Girish Chandra Dey and Nakur Chandra Nandy started selling sandesh 172 years back in 1844. Probably the oldest existing confectionery shop in the country. Till this day they make the finest possible sandesh and their most amazing sandesh is Gulab Patta Kacha Gola. Also they make fruit flavoured sandesh. A visit to Kolkata can never be complete without tasting their... More

This sweet shop is another institution of Kolkata. But, sadly it has lost its magnificence. For the last three times that I have bought and eaten Sondesh from them, it has been horrifyingly stale. I hope they are able to overcome their lacunae and serve delicious Sondesh to the city again.

Best Gulab pati (Rose Leaf) Sandesh in Town. The shop is located in north kolkata. One has to get down @ Vivekananda Road X and walk towards Hedua.

This is an authentic Bengali Sweet shop. Various types of sweets, mainly, Sandesh, are the prime thing of this shop. I have been visiting there since my childhood. It is an amazing birth place for various types of Sandesh.

It is a must visit place in Kolkata. If u r a sweet lover you will just relish. I have never been disappointed with any of the items. As a pure North Kolkata Bangali I have gone through thousands of sweets from different shops but nothing worth comparing with Nakur. Even after having a old fashioned non-glamorous shop its just... Ask for the Nolen Gurrer kanchagolla (date jaggery syrup and cottage-cheese based preparation) very special to Bengal in winter. This item is the best one available in Kolkata, you can be assured. Other fusion varieties / innovations are the malai roll, 'black forest' sandesh (no similarity with the famed dessert) which I found worth mention. In fact, in spite of... More

"The green-grilled mishti shop at 56 Ramdulal Street is simply called Nakur, short and (very) sweet. Peering through the iron, glasses perched on his nose, Victor picks up one of their best-selling items, Jol Bhora Norom Pak, gives them a thumbs up, and gulps down the sandesh. From a two-item menu consisting of Kada Pak and Monda back in 1844, to 2010 where Chocolate Sandesh can compete for the number one spot, Nakur has come a long way." -- The Telegraph.
