We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner for two of red rice with shrimp and octopus. Excellent food, service and cost-benefit ratio. And the owner Juanito is very friendly and helps create a warm, cozy atmosphere.

Juanito's is consistently very good food, reasonably priced with very good service, either from Juanito, himself or his staff. We go to Buzios on weekends from Macae to "decompress" and the Porto de Barra area is the perfect match and Juanito's is so easy. Sit...down, ask him what he recommends and forget the rest. We had (twice now) fresh dorado with reduction of balsamic and soy sauce.......fantastic (again) with an excellent cab/Malbec (Montes) - awesome....and chocolate mousse....unique. All in all - totally satisfied (again)More

We were standing outside this restaurant looking at the menu, debating whether or not we should try it, when the owner came out to explain how the various dishes on the menu were cooked. He was so enthusiastic, helpful and friendly that we decided to...eat there and were not disappointed. The two fish dishes that we selected were different and delicious and the flambed mangoes that we had for afters were divine. We also had a very good white wine, which was reasonably priced. The service was excellent. Probably the best restaurant in Porto do Barra.More

Juanito is so personable that he himself is the waiter. As we stood outside of the restaurante looking at the menu, he greeted us and explained how the "fish of the day" was prepared. My wife and I both cook and could tell that this...man knew his fish! His description of the dish convinced us and we were NOT disappointed. The food was fantastic! Mine was prepared with a special recipe he had learned from the Amazon complete with a fried banana. My wife's fish was done with a sauce similar to that of "steak au poivre" but done with "pimenta rosa" which give a light, delicate almost fragrant touch to the cream sauce without being pungent. It was great. And with him as your waiter, you get a free "history lesson" on the past 20 - 25 years of Buzios! --- JOHNMore

A third visit to Juanito says a lot for this little gem situated in the Porto do Barra area of Manguinhos just ten minutes from downtown Buzios. The chef comes with top credentials having grilled steaks and other impeccable goodies at Cheval Blanc for many...years until it's untimely demise. Service is always excellent and rearranging the tables for our party was no problem. The menu has a Spanish flavor to it with an excellent tapas selection and other "petiscos", But I go there for the steak though I am reliably informed that the fish (Cherne) is superbly cooked as are all the pasta dishes. The meat is Argentinian, perfectly cooked to order and undeniably succulent! But not cheap - a huge hunk of prime rib is not for the timid, it is enormous and so is the price - aboutUSD50! The wine list is excellent but there are no bargains here. A moderately good Malbec set us back about USD40, though most of us drank the excellent local (well, sort of) beer, Therezopolis! An excellent, though hard to find Brazilian brew. There are a host of "to die for" deserts, that the chef has been doing for years. A great favorite of mine is the Mango Flambe (done with Cointreau!). It's predominantly outside dining and the atmosphere is quiet and laid back, at least on the occasions we have visited, Well worth searching out!More
