We wanted to go to this taverna as we had seen it featured on Rick Steins series. Fortunately we got a reservation at 8pm. The restaurant was busy and very noticeably , family friendly with lots of children in family groups. The waiter was very pleasant, laid back, taking his time enabling us to take the atmosphere in - just like going into a family home for a Sunday lunch.
The food is produced by the family members and is very simple but delicious. I swear the anchovies were the best I have ever tasted, from a man that wasn’t that keen on them. We shared the mains Pasticada With Macaroni ( beef tenderloin) and the highly recommended goats cheese ravioli in sage sauce- sublime.
The local wine was fine - very keenly priced makes a change from getting ripped off for wine in a fancy restaurant.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant that bills itself as “Taste genuine Korčula food in a glass of good wine, desserts inspired by natural products or simply a slice of homemade goat cheese”.

We had a fabulous dinner at Konoba Mate. We started up being welcomed by our excellent server (oh god, I am now not sure but I think his name was Ante;)) and we also had a lovely chat with Ana.
We followed all the recommendation and we were not disappointed: we started up with a delicious plate of black ravioli with green beans puré, stuffed with cod (one of the daily specials). For mains, I went for an spectacular dish of veal cheeks which melted in my mouth, incredible flavourful and my wife had Makaruni with almond pesto: a very fresh -both literally and metaphoricaly- flavor. The desert was a funky verbena sorbet..to die for.
All properly washed down by local Posip.
Fantastic spot, great food, fabulous experience.

This restaurant for reason has Michelin recommendation. On the menu is written that everything they serve is from their own garden. We had an amazing tuna pašticada and handmade makaruni (traditional pasta) with prawns. For the desert we ate chocolate cake with almonds and rožata. Every single dish was full of flavours and simply delicious. Thank you for the wonderful dinner. We will come back for sure!

Really had high hopes for this restaurant based on the traveller reviews and Michelin rating. I’m really hoping it was just an off night because our server was a last minute replacement (not sure why) who first normally work there was was clearly overwhelmed. From the moment we arrived it felt as though something was “off.” No real welcome, sat waiting for 10 minutes before anyone came by with a menu, needed to remind server of requested items several times, was told a wine we picked was a white wine but then was brought a red (quickly corrected), ran out of the main we ordered, brusk handling of the bill and payment. In the end, we shared 2 glasses of white wine (good), half carafe of house white (pretty bad), goat cheese ravioli (excellent), tuna (delicious sauce but woefully over cooked tasteless tuna) and tomato salad (farm fresh delicious). I think if we stuck to pastas and salad we would have really enjoyed the meal, but the service was abysmal. On the plus side: the setting is in a lovely courtyard. Sadly, I don’t think we will be back.

We booked a table in advance - restaurant is overbooked because it has 5 tables for circa 10 people and one person serving all.
When choosing what to eat a waitress made very poor explanations and recommendations with comments to make us feel ignorant and stupid about the local food - menu is written in local dialect understandable to locals of the island. Same happened while choosing the deserts.
With trained and pleasant staff this restaurant could provide much better service. Also listing in some fish meals and dishes - you could feel the island tastes,
Nice to try but wouldn't repeat as the service is way below the student cafeteria not to mention the pricey konoba.

This place defines "farm to table" for the serious foodie. We were taken here by Zoran with Korcula Adventures as part of our farewell dinner. After two weeks of exceptional Croatian food, we didn't think it could get any better. And then...Konoba Mate.
The restaurant is located in little Pupnat village, the oldest settlement on Korcula. Stone walls and grape vines decorate the restaurant patio, which sits next to beautiful stone churches and 13th century structures.
The service was warm and friendly without being intrusive. Our server answered questions and was knowledgeable in making suggestions.
First course: marinated swordfish and a platter of different cheeses, prosciutto, olives, capers, vegetables and pates. Just amazing. Everything was homemade, even the five types of goat's milk cheeses. Hunks of crusty fresh bread were delicious.
Entree: Pasta with fennel sauce and goat cheese ravioli. Oh, boy! The obviously homemade pasta was perfectly cooked. The fennel sauce was lightly creamy and seasoned beautifully. The goat cheese ravioli was buttery and intensely flavorful.
Dessert was outstanding. We had a rich, deep chocolate cake dotted with red pepper flakes (!), covered with chocolate ganache and a side of homemade marmalade. We also had a traditional Croatian chocolate hazelnut torte. There wasn't a bite left!
Prices are very, very reasonable for a Michelin star-quality restaurant. This gem gave us the most memorable meal of our trip. For an island with food as good as Korcula's, that's impressive. Definitely not to be missed.

