Traditional, low key, generous portions, excellent seafood! Brazilian specialties include such as moquecas (fish, shrimp) with all the trimmings (farofa, rice, hot pepper sauce!, cozidos ( meats, sausages, plethora of vegetables from cabbage to carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes) in a casserole. Shrimp in a gourd is great. Also grilled fresh fish with steamed vegetables, for those who prefer to taste... More

The bar is simple but the beer is cheap and cold. The view from the "mureta" in from of the bar is just amazing. And watching the sunset in a clear day is a good tip for travellers.

It is an informal bar, (brazilians call it "boteco") where you can drink and eat at the wall ("mureta") close to the water.

Very laid back- don't expect a table and chairs! We just bought beers and snacks, and ate them while watching the sunset from the stone wall across the street from the restaurant. (But yes, they do have a bathroom!)

This was my favorite meal in Rio, the food while simple was delicious. We visited after we hiked Sugarloaf and were told that it was a fairly casual place. I would say that if you are eating downstairs, hiking attire is fine, but we felt a bit weird sitting upstairs in our hiking clothes. We were also told we would... More

It is a nice place to go to relax with a good beer and eat special kind of appetizers. I recommend the "pastel". Nice bay view and really good to relax in a brazilian style.

It has a nice view to Guanabara Bay and Niteroi the appetizers are ok but the service is awful. Try to get a beer during a sunny weekend. It is crazy. If it is packed, the beer will not be ice cold. I prefer to go to Urca Grill because the view is more beautiful, the beer is colder and... More

It's a great place to go in a sunny day, to spend de end of the afternoon drinking a cold beer, eating a good "pastel" and enjoy the wonderfull view of Rio de Janeiro! It's not a famous tourist place, so if you want go go to a place where cariocas go that's your place.

I took a pleasant afternoon stroll out Av. Portugal to the bar. I enjoyed the views of the harbor back toward Botafogo, Flamengo, and the downtown airport. The bar itself was nothing special, but you can get a refreshment after your stroll.

Staying in Urca

Neighborhood Profile
Urca
Urca is one of the oldest areas in Rio. Known for its incredible views of the city, the neighbourhood runs along Guanabara bay, providing visitors with an opportunity to watch the sunset from one of Rio’s greatest natural treasures: Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar). It is said that the locals in Urca are “bon vivant,” which is one of the reasons the area attracts people of all styles and ages. Urca is the perfect place to take a stroll and appreciate the area’s beautiful architecture, enjoy a cocktail and some delicious seafood pastries at a bar, or bring a bottle of wine and enjoy it while sitting anywhere along the stone seawall known as the “mureta.”
