We often stop here when visiting family in the area and it's always fantastic. The huge river prawns are the specialty - they are a sought after delicacy, reasonably priced by local standards and always perfectly cooked, but definitely the top end of their menu....If ordering these, make sure you understand the pricing per kg, as the largest monsters will be over 1/2 kg each. The rest of the menu is also superb, and actually better value if you're watching the budget. Smaller prawns, a really interesting selection of different river fish - can be ordered fried, steamed, or in various Thai curries. The Hor Mok steamed fish curry is particularly good. Lots of spicy Thai salads and soups, of course. Lotus stems are a nice choice of vegetable. It's a lovely place to enjoy an afternoon of eating and watching the Chao Phraya river flow by, and worth the 1 hour drive from Bangkok.More

Be wary of old reviews. I’ve been here 3 times. The first two were good. The last time was abysmal (Dec 30, 2019). We drove an hour from northern Bangkok to get here. We then waited 30 min for a table. Then we found out...that they were out of the large prawns that is their specialty. It was 12:30. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. Out of a family of 8 no one was happy with the food. Avoid.More

Ruan Thai Shrimp Restaurant 6G27+68 Ratchakham, Bang Sai District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand. +66 89 887 0871 When you are in Ayutthaya, keep that address & telephone contact that I have provided, plan your lunch over at this restaurant. You will be in for...a hearty & satisfying thai food lunch. The river prawns are really fresh and big size. Most customers come here for this dish and just put the thought of cholesterol behind for this meal. Everything is just simply delicious.... everything...that we ordered, the crab meat fried rice...really aroi mak mak. Do include this dish in your order. We were only 2 persons being adventurous, making decision using our gluttony. The claypot woonsen, tomyam prawns. Dining atmosphere is relaxing, with the Chao Phraya river beside the restaurant. Clean place. Service staff here are awesome... friendly & very obliging people... I heard from other reviews that service could be slow during peak hours, I think this is a expected norm in all restaurant. You must try this restaurant ..More

Nice grilled river prawn and other local dishes (mainly fishes since it's next to the river). But as someone said, it's not worth going this far just to go to this restaurant alone. It's more suitable for the people who wants to visit Ayutthaya old...town or visit Bang-Pa-In Palace since the restaurant is on the way to the Palace (from Bangkok). You also need to plan your trip accordingly, since it closed quite early (at 18:00) compare to other restaurants. Actually you can find similar restaurants closer to Ayutthaya or Bangkok for the same type of food (i.e. grilled river prawn). Anyway, if you come by the area, you can have nice Thai food while enjoy the river view as a bonus.More

Food is average at best. The restaurant is very difficult to reach and takes good time and money. It is not worth to reach out so far for this food. However, the amobience is good. It is by the river which is pleasant and you...can feed the fish in the river while dining.More

This riverside restaurant is deservedly famous for its prawns. We went on a Sunday - the restaurant was very full and we queued for 30 minutes as we had not made a reservation. The food was worth the wait - we had delicious grilled prawns...oozing with roe, fish paste in chilli, soup, broccoli, fried fish, vermicelli , .. Ingredients were fresh and all dishes were expertly cooked. The view of river rice barges, passenger boats etc was very interesting. Although the restaurant is in Ayutthaya (outside Bangkok),the journey by expressway was only 45 minutes. The price was reasonable and service was efficient.More

Lunch by the Chao Phraya River over delicious fresh grilled prawns ( 1600 baht/ kilo) is a nice Sunday outing...Not far from Bangkok and traffic free ( except for some trucks once you get off the express way). Reservations are a must for lunch during...the weekend; also it closes quite early ... last order is around 5pm). Go for the large size grilled prawns... worth the light feel of your wallet. Very fresh and grilled to perfection. Every bite is bliss. Other recommended dishes are the fish cake, Tom yum kung, vegetables stir fried with the prawn legs , green curry prawns ( though a bit sweet), and fried fish ( we like the “pla nua ohn “ river fish). Plenty of dessert choices from ice cream ( from eté to thai coconut ice cream with three toppings = 40 baht). The only drawback is it can get pretty hot and sticky. No air con. Plenty of parking but still not enough for the crowd of food lovers. At times there are lots of tourist buses as well.More

The giant river prawns are grilled to the most delectable level. Other menus are also delicious. Don’t forget to book table and ‘river prawns’ in advance, especially on weekend. Otherwise, you won’t be able to get the big-sized of it.

We went there with 8 people for eating Grill jumbo river prawn. So we order 8 Grilled and 8 for fried prawn with salt which is good taste also. Some of us prefer fried prawn more than grilled but I like both!! We also order...many dishes like : Deep fried fish cake (Tod Mun Pla Klai), Fish Tom Yum Soup, Steamed Fish with curry paste (Ho Mok Pla Chon), etc. All food is tasty and lucky that we came here around 11.00 before lunch time (12.00) which many people are waiting for tables. I would recommend anyone who want fresh and tasty prawn, should come and try it here. I forget to tell you that this restaurant is located along Chao Phaya River, so some can enjoy river view during the meal like us!!!More
