food.

Stopped in on a Friday for lunch. This place has been here a long time, but this was my first visit. I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich(with 2 pieces of a pickle and a bag of chips), tea, and a piece of peanutbutter/chocolate pie. The...total came to $12.31. The sandwich was small, but OK tasting. The pie was OK also, but nothing to call your mama about. Sorry folks, but the value is not there for a return visit.More

I’ve been stopping at Bates for probably 20+ years on the way back and forth to mobile or the beach. It’s always good! Our favorites lately have been the side order of dressing with gravy and cranberry sauce (this is a meal for me) and...my sons love to split a turkey club with cheese (they are 9 years old). We got the same thing to and from vacay! It was the highlight of our ride.More

I was traveling on I65 when I spotted the first "Bates House of Turkey" billboard. I was intrigued, so I exited the interstate in Greenville and saw the restaurant right off the exit. Due to Covid-19, they were only selling "to go" orders, but the...ladies working were very friendly and helpful. The menu includes plenty of choices for sandwiches and dinners at very reasonable prices. I ordered the BBQ turkey sandwich. It came with a bag of fries and a couple sweet pickle slices (served separately). The sandwich came out within a few minutes and since it was such a beautiful day, I ate in their little covered pavilion around the back of the restaurant. The sandwich was so delicious, I went back and ordered a second one to take on the road with me. The two sandwiches and a large sweet tea set me back about $14. You can't get fast food from one of the national chains for that price, and the quality of the Bates' sandwich is soooooo much better! I'm not going to plan my future trips to stop at Bates, but if I'm in the area and I'm hungry, this will be on my "go to!" list!More

Excellent down home food. The decor is a little old, but that doesn't affect the food. I try to stop every time I go through the area.
