I have had mediocre Chinese food, good Chinese food, and great Chinese food. Before this order, I'd never had BAD Chinese food. Turns out it does exist, and you can get the worst possible at Mrs. Chen's kitchen. Most of the food is just flavorless....The chicken in garlic sauce, for example, is supposed to be spicy and VERY garlicky. But there is absolutely no spice, and not even the tiniest hint of garlic. Instead, the entire dish tastes like celery. Basically it's a big bowl full of celery with a little flavorless chicken thrown in. But things got REALLY bad when I tried the shrimp with mixed vegetables. In my experience, Chinese food usually gets both shrimp and broccoli exactly right -- perfectly crisp and no overcooked. Not at Mrs. Chen's! Here you'll get soggy, overcooked broccoli and MUSHY shrimp. Disgusting, inedible, flavorless, SPONGY shrimp. They are inedible. Period. Even ordering is a pain because the person answering the phone did NOT listen to what I said and called back repeatedly to clarify instead. Also in this order - Wonton soup: bland broth with a gummy, doughy wonton; not recommended Crab rangoon: flavorless, with a bland sauce, and lacking even the greasy satisfaction that comes with bad fried food; not recommended Beef lo mein: bland, noodles mushy and overcooked; not recommended Spring roll: passable, if you mustMore
Stayed recently at the Marriott Residence Inn in Arlington and awoke TWO mornings in a row to find garbage quad - folds laying in hallway in front of my guest door and those of others. Years back, when we lived around the corner, we stopped...ordering from Mrs. Chen's because of this practice, and informed building management. Clearly they care nothing about littering and offloading unto others the task of cleaning up after their delivery folks. Still at it! Food not worth the trash accumulation. Super eco obnoxious.More
I had Chicken with black bean sauce, and it’s very hot and fresh, and food was good! There have many dishes to choose from on the menu. Seems like many local people come here to eat or for take-out.
I work in Roslyn, I have ordered three times in the last month from them and the delivery has been great. The food has always been hot and fresh no complaints and I’m very picky about my Chinese food. Szechuan beef, pork w/vegetables, beef &...broccoli, ordered all three of them at least twice out of the three times. No complaints from anyone in our group because we share whatever we order and it everyone was happy.More
The only positive thing I can say about Mrs. Chen's is that it has plenty of parking and is on a busy strip - Columbia Pike in Arlington. I wish there was more good to say about the place, but words simply fail me. I...live very close to the restaurant and have eaten at it twice recently. Both times the food was bland in taste and awful in appearance. I love the color diversity of Chinese cuisine in general, but Mrs. Chen's food was all brown and unappetizing in flavor and appearance. I am easy to please in the cuisine department, but this food was just poor. I guess the second nice thing I could say is that a lunch special only cost me $7.99. I love to support local enterprises, but this restaurant, which has mysteriously been on the Pike for years, adds zero to the local pickings...More
I order nearly every trip. It is good food and they deliver to my hotel which is a nice alternative to room service. And less expensive - even with the $2.50 delivery fee.
Not sure I have ever had bad Chinese food, usually a good value for the money but I want to leave a comment on this restaurant. Ordered from our hotel room, food arrived in 30-40 minutes soup and entree were steaming hot, the vegetable egg...rolls were some of the best I have had. Really good food, good choice for delivery if you are in A Crystal City hotel or near by.More
The food was execllent. However they did mess up my order and did not send the fried rice thai I had paid extra to receive. I was staying at a hotel and they sent no utensils or plates for the food. I would order takeout...again maybe dine in.More
Our last night in D.C. area too tired from all the walking around and shuttle buses. Decided to order in. Mrs.Chen's delivers literally and in taste. They also provide plates bowls and utensils since we are in hotels. small delivery charge but who can argue...$2.50 and you don't have to leave your hotel. Thanks Mrs Chen's.More
We ordered online through an app, and the delivery was very quick. The food was great. The chicken lo mein was big enough to feed 3-4 people so I'm glad that's all I ordered. Wonderful taste and hot. My husbands chicken and rice was good...too. Would recommend.More
They delivered within 40 minutes, which was pretty fast! Our soup and wide noodles were really good. Our General Tso chicken was mostly batter, not enough chicken, but the flavor was good. They did equip us with plates, forks and everything because they knew we...were in a hotel, so that was nice!More
Delivery to the Hotel was quick. They brought us plastic plates, bowls, and forks. I have to say this was one of the best meals we had, food was very good and priced reasonably. If you like Chinese food you have to give them a...try. We ordered four different dishes to split and they all were delicious. Will have them deliver again when back in Arlington.More
I haven't been in Washington to actually order the fried chicken wings as a carry-out in many years, along with the fabled mombo sauce. But just as I remembered... PERFECT and DELICIOUS ! ! Had three orders (four LARGE wing sets per order ) delivered and...devoured lol. Thank you, they were GREAT ! ! !More
We ordered from here while staying at a hotel in Crystal City. The food was good and there was enough left over from the dinner portions we put it in the fridge and ate it again on day two. The prices were very reasonable for...the DC area. I am not sure if it was the hotel of restaurant but the driver called to meet me in the lobby and not go to the room.More
