We stayed in Santa Teresa for over a week, and looked for this restaurant every day as it was recommended in our guide book. When we eventually located it, it was closed every time we tried to go for a meal! As a result, can't comment on the food, but wouldn't recommend making a trip up to Santa Teresa just... More

I came by here despite the TripAdvisor reviews because I was staying nearby and it seemed to be the only place open after 9:30pm on a Tuesday night. I was the only customer. I had my doubts about getting sushi so late in the day and thought I better get cooked food instead, so I opted for a half portion... More

Strange sushi place in the middle of this cable car route full of local souvenir shops and bars. We had decent service with zero Portuguese spoken. Back view of the run down house roofs makes for interesting contrast, Rio style.

Arrived at 9 pm, gone at 10 pm.. We've been waiting an hour -and they were only 5 people in the restaurant - and decided to leave. The waiter was feeling sorry about us leaving but not really surprised. Go there if you're not hungry or have a lot of time to waste, otherwise walk away!

I've been here three times over 5 years, simply because it's the only sushi available in Santa Teresa and (ever optimistically) I'd hoped it had improved. It hasn't. The sushi itself is usually OK -never as good as the city's more traditional Japanese eateries- but the portions are generally small and the service some of the worst you'll find in... More

Avoid this place: warm beer, stale sushi, over priced... if you're looking for restaurants in Santa Teresa, try something more traditional a little further up the road. If you're looking for good sushi, this is not the place.

We had a 24 piece mixed sushi and found the fish to be really fresh. The quality was far higher than we had expected and we were pleasantly surprised. The salmon skin rolls were very moreish! We had the low table at the back which has lovely views. Service was good. Very reasonably priced (I think our sushi was less... More

Sansushi is one of the places recommended in the Rio Lonely Planet - why, is beyond me. It does make an ok impression, thus as someone who makes an effort to try Japanese food in all places I visit, I went ahead. It was a rather major disappointment, for a number of reasons. The sushi had none of the crispness... More

The sushis, sashimis, etc are just great. The view from the back porch is lovely. Open only for dinner Tue-Thu, lunch & dinner Fri-Sun. Closed on Mondays. BTW, the sake is great too, and the yakisobas, besides being very good and large, are a true bargain at R$22 (US$12)

My boyfriend and I went to Sansushi last Sunday and the fish wasn´t fresh. Now they have a TV inside.... Bad taste.... This is the only japanese restaurant in Santa Teresa, we need another one!

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
