Booked a few days before visiting after being to the restaurant last year and knowing how busy it can get and we were also apprehensive of the new location. we asked to be sited on the terrace outside and preferred to the edge looking over then strand. We were greeted at the entrance to the complex and show upstairs, to which we were told we were unable to sit where we had booked and we could sit inside, the door staff then proceeded to say it wasn’t her fault and the people in that location had just sat down, she then left us at the bar. Thank goodness for the waiting on staff. What an incredible meal, just as we remembered from last year, the waiting on staff were so attentive and mindful, with the food being astronomical and server with presentation in mind (served on the best China from the potteries - stoke on trent, England) we did not get a name, but we would like to thank the chefs and waiters/waitresses for a lovely meal. I’d recommend for anyone looking for a lovely evening and the highest quality of food.

Gourmet experience in Makarska

The Castellum is a great experience and 100% worth every cent you invest here. Friendly welcome at the entrance from two smart young ladies who led us upstairs. Beautiful terrace under a huge chestnut tree. Below the harbor promenade and a view of the harbor. Very friendly and professional service in excellent English. The waiter was also able to recommend local wines that went very well with the meal. Everything was very harmonious. A waiter came to each course and explained what exactly was being served. We had beef tartar and beef carpaccio - both super tasty and beautifully presented. For the main course we chose tuna steak with a sesame crust on sweet potato puree and salmon in coconut sauce and fresh spinach. Dessert was a strawberry tart with a mascarpone lid and a really great chocolate coating. The crowd was very mixed and international (USA, France, Croatia, ...). Lots of staff. Everything was great.

A Dining Must While in Makarska, Croatia

During our walk about Makarska, we happened upon this restaurant and stopped to view the menu. We were greeted by Martin who professionally and passionately took us through some highlights of Castellum’s offerings. We thanked Martin and continued to tour the town before ultimately deciding to return to the restaurant for our dinner. Our decision to dine at Castellum was made because the location was away from the higher-priced and higher-traffic restaurants lining the shores of the sea. While the seaside locations are pretty, our interests were with quality. Regardless, Castellum has its own beauty. Other reasons for our return included: reasonable pricing for what appeared to be a high-end menu as well as the menu/food preparation passion shared by Martin. The food was phenomenal! And while that was a highlight, our dining experience was ultimately enhanced by the service provided by Martin who answered all questions patiently with succinct but wholly informative answers. He was attentive without being intrusive. We thank Castellum for the fine dining experience and Martin's presence and professionalism! After three weeks in Croatia, we can confidently proclaim that Castellum was the best restaurant we visited during our vacation!

We had received tips about this restaurant from several friends and even read online about it so our expectations were high. Unfortunately we were not impressive, the starters were pasta with mussels that we thought was tasteless, black risotto with smoked mussels was a bit tasteless and with few mussels, the mussels were good. The main course consisted partly of steak with truffle paste, it was very good and the right size. The tuna with sweet potatoes lacked some flavor, the potatoes were too neutral & the tuna felt a bit chewy. Also missed wasabi in the wasabi mayonnaise unfortunately. Our dinner was not what we hoped for, but we were well received and we appreciate adjusting the bill according to our feedback.

From Gaja, Chatue Gazin Pomerole and many more of them. And we are very proud to have one of the best wine list in Makarska Riviera. I the name of the food, you were ask at every course is everything good with your food and you gave us positive feedback. Not quite sure, maybe you were looking for a free dinner but that is not how Castellum is doing buisness. If you have any critics or complains you are very welcome to tell us straight away that we can fix things and take your critics for the future. We had a bit of trouble finding the entrance but so glad we did! The staff is very friendly and professional. Our foursome and 3 y.o. were warmly welcomed and a child's menu was offered- chicken nuggets or pasta w or w/o tomato sauce. the amuse bouche was amazing as was the steak in oil and the tuna and beef tartares. Lovely evening and relaxing meal.

Excellent food and service. Very interesting and delicately prepared dishes with beautiful presentations and delicious flavor. The Adriatic plate was of the highest grade fish giving and the preparation was beautiful. We were at a Michelin rated restaurant last night and this was comparable to the excellent quality and service you would expect from a restaurant with that rating at a fraction of the cost. We will be back before we leave makarska to enjoy another meal. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

We ate here two times this semester and it was good. The starters where very good and high quality of the raw groceries but the main courses didnt taste much. Funny part of the last dinner was that the waiter begged for tip and told us that the service is not included in price. The wine they have is very good and very good rakija do they have.

We were recommended this restaurant by two random strangers that had a reservation the same evening. While walking we stumbled upon the restaurant and decided to give it a shot. Everything from the greeting in the door, to our extremely service minded waitress, the food and the atmosphere was exceptional. The gratinated strawberry dessert may be one of the best dessert I’ve ever had! The experience was so good that we reserved a table in a couple of days even tho we aren’t staying in Makarska. We are highly recommending this restaurant!

Reservations were easy, friendly service, excellent service for drinks and food despite the crowds. Everything was served on time and with appropriate explanation. We had a sharing starter with the family, which really does justice to Croatian cuisine. The main courses were of the same quality and we left the table satisfied and enriched with a great experience in the beautiful courtyard of Makarska.

We really enjoyed the food. Chicken with plum was amazing. The duck with celery purée was delicious. Tuna was incredible But truffle pasta was all over the top. It’s worth it money ! Our waiter Krešo was simply amazing he told us so much about the food and traditions we really enjoyed it

Fantastic Sunday evening dinner in the Castella restaurant. Lucky find for us as passing by and it looked lovely. Food was brilliant, service first class and our waiter who had spent 4 years in a Michelin starred restaurant in Dublin was excellent in explaining the dishes and recommending a great bottle of wine. Highly recommend for a special dinner.

This is our third year in Makarska and we always eat there 2-3 times a week. Our absolute favorite place. Incredibly friendly and accommodating, children are given a warm welcome, the food is always top notch!

Friendly staff but you eat VERY BAD!!!! Bitter octopus carpaccio, badly thawed, sent back. Shrimp and saffron risotto without saffron and salt, sticky as in the worst hospital cafeteria. Tasty salmon accompanied by a watery sauce. Cheap but undrinkable wine by the glass (we tried three different types). Prices average Croatian but high compared to the indecent quality of the cuisine.
