We came across this pretty little cafe/restaurant in Santa Theresa on our way back from Christ the redeemer. At 1 o'clock the cafe was full and they suggested we wait 2 minutes for a table. We were lucky enough to be given a table outside on a terrace with a great view of the valley. The menu was intriguing with... More

Made a reservation on the roof terrace one evening. We were self conscious about not speaking Portuguese as Santa Teresa is very much an area full of locals. But at Esparto Santa we were given our own English speaking waitress who was absolutely exemplary and so, so knowledgable. I would describe this restaurant as fine dining. We were recommended wine... I dined there on my own on my first night in Rio and not understanding a word of Portuguese. The waiter recommended a starter of green leaves stuffed with local shrimps followed by chicken marinated and served in a passion fruit sauce. Both dishes were superb. I also tried a couple of glasses of Brazilian wine which were also very... More

We had a lovely meal here. The food was really good and felt light and fresh. Not huge portions but the quality was great. The Gin Fizz was also delicious.... Definitely have one if you go!

This a really quaint and authentic restaurant in a great spot in Santa Teresa. The service was great, the drinks perfect, and the food delicious. The decor and artwork capture the essence of the neighborhood too. I believe there is a balcony where you can enjoy the view, the my friend and I sat inside. I strongly recommend if seeking... More

As we can read below, lots of tourists... especially French... In contrary as what's written below, it's absolutely not in the Favela. It's in Santa Teresa. Can be reach with bus 507 or 007 or 006. The juices are not natural... we had some natural before in the day (at the market ) and, trust me, it did not have... More

We visited as a large group. The feeling of the place is great and it has plenty of character. The food was good quality and very good variety. However.... We ordered side plates and appetisers and in total it took 2 hours for our food to arrive. I am all for a leisurely lunch but it almost ruined all the... More

Fell upon the restaurant intrigued by "Amazonian" cuisine. We've been finding Brazilian portions ridiculously big so settled on 3 starters to share. All 3 very delicious and quite sufficient. We were also pleased, as wine loving Europeans to find a small but beautifully formed wine list. We had a bottl of Brazilian Merlot blend and it was excellent. The restaurant... More

This restaurant is recommended by tripadvisor and worth it. The restaurant has a lovely little outside area with very good waiters..friendly and good recommendations on the menu. The filet mignon was superb and the prawns frideira was rich to eat ut delicious. The food was more pricey than other places in santa teresa but worth it.

Espirito Santa was one of our best meals in Brazil. The prices are slightly higher, but the quality of the food is really worth it. We tried the Feijoada de rolo as an appetizer, and they were absolutely incredible. Both entrees were very good as well, and the Amazonian flavor really comes through in the dishes. We were staying at... More

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
