About
We take pride in our humble beginnings. Established in 1979 with a very small number of staff the proprietor Mr. L H Jayalath named the restaurant after his initials J.L.H. Beach Restaurant. With time we matured and expanded our service by obtaining the ‘A’ grading from the Sri Lankan Tourism Development board. JLH Restaurant also have a bar that operates within the premises that has a wide selection of international and local alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Today we are a team of 17 guided by the visionary thinking of the Proprietor Mr. Jayalath De Silva himself and managed by his son Asela De Silva.

Sadly due to the pandemic Hikkaduwa is like a ghost town in what should be peak tourist season. Majority of restaurants are closed.
JLH is fortunately open. A group of 6 of us are there last night. We were so pleasantly surprised at how well they are functioning. Everything we requested from menu was available. Service was courteous and swift. We sat overlooking the beach while the children played in the sea.
The food arrived promptly and was really delicious, totally recommend the rice noodle dishes, kan kung and devilled fish.
The washrooms and general areas are immaculately clean. We had a wonderfully relaxed evening and will definitely return.

JLH is located between turtle and surf beach in Hikkaduwa. It is perfect to watch the ocean from and has great views of the sunset. You can choose to sit outside or inside, there is no restriction on smoking inside or outside. The hosts were a little slow and are more inclined to spending time with their mostly Russian clientele. I was a little upset at the way I was hurried to place an order without being allowed to have my questions about the menu answered. I ordered a fish and chips while my wife ordered a soup. The food itself was okay, but the attitude of the servers was a little upsetting.

This is our favourite restaurant in Hikkaduwa. The food is delicious, the beer always cold and the views of the sea and sunset are stunning. The hospitality is second to none and you are very well looked after. The lads working there are very friendly and attentive. The facilities are spotless too. A visit to JLH is highly recommended and you won't be disappointed!!

My Singapore Sling did not taste of alcohol. The two glasses of red wine were horrible (vinegary) so we sent them back. The two "medium rare " steaks were VERY Chewy and difficult to eat. The replacement chicken was better but still a cheap cut and chewy. And they only accept CASH.

We were so excited to be having dinner at this restaurant we hear they serve good food for good price but when we got there we were absolutely disappointed. First of all the prices that are on the website are not the same than on the menu. The real prices are 2 to 3 times higher (we calculated the prices on the menu and the prices on the website, we were supposed to pay 4050 lkr instead we paid 9500 lkr) but for good food it would be totally worth it except that the food was a total disappointment! We ordered prawns with garlic sauce and rice where the sauce was directly from the tube that you buy in the store and there was nearly any garlic flavour at all. The second dish were fried calamari that were extra chewy. The main disaster was the desert we ordered the ananas split which came looking like a scop of ice cream decorated with ananas which you could not eat because it was so hard but the pancakes with sugar and lime and ice cream were okay. Would definitely not recommend this restaurant

Visited JLH restaurant for lunch during our stay in Hikkaduwa. The restaurant is located right next to the beach.
The staff and kind and accommodating but most importantly the food is to die for fresh delicious food and large portions are served.
Excellent choices of food and beverages are available.
If you are in Hikkaduwa this restaurant is a must to visit.

During a 4 day stay in Hikkaduwa, I visited JHL restaurant 4 times! It really is a wonderful place.
Situated on the beach, you have the beautiful views of the Indian Ocean and can take short dip if you want. The restaurant is not fancy but the food and the service are impeccable.
Seafood is the main thing they serve although they do offer a lot of other dishes: traditional Sri Lankan dishes; breakfast; sandwiches etc… I tried several seafood dishes as well as a Sri Lankan curry during my visits and all were very flavourful and the seafood really is wonderfully cooked!
The staff are AMAZING! wonderfully kind, always smiling and always ready to help you out!
In addition to this, we asked a few people during our stay what the best restaurant in Hikkaduwa was and JHL came up several times!
Take it from me, this really is a great place to go for a dinner and to chill out!

Definitely our favourite restaurant during our recent trip to Hikkaduwa.we visited 3 times and during those visits we had grilled prawns, grilled calamari, prawn sizzler and fried prawns. All excellent. Service very good until it got busy and then it was a little hit and miss. Can’t fault the food though and the menu is extensive.

Lovely restaurant positioned on the sea front. We visited several times during our holiday and was addicted to the chicken curry and rice. The seafood was also very good. Everything was well presented and the portions were enormous. Definitely worth a visit.

Very good food, very good location - but very slow service. They really need to do something about this. Shouldn’t be necessary to wait half an hour to order drinks and to wait more than an hour to get our food.

Last 3 weeks we have several times our dinner at JLH restaurant.
It’s a lovely place on the beach side.Best waiters,super friendly and the food/ dinner they serve is of excellent quality.you have sight on the beach.Food and price are super.Enjoy your dinner at JLH. Rob Adank/ Netherlands
