When it came time to order, I had not properly prepared. All three of my previous visits to Ambar had been with a Serbian friend who ordered for me. Everything had been great, but I could not remember the dishes’ names. Our waitress said she...was also a Serb and then she recommended the Ambar Experience. We all ordered it and it's hard for me to imagine anyone would not have truly enjoyed this meal. There was not only a great variety of food, it was all delicious. The "small dishes" just kept coming. At one point we had asked her to stop serving, but another waiter was already enroute with some lamb lasagna --- who's not going to eat that? Yum! Unlike my food dilemma, I came all set for the wine selection. I had really enjoyed the Rebula, Ferdinand at a Slovenian friend’s house and was planning on ordering it, but our waitress recommended the Zilavka, Stobi. Never having tasted a Macedonian wine, I was a bit hesitant. No need --- it was an excellent recommendation. The Zilaka had a clean, minerally taste, like a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, but just a big grassier. Everyone enjoyed it and the wine complimented the Ambar Experience.More

This restaurant is unique - Balcan food served in small "tapas" type servings. They have an "all you can eat" option for $35/person ... never go with anything other than that, unless you are looking for a very small meal. The bartender makes excellent drinks,...including some unique creations.More

Four of us went on a Saturday morning. We were seated promptly but had to ask repeatedly for a server. We were required to select from the $34 a person brunch all you can eat tapas menu or a la carte from the same menu....We could not order from the lunch menu. The food deserves 4 stars but the service really 2 stars. Our food came out helter skelter - for example two received salads but the other two had to wait another ten or fifteen minutes for a first dish. Then two received chicken sliders while another had to wait twenty minutes and another finally got hers while we were paying the bill. Anyway it was a bit unnerving. We will try again but not when it's only brunch.More

If you have desire to make selfies with food and post it on social media, this might be the place you want to visit. If you want to eat, especially "European style" food, you are 5000 miles away from it. Except Sarma, maybe, food is...way of the taste, you would expect to eat. Portions are laughable for the price you pay (plus parking and tip). If you are hungry, go somewhere else. Style over substance is the best description of this place.More

First time visit to Ambar, and we chose the all you can eat option. We asked our server to make suggestions of the best variety of dishes to sample that would allow us to enjoy the menu. The dishes kept coming, and each gave us...samplings from each area of the broad menu. We ate until we could eat no longer in one sitting. We will definitely return to enjoy more of the Ambar menu!More

Honestly this place is one of my favorite restaurants in the DC area. Its a fantastic spot to take a date, and the food is very delicious. the spreads and special bread they serve there alone is worth the money. Yes the restaurant is a...little pricey but well worth it. Brunch at Ambar, honestly is so much fun to go with a bunch of friends. **Pro-Tip** if you go to Costco and buy the gift cards, you can save like 20%, don't tell no one!More

Solid as always. They keep improving while maintaining the favorites. Great staff as well, mostly Balkan which makes a difference!

Ambar is an ideal resto if you want fantastic and fast service, and a wide assortment of delicious food. We opted for the unlimited small plates for $35 a person, and enjoyed everything from grilled shrimp skewers to roasted brussel sprouts to cheese pies. The...options are many, and just about everything we had was really good. The drunken mussels were a touch disappointing, as they were so small and one didn't even have meat in it, and I've had better seared salmon, but everything else was great--especially the shrimp and all the veg plates (like the brussel sprouts and asparagus). The service was excellent: prompt, attentive, friendly. No complaints at all. I liked that they were fast w/ bringing out the small plates as well, as opposed to other tapas restos where the wait between plates can be far too long. Chill atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating... Would recommend and would eat here again.More

We recently ordered curbside pickup from Ambar. What we got, in addition to our chicken kabobs, was a multicourse feast for two. All of the many side dishes were outstanding. We'll be back.

We did takeout, so we didn't actually use their outdoor seating. However, when we picked up our food, we saw they had set up a tent in the parking lot behind the building (off of Fillmore) and the tables seemed spaced out... More
