We were recommended to Monte by an online Facebook community and I am so glad that we were.
Every interaction has been pleasant leading up to our actual visit. The pandemic made them look at possibly closing earlier for the season. She called me personally to see if we would come because we were her only reservation on the books. We politely said that we would understand if they wouldn't be open but would be thrilled if they were.
They decided to remain open.
We arrived and were shown to our seats and welcomed. Three amuse-bouche that had our tastebuds sizzling.
We chose the Red Menu with the wine pairing and sat back and were pampered with the impeccable service. We needed for nothing and did not feel interrupted all at the same time.
This is a true Michelin star restaurant.
The flavors kept amazing us and the experience was well worth the wait.
This restaurant is not a type that we go to on a regular basis in the States, but it was we worth setting the budget aside for it. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The chef is an artist. So delicious.

Great restaurant in the Old town with 3 types of Menu (meat, fish and vegetarian) with an option of a children Menu (meat or fish and ice cream). The food and service are excellent and this is probably the only restaurant in Rovinj which give possibility for a vegetarian to have a delicious and creative dinner. All waiters and a Sommelier were very kind and professional, the food was exceptional (also for children!) and also an important point, this one of the few restaurants in Rovinj which keeps the measures (masks, gloves, distance ). It is not cheap but the quality is exceptional and it could be worthy even with a higher price.

We selected the Blue menu as our preference went out to the seafood courses. The presentation of the different courses and the service by the different waiters/waitresses were top-notch as expected from a Michelin-starred restaurant. The sommelier who introduced us to various Istrian wines shared his vast knowledge of the wines in a very pleasant way. The location and interior design of the restaurant are very pleasant right in the middle of the old town. While the whole experience was top notch, it certainly came at a price that is clearly above the level of most one Michelin star restaurants. A small letdown was the green tea served at the end of the meal which was an ordinary commercial brand (Twinings) while there are so many quality tea brands that would justify the price charged.

The food was of a consistently high standard with first rate presentation but it is very expensive and I felt the service let them down. Yes the meal took over 3 hours but it was more that the some of the servers felt as though they were going through the motions (e.g. bread not brought without being asked).
The amuse bouche (apart from the slow cooked egg in mushrooms (which was first class) were a bit bland.

We visited Monte for dinner as a treat during a recent holiday in Rovinj and it was well worth the trip. Towards the top of the hill near the church of St Eufemija, you can catch a beautiful sunset before you eat, so time your booking accordingly if possible. As for the restaurant, in the middle of a pandemic it was great to see it almost full, I think there might have been on table not booked. But even so you don't feel cramped or uncomfortable, the layout of the tables provides you with enough physical distance. And all the staff are wearing clear visors, so you're safe but they can still communicate well. Don't let COVID put you off. With 3 different, 6 course tasting menus, including traditional, seafood and vegetarian, there should be something for everyone. For each you can have a full wine pairing, i.e. a different wine with every course, or choose to have just pairings with 2, 3 or 4 courses if 6 glasses might be a bit much. We had the Blue (seafood) tasting menus and it was sublime. The Omega 3's were great fun, and for anyone that like octopus however they cook it at Monte, is how it should always be cooked. The best I have ever had. As you would expect all the front of house staff friendly and efficient and were knowledgeable about the various courses. But particular mention should go to the Sommelier who has put together a wine pairing of local Istrian and broader Croatian wines that are simply magnificent. It's certainly broadened my horizons when it comes to looking for wines in the future. On every review I do on a Michelin starred restaurant I always acknowledge that it might be out of some peoples price range, but Monte is excellent value. If you love food and are in Istria then you should definitely try to book here. LOVED IT!

Our dinner experience in Monte was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent, very professional yet very personal. The sommelier wine recommendations spot on. Waiters very professional and nice at the same time. The manager or owner of the restaurant very attentive making sure we enjoy our experience... and finally the food.... 10 points out of 10! Excellent and definitely will be back .

We expected only the best, and were not disappointed. The food is to please the most demanding palates, the staff is very friendly, a young enthusiastic bunch. We followed the advise of their sommelier and got to taste rather intriguing local vines. We spent three hours enjoying our six course menu, and it felt like three minutes. All together, a lovely evening.