I had booked this Konoba prior to our holiday, after watching ‘somebody feed Phil’, after reading its lonely planets top Korcula restaurant and seeing that it was Michelin recommended. We waited 30 mins to get our table even with a booking. The restaurant itself was very cute with it vines and outdoor seating. After being seated for 15 minutes, I had to call a waiter over to ask for menus and it continued downhill from there. You can’t walk away or go somewhere else, as there is nothing else in the village. They were more preoccupied with serving their large groups and rarely tended to the smaller bookings. During our meal, their cat and dogs were walking around the tables and mosquitos were everywhere, so our skin was crawling. Now the food, average, overrated and absolutely not worth any trip or hype. We ate a better meal in the tourist area of the old town. I’m not sure how this establishment qualifies as Michelin recommended.

Small and private, family run restaurant in Pupnat. The starter was extraordinary, “Plata” with different cheese, olives and prsut. (!) Afterwards we regret we haven’t ordered two of them:-)! The food was very, very good. Waiter serving us was very polite and was trying to explain everything in 3 languages. Thank you for your patience! The restaurant is located in small village (Pupnat), privately between houses and has two terraces. We sat on the one in the back, next to gallery. We loved the beautiful napkins that were stiched with different themes. Thank you for the wonderful evening, we will come again!

The food was delicious and we didn’t have to wait for too long. Both the fish and meat plates were exquisite and we all left the restaurant full. There was a nice view of the sea but what made this restaurant really special was the waiting staff. The waiter (a multilingual man from Čakovec) was incredibly nice and we had several great laughs with him. We even got free dessert and a Schnaps on the house at the end. Thank you!

Our apartment host recommended that we eat at Konoba Mate. She said it would have a Michelin star if it were not so cheap. She was right to recommend this place. We did not have reservations but were able to get a table around 6PM on a Saturday night. The server was very nice. I had the house salad and goat cheese ravioli. My wife had the almond pesto pasta. The main courses and the dessert (homemade vanilla ice cream some sort of olive pudding) were excellent. The food could not have been more tasty. It is obvious that this family run restaurant cares about the food it serves. I am very glad we made the trip to Konoba Mate.

Konoba Mate is a true family enterprise, and you can feel that everything here is made with love and care. All of the dishes were fantastic and the ambience is perfect. The service is on point and we especially loved the kittens that were running around our table.

We visited this on the recommendation of the villa operator- it was about 15 minutes drive from where we were staying in Zrnovska Banya but worth the drive. We booked through their website which didn’t work so I recommend calling. When I rang to ask about our reservation later that evening they said they were booked but could fit us inside as they hadn’t received our reservation. They kindly moved us right outside onto the beautiful courtyard as soon as a table was free. It was a Wednesday evening and was packed with locals and visiting Croatians - always a good sign. The service was excellent and the food very simple but delicious. We started with the small smoked ham and asparagus omelette which we had with their amazing tomato salad. We then moved onto the Veal cheeks with celery and cauliflower purée and Pasticada With Macaroni, both of which were wonderful. We had a lovely dry rose too. For dessert we tried the homemade ice cream and sorbets- just wonderful. It was incredibly reasonably priced and was one of the best meals of the holiday. Make the effort to visit.

The staff is very friendly and nice and food is amazing. We eat tuna and meat pasticada with gnocchi for the main and it was amazingly prepared. For the desert we had mousse de laurel and hrostule. The mousse was very aromatic and interesting. Hrostule is traditional pastery also very tasty. Waiter was very friendly and professional. Also, ambient is homie but pleasent. I highly recommend to visir this place.

We had one of our best meals in Croatia at this delightful taverna. Reservation is necessary, as the place is almost always full (for dinner).
Everything (from appertisers to dessert) was very unique and wonderfully delicious! I have attached some photos here of all the dishes that we had ordered, and I wish we can have them all over again. They were that good :-)! The surprise at the end of our meal was the cheesecake that we ordered for dessert. so unlike the normal cheesecake, this was made with fig, and contained different base.
Service was prompt, the atmosphere was very cosy in a little enchanting village that looked so tranquil and atmospheric at night.
Overall, we an highly recommend this amazing konoba to others wanting some uniquely prepared authentic dishes.

During our two-day passing by across the island Korcula we heard for this place as a "must try" so we did. Konoba Mate is placed in a Pupnat village, near the Korcula-Vela Luka highway which is about 5km from the sea...Quite big terrace with about 7 tables for 8, nice shade....we took homemade ravioli with goat cheese for starter, beef stew with homemade macaroni and lamb stew with green pees for main course and sorbetto with domestic herbs for desert. We also took some red house wine. Some traditional dishes cooked with fresh, personal touch and excellent ingredients, very helpful stuff. It was our first visit, so I can't wait to visit them again....
