Recommended by our driver, we went to Pod Volat for dinner and left with mixed feelings. Read on for details.
Pod Volat has a comfortable, modern feel and the we were warmly greeted upon entry. We sat upstairs on the open patio with smoking patrons...around us. Service was fast and efficient.
In a country where meat is featured in every meal, the menu was, not surprisingly, meat-heavy. The kebab plate featured six small hamburger like patties that tasted like a smoked sausage; it was beefy and savory. My dish of fried veal sausage with cheese looked like twinkies covered in mayonaisse. It was an interesting dish made less so by the intensely salty cheese (which I think is a local cuisine thing.)
The house wine, a glass of Vranac, was a poor example of the grape.
Overall: the dinner was about okay. Would I return? Maybe.More
On our first night in Podgorica, we asked the concierge where we should go. She said if you want traditional Montenegrin food, then Pod Volat is where you need to go. Walking up and seeing the stone clock tower out front, I knew I'd like...this place before I even stepped foot inside. The menu was in Serbian, so I struggled with that, but the waiter spoke very good English and pointed us in the right direction. We were having a hard time picking one thing, so he just made a custom meal of all their best stuff and brought it out in waves. Everything that touched my tongue was gold. You can NOT come to Podgorica and not eat at this restaurant.More
When I have visitors from outside of Montenegro, I take them here, a safe bet. Very good for meat and barbecue, sort of gives you a taste of the local with excellent service. My favorite, and the reason I eat here are "cevapi".
We stumbled upon a restaurant called Pod Volat. What a stroke of luck that was as the food here was fantastic - delicious and excellent value! The barbecue and Eastern European menu was extensive so our only option was to try a number of items....The restaurant was busy and quite noisy but a good atmosphere. Our waiter attempted to explain to us what the different dishes were, but even in English we were clueless. Carrying on regardless we ordered a random mixture and were pleasantly surprised - especially by the “clouded cream” and barbecued kebabs - delicious!More
It is very good atmosphere and not formal. There is also a formal part of the restorant. The owner is always there and take everything under control so I know that the meat quality is very good. I like beef choped and put on wooden...stick.More