We have visited Monte 5 or 6 times since 2004, returning for special anniversaries and birthdays and have never failed to be amazed at the quality of food and service. We opted for the Blue taster menu with wine pairing and I can thoroughly recommend it.
Thank you once again to the whole team at Monte for making another magical memory for my wife and I.

We have been the first time in Croatia and are very surprised about the quality of food and wines. The reason to spend our holydays in Rovinj was the restaurant Monte, that's the truth. And we gave not been disappointed!
The service, hospitality and kind of presentation of the menu is at an extremely high level. And the quality and freshness of the food and the excellent choose if the accompanishing wines satisfied us completely. The recommendation by guide Michelin is absolutely right, but in our opinion Monte deserved at least two stars!
We are looking forward to our next visit, hopefully, in September.

To celebrate the end of our summer holiday in Croatia we selected restaurant Monte in Rovinj. We read that this was the first restaurant in Croatia to receive a Michelin star. We were wondering how Monte would compare to other Michelin star restaurants in Europe. Our expectations were exceeded. Hidden pearl a little bit away from the hectic sea side restaurants, a peaceful romantic place up de steps of Rovinj. They created many charming private little corners inside the restaurant, so you sit with everyone while still having a lot of privacy. The abundance of amuses took us from one surprise to another. Even in the middle of our 6-course menu there were little extras. All courses were not only a real delight for your tongue, but also delightful for the eye. With respect for old traditions the cooking is really high tech! The wine pairing with Croatian wines was also excellent! Under the guidance of the owners: Danjel and Tjitske Dekic the service staff is excellente with great knowledge and eye for detail. Monte rightfully belongs in the top of the Michelin star restaurants! Highly recommended!

After 15 days of gourmet trip in Croatia (we have been in all Michelin star restaurants and many other fine dining), I can easily say that Monte is the most mature, complete and performing restaurant in Croatia.
Has been a pleasure to see a full restaurant, under pressure, delivering a complete Michelin star experience without any visible difficulties.
Solid kitchen, young motivated and solid service team, I felt the energy of a successful restaurant.
Super the choice of 3 different taste menus, plus a la carte option, wine list up to the expectation.
Thanks to the Chef, Wife (extremely kind and always in control) and all the team for the experience.

We had amazing dinner at Monte. It was amazing in every way you could think of - food was exceptional, staff was kind, explaining everything we needed to know, sommelier was great - we were impressed by his knowledge of some rare Croatian wines. Overall, this is absolutely 10/10 experience, worth the money you will pay for it. We will come again for sure!

The meal was amazing - each dish came together with a perfect blend of tastes. The knowledge of our sommelier in pairing the wines with each course and telling us it’s history added so much to the evening for us. The wait staff is friendly and the kitchen was very accommodating to my husbands allergy to shrimp. It is an experience we will never forget.

You can tell within minutes of entering this restaurant that it is deserving of its Michelin star. The service is welcoming, warm, and very attentive to all details. But is the food that really matters and we were impressed and more amazed with each dish that arrived. We opted for the Red Menu and it was very filling. You definitely will not go home hungry. We enjoyed the blending of tastes and artistry with every one of the dishes. Everything was so good! I also have to take a moment to compliment our Sommelier, Andreas. He chose beautiful and interesting Istria wines that perfectly matched our dishes. He was very knowledgeable, with interesting information on each wines, and an overall really pleasant guy! He added to our experience. In summary, this is an exceptional restaurant to enjoy a very special meal.

The restaurant was easy to book and has very nice and welcoming staff. The interior was very stylish and provided a "special" atmosphere/feeling we were looking for.
However, we felt that the restaurant may be has slightly too many staff or could divide the staff between tables, rather than functions/dishes, as we were served by virtually every waiter in the restaurant and eventually we got a bit tired of the question about the language we speak. I could also suggest putting a little flag on/near the table to let the staff know which language to speak. Moreover, we found the mouth visors the staff were wearing was a nice idea, but at the same time made it a bit difficult to hear what they were saying.
The menu selection options were very nice and we enjoyed the wine pairing from Croatia, which let us discover many interesting wines. At the same time we felt that the restaurant kind of sets itself a very high standard and level of anticipation with it's amuse-bouches and starters, which were unfortunately slightly betrayed by the main dishes and the dessert(s).
We went for the blue menu and hence I would recommend going for one of the other options.
