We went here after being recommended by our airbnb host. They don't take reservations so arrived at 8pm and had a 30 minute wait, which was fine especially with a glass of wine. However some of those who arrived closer to 8:30 were being turned away. We ordered the chefs surprise which was a pepper stuffed with meat and also the barley with veg, shrimp, almond and figs. Also we ordered dessert, drunken figs (figs soaked in brandy) and the selection of Dalmatian cakes and a glass of red wine each. Overall the food was good and interesting choices which was good to try something new. However our meal came to £50, which to be honest I thought to be a bit pricey for what we got and all being local produce. Hvar is expensive anyway but we have had better on the island.

We stumbled across this little restaurant one night when exploring Hvar and were drawn in by the 'traditional Croatian food, no pasta, no pizza, no Coca Cola' sign so decided to give it a go and we're so glad we did!!! The restaurant is run by a local family (now the 3rd/4th generation) and serves local, authentic Dalmatian food that is grown on site or locally to Hvar. The restaurant is situated upon the family home, giving you a homelike feel - very warm and welcoming. The service was flawless, we were served by Mario (the son of the lady who cooks and creates all the meals/menus) who was incredibly passionate and informative about the restaurant, it's heritage and family history. When we turned up every table was full (a great sign) but we were seated straight away, then offered a better table once it became available. In terms of food, we opted for the barley with shrimp & veggies and stuffed pepper with veggies which was absolutely delicious and very well priced. We finished with the marinated figs and a complimentary dessert wine - very much appreciated. One thing to note, it's cash only but doesn't tend to be a problem when you're travelling abroad. Cannot recommend this place enough, a must when in Hvar!

This was a great find. Just off the staircase with traditional food and a traditional vibe and atmosphere in the restaurant absolutely loved this. House wine was just 20kn such a bargain and the main dishes were all reasonably priced considering it's Hvar. I totally recommend this place you have to try dit while here. It is literally the most authentic place I have eaten in Hvar and Croatia.

First of all, beware that this restaurant is cash only and has only 8 tables inside (no outdoor dining). If you arrive after 7.30pm you’ll need to wait maybe an hour for a table. The guy manning the door is helpful with cushions and ordering wine while you wait. We eventually got a table an hour later and were very excited eating here after reading the reviews. As a vegetarian I had some hopes the vegetarian food might be good as they had 4/5 options. I asked the waiter for a suggestion and he suggested the barley and vegetables as the best option and my partner got the shrimp gnocchi. We also got the vegetable plate. The food arrived 10 mins after ordering, apparent that it was sat ready and not made to order. My partners gnocchi was ok but my barley was completely bland. A second waiter who came to tidy the tables asked how our meals were and when I said it was bland he said “well it’s barley so how tasty can it be”. LOL WTF why is it even on the menu then?! He proceeded to tell me he liked it with bacon which made no sense at all to me being vegetarian and besides the point. No apology given, no discount on the bill and basically no fks given that me as a customer was dissatisfied. Worst meal I’ve had in Croatia so far in a week and terrible customer service (this seems to be a trend though).

Since anyone can write anything on trip advisor we wanted to write our side of the story but after reading some of your past reviews on trip advisor we decided It is not necesary. Seems like you are a magnet for "bad" service and food everywhere you go. Having managers and staff apologize to you, giving discounts and compliments of the house seems to smooth things up just a little bit. Have a nice day!

We visited Hvar only for one evening and the owner of this restaurant invited us in on the way up to the fort. We told him we would return in an hour which we did, and were shown to a secluded table just for two which was perfect. The restaurant is family owned and run and the staff were great at explaining what dishes would compliment each other. We shared a Croatian platter and Octopus salad both of which were delicious and fresh - all the food is sourced locally. The owner and his son took the time to chat with us even though they were very busy and they made everything they were doing look easy! The atmosphere is really great, busy without being crowded and vibrant without being too noisy - we had a lovely meal and we will definitely be back!

If you are searching for a local authentic place where you can try normal healthy food without all those same gibberish around the world this is the place. We had a vegeterian stuffed bell pepper and a wild boar with gnocchi. Boar was hunted in Hvar wich is really great to eat something from the island itself. Everything is calm relaxed and easy. Service is top notch with a lot of information and time to speak with you as this is a small cellar family run for a long time.

