One of the nicest restaurants in Birmingham, AL is Highlands Bar & Grill. We had to make reservations a month in advance to get a table. Even though our reservation was around 08:15 PM, our table was ready a bit earlier than 08:00 PM and...got to enjoy our experience from beginning to end. It is quite an experience starting with service and different food options. I was a bit disappointed that the sweetbreads were not part of the menu this time, but the overall experience was more than decent. It is certainly one of the many great restaurants to consider when visiting BirminghamMore
I took my mother here for a celebration meal. Everything was wonderful. Don’t miss the grits or the signature coconut cake. Both the meat and seafood were done well. Reservations can be difficult, but it’s sister restaurant next door Chez Fon Fon, is bistro style,...with no reservations and the same quality.More
I enjoyed every moment, from the warm welcome to the great starters, salads, entrees, and desserts.
The friend chicken liver was my favorite with the pork chop entree a close second. We tried many of the savory and sweet options and we enjoyed all of...them. I will be back my next visit to Birmingham!More
Elegant room; maitre de service. Wine list well curated, not super expensive. Breads-- a house sourdough, sour as it should be and well done. A decent light corn muffin. Tried a potato leek soup. While a good bisque (a little creme fraiche in there), advertised...black truffle shavings had no depth of flavor. Main veal medallions over baby spinach (perfect), roasted garlic heads, polenta. Nicely cooked, but crust oversalted. Dessert a strawberry tart, tasty fresh and light, nice citron peel. Our feleing was this is as good as Birmingham gets.More
Plan ahead for dinner and be prepared for the best. Visit the bar before dinner for a lively upscale and inviting place for original cocktails and the standards. Service was top notch too. I had the fish special, which was amazing. Always memorable!!
The service is fantastic and food excellent BUT I opted for a 12 oz ribeye which was Less than a 1/2 thick priced at $52. A Prime or grass fed steak for that price should have been an inch thick. Highly overpriced.
Happened to be in BHM last week on business and thought we would drop into Chez FonFon. Right before heading in we thought we would roll the dice and see if by chance the Highlands may have had a cancellation. We were in luck! We...were able to get a table for four without a reservation. So glad we did! Whatever your taste is, you simply can never be disappointed with the Highland. Frank and his staff have a clear understanding of what diners want. Freshest ingredients impeccably prepared, great drinks, great service, great atmosphere! Wine prices are on the high side, but still a decent selection of moderately priced bottles. This is really my only complaint about the Highlands. This should be your "go to" spot if you are in BHM. Plan ahead, you will need reservations.More
The Shrimp Salad was one of the best salads I've ever eaten. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and served with various lettuces, grapefruit, pomegranate seeds and a delightful citrus vinaigrette. My pheasant was ok--not great, but the woman next to me had a beautiful-looking venison....I think I'll order than next time. Fun atmosphere at the bar, where you can be seated without a reservation.More
