We visited Chookies twice for dinner both times we had very tasty meals. With a few meal options that reminded of home such as spaghetti bolognese! A lovely relaxed atmosphere here and very comfy. Very near train station so we chilled here before a long...train and felt very refreshed. Would recommend!More

Not sure why TA lists this place as closed. They were definitely open a couple weeks ago when I went. However, that doesn't mean it's a *good* place to go. So I had some time before the train, and thought I'd kick it here. The...whole premises looks inviting, and the open kitchen gives further confidence that this is a decent place. Then things went downhill. Ordered a passion fruit smoothie to mitigate the heat a little bit. It was nice and cold, but tasted more like a milkshake than a smoothie. Meh. I'm not really into milkshakes. The real problems began when a half hour went by, and still no food. All I ordered was an appetizer. Then I saw the kitchen worker let out a loud, wet sneeze. Actually, this is a common sight in Vietnam, unfortunately... or at least sound. One that I heard a lot coming from the back kitchens of many restaurants here, and hoped that my food wasn't affected. But this time I saw it, and I think that makes a difference. No denying that it was anyone other than the chef. Did he cover his mouth? Oh, of course not. He also didn't sneeze into his hand, so maybe it would be OK. But then he takes some tissue and thoroughly cleans his nostrils. Does he wash his hands afterward? Of course not. Then he proceeds to finish whatever he's doing with food. Well at that point, I called the waitress over. Health standards are different here, and not wanting to get into all that, I used the first excuse -time -to see if I could just cancel my food order, pay for my drink and leave. At that point she said, oh your food is coming right out in a couple of minutes. And there it was. It was my dish he was preparing while the whole sneeze thing went down. With the waitress there, and out of excuses, I thought I'd take a bite or two. It actually tasted a bit off to me. So at that point I'm thinking, you know... I can embarrass myself, pay the $5 or so this meal cost, and leave the uneaten meal and let them think I'm rude. Or I could eat and then spend the night on the train worrying about just what variety of disease I'll come down with. Not worth the risk. I'll never see these people again. I took the first option.More

Terrible pizza! Don't order it. The hamburger wasn't good also. The prices for beers and food were relatively a little high. The atmosphere is young and nice.

We just planned for a brief stop at Chookies to use the WiFi to figure out our next plans, but we ended up staying and having a very relaxt afternoon / evening. Perfect hang out! We ordered some cake, but they ran out and offered...us a cake on the house: so lovely (and very tasty)! The pizza’s smelled great and we decided to order one: really delicious with lovely stringy cheese 😋 Such a cosy place to relax and have a few drinks and a bite (and very near to the train station if you’re looking for a nice place to wait for your night train for example) Lala arranged a taxi for us to Trang An and also helped us get a train ticket to Da Nang: she even assisted us at the train station when there was a little mix up! So incredibly friendly and helpful! Go and visit them > we would definitely go back there.More

I just had an awesome burger really generous. The buns are baked in their pizza oven, eggs are taken directly from chickens in the garden, good beef, great chill out atmosphere. Chookies hideaway is really the best food spot in Ninh Binh!

Very good pizza. Also Tofu salad was good but the pork screwers didn’t work for us (too chewy and weird tasting). Familiar comfort food and lovely atmosphere for western tourists and very helpful personnel. A lot of drinks available and interesting beers. Two cute house...cats are begging for treats (they got some).More

Our daughter visited here and said it was epic, so we arrived in Ninh Binh and tried it ourselves. We met LaLa who was the manager and she was awesome, with very good English. LaLa was training Hung, who was new and so embarrassed, but...tried really hard to talk in English. The venue is fantastic and the food really good, with lots of choice, the pizza is very good. Would recommend this place to all visitors, warm welcome, good food and fantastic location, what more do you want!More

Inside the front gate we found raised vege beds, playgrounds, bars, seating inside and out, a fireplace for a warm, comfy curl up on the sofa and blankets. Chookies has everything. Great friendly service too. Loved our pizza and chips for a hot kid-friendly meal...on a cold day. We came back the next day for some more comfort food and company and this time were treated to mulled wine on the house.More

Their hand cut chips (fries) are unbelievably good. As good as the chips back home at the fish and chip shops. Don’t normally leave reviews but doing it for this. Good quality pizzas too. Highly recommend if you need a change from Vietnamese food.

We were going to eat here but I really don't think they can justify their prices! We walked around the corner and found a lovely vegan restaurant with a delicious vegan burger for half the price!

Do apologize for that. Actually the restaurant is based on local business and by family business. So that somehow owner could have family reason caused closing time changed but it is not usual.
