This was another place I came across as I was walking around Rio. Saw people having a good time and decided to stop in for lunch! Plenty of choices on the menu and plenty of beer. Right on the corner so you can watch everything...happen while you are eating. Food is very good as well as the service! Highly recommend this bar for lunch or dinner!!More
Nice restaurant with lots of choices for both finger food and entrees. Decent drink list. Gets quite busy, but we only waited about 10 minutes for a table. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Close to lots of bars and shops. We had the roast...beef, cod balls, and black bean soup. Was good. Prices were very reasonableMore
Open from noon until midnight daily, Pavāo Azul is a cash-only Bohemian bar popular with locals as well as tourists for cheap Beer and hearty Snacks including Rice dishes and savory Pastries offered at low prices on an outdoor patio. Serving Rio de Janeiro for...over sixty years, lengthy waits to be expected during Copacabana’s busy season, seats are taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, only one two-top empty at 13h30 as servers hustle to and fro between the Restaurant and a kitchen that seems to be in a building behind it. Offering menus in Portuguese only, though a bit of familiarity with Brazilian cuisine goes a long way with such concise offerings, it was with Mineral Water poured that four plates arrived quickly, Patanisca at R$3.70 each a bonafide bargain for Salt Cod whipped creamy and fried golden in Batter without Potatoes. Featuring a blue Peacock above the door, and several Brazilian Beers that guests linger over for hours, another popular Food item is Pavāo Azul’s Shrimp Pastry, the same sauced Crustacean served over rice here wrapped and delicate in comparison to hefty Dumplings filled with Beef and Cheese or Brazilian Bean Stew for just R$6.00.More
It is the real "boteco"! The ambient is real and the food is amazing! The bolinho the bacalhau is a must
Visited twice while in Brazil, once in the evening where it was so rammed we could only get a small table round the edge to enjoy beer and bar snacks. Second visit was more planned and we came for a late lunch where we could...grab a table. The cod scones are really delicious with more of a firm texture and cod content than cod balls. The fish pasties were also yummy, a couple of cold local beers accompanied the casual dining experience.More
We came here on recommendation from a friend who had done some internet research on the best Brazilian experience in Copacabana. We sat down outside as a group of foreigners, blending in seamlessly with the rest of the locals, on a string of outside tables,...taking in the sights and sounds of a, what I assume, is a typical Monday night in Copacabana! The restaurant gets quite busy after 8pm, with Cariocas happy to stand around outside, drinking their local Chopp beers in little glasses. From their very homely menu of mostly meat dishes served with rice, beans and potatoes, we opted for their much raved about putanescas (cod fish cakes) and shrimp risotto. Although we weren't too keen on the overly-generous rice portion served with lots of small tasty shrimps, we absolutely loved the crispy-fried cod cakes, filled with predominantly fresh fluffy fish, and served with a picante chilli oil. I ordered a side of plantain fries (rustic thick-cut homemade fries, which were not oily at all), and a small side of white cheese, which I doused with pots of picante oil! The atmosphere is vibrant, the beers are flowing, and the food prices are extremely reasonable. A must-do boteca experience in Rio!!More
We were not very hungry and thought of following TripAdvisor’s recommendation. As soon as we got there, it was full of people. Wow, loads of people like to go there for typical drinks and food. It’s indeed a typical place where you can be in...touch with locals. The service is not good, but they are kind people.More
If you go to Rio, I suggest to you to pass at Pavao Azul after one morning in the beach. They have the coldest beer in Rio! Good prices, young and nice people, this bar shows to the foreigns the carioca's way of life. To...eat: Start tasting the Patanisca - a small fried cake of codfish. Amazing! Ask to the waiter the pepper of the house. To lunch (before 4pm) they hace special dishes with promotional prices. I suggest: Risoto of shrimp or milanese beef, rice, black beans and french fries.(around R$22,00 each plate) and it's for two people.More
We arrived that night and found this place through an online search. Clearly it's popular, especially with locals - the place was jammed when we got there. We still managed to find a table (luck, I suppose) and enjoy our evening there. Great energy from...the crowd, the noise and the street. Cheap drinks and Brazilian pub like food. Overall, a great experience.More
The location is a good start, close to the beach and right in the heart of the Copacabana quarter. Every day the terraces are packed with locals, creating a signature location you need to experience while in Rio. I haven't even mentioned the food yet...- which is so good, anything you order. Visit Pavão Azul during the weekend for the traditional specials. Perfect spot, absolutely.More
Great local spot in Copacabana for an ice cold beer and delicious food. HOWEVER, prepare to wait for a while. If you're in a rush this restaurant might not be a great option for you. They basically note your name on a piece of paper...and you wait until your name is called to be seated. Its definitely worth the wait though and a very convenient option less than 5 minutes walk away from the beach. Highly recommend if you're ever in the Copacabana area. While you wait to be seated try the empanadas or the cod fritters.More
It’s a MUST visit, great food, great beer, if you a traveling to Rio you have to go and visit, just amazing!
Saw this described as a tapas bar so popped in whilst in Rio. Nice place good place to sit at chat but it’s a snack bar at best. Good corner location expect to pay £3 for a snack.
Ordered the breaded steak and chicken sandwich and we were both blown away by the size of the dishes compared to price we paid. Both came with plenty of local delicacies which were absolutely lovely, and we would heartily recommend a trip here for a...real taste of Brazil before a visit to Copacabana Beach.More
