My cab driver said that Fife's is the place to go for traditional local fare. It is essentially a buffet line with all the food pre-cooked in warming trays. The fried chicken was very good but the meat loaf was so-so. The sweet potatoes (I LOVE sweet potatoes) were so syrupy that they were dripping. The service was GREAT. Very... More

My friend took us there for lunch. The food portions were so worth it and the taste was awesome. If I ever visit AL again I will definitely go back.

Great southern food. From the fried chicken to candied yams, it was great! Dine in or take out, you will leave stuffed!

After too many meals on the road in bright, trendy eateries, this was a pleasure. Not pretty outside, pretty plain inside, but a line of good solid food like grandma used to make. My baked chicken and greens were excellent. I was there to eat alone....so I was actually grateful for the news playing on a TV on the wall.... More

Fife's has been around my whole life and the area it's in has certainly declined. The building doesn't have its own parking lot on the side plus metered street parking, Inside it's nothing fancy, but it's large & clean & serves cafeteria-style good ol' Southern home cooking. The guy who's usually behind the counter tries for humor, but it doesn't... More

Nothing fancy, just some of the best down home cooking that you'll every eat. There's always a good selection of food to choose from and the owner always greets you with a smile. I've been coming here for 25 years and I've yet to have a bad experience. If you want fancy, then go to a French restaurant! If you... More

Found this on YELP! while staying in Birmingham on business for the first time. I wanted to find a 'non-standard' breakfast spot. This place is downtown and isn't much to look at from the outside. But it's clear the locals breakfast here, and I understand why. A basic breakfast menu, and the prices are right. I imagine this place hasn't... More

had good soul food I thought a little to pricie for the amount you receive but I guess you have to make profit if you are to stay in business but should have deals like drink added for 50 cent more

I had heard of this place from some, and I decided to try it out. The food here is served in a cafeteria-like serving line, and includes many Soul Foods. I would more than likely return here again.