Best restaurant we ate in during our stay in Croatia! You really do experience such a warm welcome as well as beautiful and delicious Croatian food, all whilst feeling like you are a guest in someone’s home. We went simply with the recommendations of the house and are so glad we did as we were able to sample lots of amazing dishes. All of the staff obviously love what they do and are very knowledgeable and proud to help people experience the best of Croatian cuisine, Children were happy too with their home made lemonade and gorgeous shrimp gnocchi. Owner also spoke with us and told us all about the dishes and made us feel at home. Thanks so much, you really know how to make people feel special and looked after. Left with smiles and full stomachs.

We were a fairly large family group of 8. With a wide age range and very differing palates. We were greeted and taken to our table where we started to examine the menu but then our host came to tell us about the ethos of the restaurant. It is about celebrating authentic Croatian cuisine. We allowed ourselves to be guided by him, what a great decision! We enjoyed every dish, which was served with homemade red our white wine. We were absolutely replete and declined a sweet but a selection of homemade delicacies was brought out for us and we managed to squeeze these in! We were also served a homemade fig liqueur, not for me, but the whole experience was fantastic. What an evening.

Definitely the most authentic meal that we had in 11 nights in Croatia and great value for money. A tradional Konoba on the steps up to the fortress that feels a million miles away from the glitz and the glamour of Hvar port restaurants and all the better for it. Really friendly family restaurant with staff that take time to explain the dishes that are lovingly prepared. The Octopus Salad was the highlight of any meal I had on holiday! All dishes were excellent and the accompanying local wine was lovely at a fraction of the cost of other restaurants

My boyfriend and I had a very pleasant dinner at Konoba Menego. The restaurant serves authentic Dalmatian food with local ingredients in a rustic atmosphere. The service was excellent and very courteous. I can absolutely recommend this spot for dinner!

Loved this restaurant- perfect if you fancy some more traditional Croatian cuisine. I ordered the octopus salad which I thought had amazing flavour and was very fresh. Members of my party also ordered the boar and the shrimp gnocchi which they said were both delicious. The house wine was pleasant being produced on the island and we were also impressed with the drunken figs and cheese for desert. The pricing I would say was mid-range spending approx €90 for a family of 3 including mains, deserts, drinks and bread/olives for starter- not the cheapest however we have definitely seen similar meals for much more expensive surrounding the island. The atmosphere was lovely and the restaurant looked like it had been carved out of the rock which we were all very impressed with. The service was also excellent and the waiter was very friendly. Overall we loved the food and the atmosphere and would recommend to others visiting hvar looking for a more traditional meal.

Friendly staff and beautiful restaurant. Food was lovely. We had the antipasti to start with and I ordered the chefs special which was chicken in white wine and polenta. I have to say this dish was delicious. Very tasty. As for the orange cake, fantastic!!! I need the recipe :). I keep saying to my partner this was my favourite meal of the whole holiday. Thank you!

Deliciously authentic Dalmatian food served in a historic family run restaurant situated on the stone steps up to the fortress. Worth the uphill walk though! Had read other reviews and decided to opt for an octopus salad to start (really fresh and very tasty) , followed by the boar pasta "boar prepared on a hunting mode" and the Dalmatian shrimp with gnocchi (melted in the mouth). Delicious. Very good ( and good value) house wine produced on the island and served by the glass or half and full carafes. We had the white and enjoyed it. Be prepared - cash only though. Our waiter was very friendly and enthusiastic about his place of work and its history - be prepared to listen before you order!!

This little family run place feels like you are getting home cooked meals from home grown products using family recipes from grandma. We had the traditional tuna steak with gnocchi even though we didn’t think we liked tuna (wow! Sold!) and the stuffed green pepper with fig and over beetroot compote. Unbelievable! Homemade olive oil. Red house wine from grandfather (best house wine we’ve had in Croatia... strong, bold). And finished with young goat cheese with honey. Absolutely delicious. Great chatting with owners and chef. Just know they only take cash.

This family owned and operated restaurant is a one of a kind experience. Every dish, every detail is expertly crafted in a homey and familiar style. If you are a fan of the healthy and secret recipes of genius grandmothers around the world, this is the place for you. The restaurant itself is in the house where the very family lives. The mom and dad will cook and prepare everything, the sons will wait you at the table. Best food I had in Croatia
