On a beautiful winter's day VT was swollen with international tourists and we were struggling to find a restaurant with any free tables, when we came across this restaurant that was new to us. The only available table was by the door, which made it a little draughty, but a heater had been placed considerately. The waitresses coped well with a busy lunchtime and service overall was very efficient. There is an interesting menu, at predictably inflated prices, and a little information about the fascinating origins of the building. The food was well-cooked and presented, and the house wine very palatable.

Astounding service and food standard for relatively low prices. They were very particular about every plate and piece of cutlery, what goes with what and where it is placed. The service was quick and felt very well calculated. Excellent choice of salads. The risotto was a bit on the salty side, but overall everything was top-notch.

Fantastic atmosphere, blended with exquisite cuisine. I love it how the ancient heritage of this 19th century place meets the modern demands in a much non-pretentious yet very elegant manner. To wrap it up- you get a perfect meal at a fair price and feast your eyes and soul at the same time.

The prices are not cheap, the table service was great! Food is very poor and not by any chance made by a Chef! The entrances arrive and after 5 minutes the main dishes.... have ask them to keep the food to avoid getting cold and all was bad.. meat very dry, vegetables over cooked the price for the wine and desserts is simply ridiculous...

I can notice a huge improvement in taste, compared to a visit few years ago. Elegantly served twisted local cuisine combined with the charming renessaince building of Hadji Nicoli inn. We had fantastic lamb with fusion drob sarma, mixed-flavor meatballs and chicken with porcini. Careful waiting staff. In my opinion better option to Shtastliveca.

We had high hopes for this restaurant and our first impression was that it was going to live up to our expectations. The building and outside garden is beautiful and a lovely place to dine. However, the food was average. The pork belly (approx £9) and meatballs (£12) were a little dry and the fries were served up in one of those mini steel fryer baskets lined with fake newspaper - not what you would expect in a more expensive restaurant. The beer was reasonably priced but the house wine a bit expensive for Bulgaria at 6 levs a 200ml glass (£2.65). The service was good though. If the food had matched the ambience, it would have been great. Sadly it didn’t.

After the street heat and noise, we - six guests - were politely greeted and immediately seated in the quiet and cool stone courtyard by the polite waitress who handed us the menu sheets and drinks. While we were admiring the architectural masterpiece from the 19th century by arch. Kolyu Ficheto, we were politely invited to see the art gallery on the third and last floor of the inn. Our table was surrounded by modern sculptures carved out by the famous local sculpturer Ponkata. The drinks and menu were served quickly and elegantly, and the taste qualities of the dishes were surprisingly refined. Baked trout, Bolyar meatballs, ribs, and marinated mushrooms, and grilled fillet were a real surprise for us, we saw more than one culinary miracle. Baklava dessert met all expectations and not by chance after we found out that it was prepared according to an original recipe by the specially hired chef. As a memorable ending, a bonus from the restaurant was served - a refreshing cup of a special cocktail to improve digestion.

A very beautiful building with a welcoming inner courtyard placed in the steep centre of Veliko Tarnovo. Minimalist menu with about 10 options for each course with a fusion meets tradition touch. We got 2 different kinds of guvech (pan steamed and fried vegetables) with spinach and shrimps that were really good, the pork ribs and rhe chicken steak (which tasted regular, nothing special) and the pesto pasta which were very good. Fir desert, the parfait (ice cream with caramelized nuts) was wonderful. The waiters are super nice and welcoming with humans as well as pets.

We went here as the listing states it has vegan options and several other reviewers stated that they had vegan risotto or that the chef made them something special on request. However there are no vegan options on the menu except a very plain salad or French fries and when I asked if the chef could prepare me something the answer eventually came back that he could make me 'vegetables'. Literally it was tasteless vegetables in a pot which for some reason was served at the same time as our appetisers (with an apology from the waiting staff). I don't necessarily expect restaurants to go to a special effort to make vegan food but I'd rather they just say if they can't be bothered to make a proper meal so I could elsewhere. My partner had trout which was extremely dry. Overall a disappointing experience and just posting this review on case other vegans are considering a visit. On the positive side - it is a lovely building with a beautiful courtyard, and the waiting staff were really lovely.

A really elegant restaurant in a ancient building (1858 ) , the ambience was very nice, warm and the waitress was very kind and friendly and also helped us with really good recommendations about food and drinks , we don t wait to much for the food, everything is very clean dishes, glasses. They don t have a really wide variety of food but everything they have on the list it is very well cooked. They pay attention for every details and they make you feel spoiled. If i can gave 10 stars i ll do it but unfortunately the maximum it s 5 . We ate here 2 times and each time was really good.

We dined here based on the recommendations we could see online from others, but suspect that those reviews are now all out of date as the menu, service and the experience were not comparable. The location is still amazing. The food tasted lovely and our inexperienced waitress tried very hard. But we could see that the menu choice had changed and is now more limited. Same as the local plates served everywhere for the tourists. Wine was really poor. Asking for advise on the menu/wine turned out to be pointless and I think because we were expecting so much we ended up more disappointed with the changes made to the restaurant in the last year or so.

Excellent waitress, fast serving, very welcoming. The ambience is superb with a medieval atmosphere. The food was very good although the pasta was misleading. A portion of pasta had mostly snitel and a bit of pasta on the side and the portions are a bit small although accurate from the menu.

I came here with my black labrador lady in a snowy day in the beginning of January. We have walked a lot around Tsarevets and we needed a nice cosy place to recharge and get some warm drinks. Nikoli inn was exactly the place we needed. My dogga felt much better after the herbal tea and the fresh juice. The music and art gallery contributed to our nice little rest.

Had a good lunch here. Good but not great. Pork and lamb. The meat was decent but it lacked flavor. The sauces were nice and the garnishes good (liked the bolletus sauce). The house wine was really bad though, don't go for it.

It might be that there are multiple entries. What we saw, before going in, was coffee and croissants, but once inside we saw it was a fully fledge restaurant. Best food ever, pork sous vide and basically anything you’ll choose is an explosion of rainbow taste! Highly recommended!
