Beautiful architecture similar to that found in Europe, we enjoyed our spinach and our cheese pastries. The "chocolate" coffee was VERY sweet so we wished we had opted for a regular cappuccino. We also tried the coconut tart which per our guide is very Brazilian. Much like a macaroon, very good, but again good for those with a sweet tooth!... More

We stopped in to see the architecture and have a pastry - was surprised to find we could also have a sit-down lunch. Enjoyed two sandwiches and coconut cake for dessert. Love the "push a button for assistance" feature (so waiters do not bother unnecessarily). A welcome respite after a morning on the Selaron Steps and the Aquaduct.

Has the best coffee in Rio. This cafe is very famous, found in 1874 and the prices are very good. Nice little place located within the fort of cocobananpa military base. Cold hazelnut coffee was good with the Brazilians treat.

One hundred and twenty years of age and the great refinement is still the same. The flavors of the specialties are also great. I recommend the special breakfasts and the american toasts: pure delicious!

Historic café that was inspired by the grand tearooms of Europe. Visit to take a step back to the late 1800's and view an original stained glass domed ceiling and imported Belgian mirrors. Colombo was founded as a pastry shop by Portuguese immigrants Joaquim Borges de Meireles and Manuel José Lebrão inn 1894. Today, stop by for a decadent sweets... More

I went here to see the architecture and to have an afternoon tea as I read this was one of the few places in Rio that had a good tea. Pros: 1. It is worth visiting to see the architecture. It is stunning with stain glass windows, crown molding, and wainscoting. It will be 200 years old this year (2016).... More

Lines can be long at weekends, for a breakfast or brunch. Most of the pastry of chocolate is based on dark chocolate, so avoid if you don't like it. I would recommend the Colombo Special Breakfast, which goes for around 47 BRL. Be careful at the surroundings, the area might be dangerous.

Such an amazing selection of cakes in a very grand space. Went for our second sitting of treats today and again were is sweets heaven. Expect to wait in line for a little bit for a table to become available but it usually goes pretty quick- this also gives you time to make the tough choice of what you're going... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
