Today was my first experience eating Russian/Uzbek food. I was pleasantly surprised and look forward to discovering new gastronomic preferences.
I ordered three appetizers: a potatoe pie (don’t recall the name) and a pie filled with lamb chunks, and a borscht soup. The potatoe pie...was “meh” in my opinion because it didn’t have much taste. I felt like I was eating unnecessary carbs. The pie filled with lamb chunks was delicious because the lamb was hot and well seasoned and the pie crust had a nice texture that was neither hard or soft. The borscht soup was a surprise hit. I use the word “surprise” because on the surface beets, cabbage, potatoes, beef, and sour cream don’t seem like a great combination. However, this soup was delicious! It was hearty, well seasoned, no one ingredient overpowered the soup. Overall, this soup was well balanced. I didn’t leave one drop in the bowl. I’ll definitely return for another bowl.
My husband and I ordered manti and leg of lamb as the entree. I didn’t enjoy the manti because it was a boring dish. It was simply a light dumpling filled with chunks of meat and covered in a brown sauce and sour cream. The leg of lamb had a lamb taste and it was mildly seasoned. It came with potatoe wedges and vegetables. Overall this meal was good and very filling. I would not recommend the manti to anyone who likes complex meals.
Also, I ordered a refreshing drink called Compot. This beverage is made of berries, apples, and peaches. I’ll definitely order that again.
I recommend this restaurant. If environmentally friendly packaging is important to you, then you might not like the restaurant’s take away containers because they are made of foam.More
