Started a 6 hour food tour of Rio here. Only had fried cod balls and a great pineapple/mint drink. The place is charming and based on the sample I had, well worth returning to for a full meal.

Although the lamb, the Portuguese potatoes and the broccoli rice are very good, the place is more expensive than I expected and could be nicer. It is too old and needs some renovation.

Loud and somewhat dirty hole in the wall. Not cheap either. I paid $25 US during lunch for an overfried piece of tilapia with three mounds of mashed potatoes, a salad and water. Expensive for what it was and the place.

One of, if not the most traditional restaurant in Lapa neighborhood. It's old fashioned Rio style and some of the waiters are well known to customers for having worked there for decades. It is not a very nice or safe place outside, the best option is to take an Uber straight to its door. As for the food, the portions... More

Went for a typical Carioca supper at 11.30pm to this well worn dive of a place...It has an extraordinary feel to it full of esoteric locals so people watching is an "extra" off the menu. We went for the famed crispy lamb with broccoli rice and roast potatoes....it was off the charts !!! It is basic, plastic table covers etc... More

I enjoyed the lamb special for 2 although hubby found it greasy. The restaurant was recommended by a local tour guide (we weren't on a tour with him) so we gave it a try mostly to get out of the 90 degree heat. I tried to practice my Portuguese but the staff had a great command of English. We had... More

Lapa is Rio de Janeiro's neighborhood of nightclubs. The street the restaurant is on, is crowded with young drunks, both local, and tourists. But, when you step inside the Nova Capela, you are in a zone of orderliness, an old fashioned restaurant, with table clothes, and white coated waiters. The place has been there for over a hundred years, but... More

It has a best reputation for sea food and the best in the menu is the The Cabrito Assado ( fried got meat) with rice and Brocoli. Go by taxi and have them call a taxi for your getting back to the Hotel Not for children

Since 1903... As you will see the Lapa neighbourood can get very crowded with bar and restaurants crowded beyond capacity. That's why I value Nova Capela, offering a quiet ambient where you can have you conversation and taste good traditional recepies far from the frenzyness next door. And if a moderate extra price buys it, I gladly pay for it.... More

I was there during carnival, so you might imagine how crowded it was. Even in that special situation the quality of the food and the staff was superb. This is traditional Rio in all it's glory, with fast and diligent waiters, amazing caipirinha and dishes that are typically brazilian, but with international quality. But it doesn't stop there. The ambience... More
