We love coming here. The food was great, personally recommended by the chef, and it was good to see the place busy. They all care about their craft from Aaron welcoming us, Malik shucking, to Robbie slinging drinks with some flair, a lot of laughs...for a much needed night out. Recommend this place well over Highlands, you'll be treated well!More

My wife and I really enjoyed our date at Ocean! We had reservations for the outside patio, which would have been fine, but we asked and they happened to have an opening inside. The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered appetizers and the seafood tower...for our entree. We weren't sure if that was too much food but out server steered us away from ordering a sushi roll, which was wonderful since the tower had so much seafood! The desserts were unreal!More

My husband and I found this cute little restaurant during a trip to Birmingham. We just pulled into town and we starving. We didn't realize reservations were needed, and because we were there early enough, they were gracious and gave us a table. We had...sushi, king crab and thai green curry bouillabaisse. All were delicious. Our server was FANTASTIC (I wish I could remember his name). I can't wait to go back to Birmingham and revisit this establishment.More

My 16 year old and I were in town for a soccer tournament last night and stopped in to this restaurant. We were in sweatshirt and jeans while most people were more dressed up. They seated us right away since they knew we would be...fast and would clear the table by their next reservation. Kudos to the reception people!! Also, kudos to Mitch our server. You all were so wonderful. For an appetizer we had the crunchy salmon sushi roll which was just as good as sushi I have had in Japan. For an entree, my son got the hickory grilled salmon, I got the hickory grilled grouper. They were done to perfection with the best mashed potatoes and spinach we've had in a long time. We followed it up with the cinnamon roll creme brulee. It was absolutely fantastic and the staff was absolutely wonderful. It was a little pricey but I don't mind paying for really good food and this place is definitely worth it.More

Great location, ambiance, service and selection. I sushi was excellent. Unfortunately, some bugs wanted my Pappy bourbon. I fished out a few but then a big one attacked. Good news is they replaced the last sip. While, I would have expected another pour for good...gesture the price of the Pappy was reasonable. So, not complaining. Why report here? Because I record my memories- Relax! Grouper was awesome as was desert including coffee. I'm still rating excellent because I would definitely return-- in fact looking forward to returning. I will bring a drink cover as I'm not sharing the Pappy.More

The atmosphere is very inviting and displays a large variety of seafood. I attended a business dinner which offered limited choices for us. We started with crab rice balls and tuna sushi. The sushi had some sriracha on it and were cut excessively thin. One...could barely taste the fish. The crab balls were also heavily reliant on the rice making me question the quality of ingredients; most of the appetizers were made with fillers like rice to give the appearance of heartiness. I ordered the seed-crusted grouper with cucumbers and harissa. It had no flavor. I was hoping for more harissa or tahini or even seed taste. Nothing. Plus, it was served luke warm, like it had been sitting under one of those food warmer lamps. The vanilla bean creme brulee, however, was divine. My colleague got a coffee with Kahlua which seemed to be a perfect accompaniment to end their evening. The service was attentive.More

We had a reservation for 8:15 p.m. and arrived at 8:00. We were told at 8:15 that our table was almost ready, but we were not seated until shortly after 9:00 p.m. We talked with others around us with similar reservation times who experienced similar...wait times. Once we were seated, we waiting extended periods of time to place orders for appetizers, entrees, and dessert. The only good thing regarding the service was the attentiveness to our water being refilled. Other than that, service was well below average. We didn't leave the restaurant until shortly after 11:00, and we left promptly after finishing dessert (we didn't sit and chat). The food was really good. The baklava ice cream is probably worth the visit. On the negative side, there were several items on the menu that were no longer available, and we weren't made aware of this until 10-15 after ordering. While the food was good, it's just not worth paying $265 for a party of 5. The management of reservations and service needs significant training and/or improvement to be considered in this presumed class/caliber of restaurant. We don't live in Birmingham, AL, so we visited based on TripAdvisor and OpenTable reviews. While the hostess apologized to us for the wait as we were being seated, no one else, to include management, made an attempt to express that our time or experience was of value. While I am normally one to initiate conversations on making things right (discount, etc.), I chose not to since we were celebrating a special occasion with friends. I would expect a restaurant (especially of this class/reputation) to at least initiate the conversation. One final note... ignore the "business casual" dress code. This isn't a complaint, but there were multiple people in jeans, including a hostess. I'm surprised one of the previous reviewers felt uncomfortable wearing jeans in this restaurant.More

The best prepared and freshest seafood anyone would desire. Oceans always matches or exceeds my expectations. George Reiss is a master chef and everyone from the hosts to the waiters and waitresses are so friendly and well trained. The appetizers, main courses and deserts are...so creatively prepared and presented.More

Excellent place for celebrating Anniversaries, Birthday and Valentines as well as just Treating Yourself! The food is delightful, the Service very good and the ambiance , seems cozy for a large restaurant area. Oysters are very good. The Lobster was delicious and perfectly cooked which...is hard to find these days.More

There was no a specific gluten free menu, however, one of the people at the table next to us was gluten free and the server was able to make sure she knew which items were gluten free including desserts.
