My first experience with Balkan cuisine was nothing short of a ton of fun, delicious flavors, and great service. When you walk in, you are immediately taken by the decorative ceiling with overhead plants and a view into the open kitchen. On this night they...were serving a restaurant week menu for $55 per person off of a really expansive menu of tapas dishes. Comparing the more limited a la carte menu, it was a no brainer to pay slightly more to sample a wide array of food. Boy that paid off bc immediately we got to taste two warm soups, steak tartare that just killed it, the lentil spread that we dipped the moist pita bread and cornbread in, and picked vegetables. Marina, our server, was just tremendous, checking in with us every 10 mins or so. Next we ordered lamb braised for 6 hours, beef short rib goulash with trofie pasta cooked for 5 hours, both of which were crazy good. We also enjoyed the pork wrapped in cabbage, pepper croquette, drunken mussels, flash fried cauliflower, asparagus with quail egg and yams. Topped off with decadent chocolate cake and cream pie. The meat flatbread (just like pizza) kale Caesar (taste was way too sharp) and chicken stroganoff (aftertaste was off) were below par though. Still our experience was augmented by the attentive customer service and speed of the dishes arriving. *Our culinary journey took about 1.5 hrs and I mention this bc you must watch your parking meter (which you can only feed in one hour increments) if you park in the adjacent lot. This lot is notorious for aggressive towing even if you go over a min or two (I saw a car get towed that night).More
