My husband and I are not locals but found ourselves in Amherst one evening around dinner time. Upon the recommendation of a stranger (also not a local), we tried Traveler's. What an unexpected and pleasant find! My husband ordered a steak and I had the chicken piccata and both were excellent (and we have high expectations!). Our server was really... More

We stumbled upon this little restaurant/bar at the "T" intersection of US60 and US29 as we explored the quaint downtown area of Amherst, VA. The nice folks at the "Warehouse" antique store across the street recommended it to us this way, "You won't be disappointed" It was early on Sunday evening so we had the place to ourselves. The walls... More

We took a break from camping and kayaking at James River State Park and decided to explore Amherst, Virginia. The Camp Hosts at the park recommended Travelers. What we found was a delightful Bistro sized establishment with some wonderful light lunches. Both selected a chicken salad wrap with a side of fresh coleslaw and a draft. Just the perfect match... The service was excellent. Friendly and attentive wait staff. The food was delicious, we will definitely be going back! We had a party of 6 and ordered 3 appetizers to start, we were not disappointed. The feta/bacon dip was so good I would go back for just that! They had a very interesting menu, not your everyday fare and we... More

Bacon Cheeseburger was great and cooked the way I like it. Also, it was big, better than 1/3 pound if I had to guess. My husband ordered the Reuben for the second time because it was great last week when we went. I love that we can get a good meal on Monday in Amherst. Keep up the good work.

Heard from a friend that Traveler's had a new owner & cooks so I decided to give it a try for drinks Saturday night. We sat at the bar and Monica waited on us, she was very friendly and encouraged us to look at the new menus. I'm glad she did, there were more than a few dishes on it... More

Restaurant is under new management, new wait staff and a new menu. Went with a group of friends, and the place was packed. Service was fractured at best. Waitress asked one of our friends 3 different times for his drink order. He replied each time, but also said he only wanted 1 drink, and finally it came. Salads came out... More

We go fairly often for lunch and dinner. The menu is impressive for a small restaurant in a very small town. Absolutely love their sweet potato fries! The fish is fresh and the steaks are good. The atmosphere is friendly.
