We were a group of friends visiting Pondicherry for a reunion function. On our return we decided to spent a night in Chennai. We had booked at the Taj Connemara, one of India's oldest 5 star properties. TripAdvisor reviews and suggestions from friends led us to the Southern Spice. The entire team led by Mr Ashok Raju made our dinner... More

The ambience is good but the food was ordinary. However, the staff more than make up for the bland food by their hospitality. But then again, I'm not spending Rs. 1500 per head for hospitality

Short business trip to Chennai, but I just love this restaurant. Food is quite interesting and unusual. Definitely try the appams and a chicken dish. Ask for the spicy soup...rasam. It's too good ....specially for those who don't get such dishes on a regular basis. I went for a late dinner and since the restaurant was quite empty at the... More

Lovely place with awesome fluffy appams. Lovely starters & curries. They seriously need to revisit their desserts. Always been disappointed with them.

Just visited Southern Spice for lunch. It was a fixed thali and cannot say enough good things about the quality of the food here. The service, though, is another story. Initially I thought it was because they were really busy and short staffed, but then I started noticing that a few tables were waited on hand and foot, based on... More

Celebrated a colleagues birthday here ! On arrival there is a coldness from the team but as we settle down they settle down as well !!. The fish speciality of this restaurant and the curd rice are worth recommending !! A bit expensive though !!

Ambiance, service and the bill are in 5 star standard. But if you expect authenticity in the items served you are disappointed. They do not taste the typical items prepared at home traditionally. If you expect authenticity in taste you are disappointed especially for the cost you incur.
