My party of 4 and I were in the area after an activity and needed to find a place for dinner in the area. I had had my heart set on Mia's Italian Kitchen, but there was no availability at all. Il Porto Ristorante was...suggested as an alternative for fine Italian dining and I'm so glad it was-- they had an open table for 4 available that I reserved for exactly the 10 minutes it would take to walk over there. This being on a summer Saturday during dinner hour, so I feel that we really lucked out! The atmosphere is gorgeous, with a very Old World-style feel to it. It has very unique and cozy décor. There are two levels, as well as an outdoor seating area. My group was seated upstairs where there were a variety of tables to accommodate any party size, comfortably spaced for privacy and COVID safety. The staff was extraordinarily polite, professional, and the service was top quality. Now, I don't dine out a lot, so this may be one of the most "fine" dining experiences I had- including all of the little touches: We purchased a bottle of Riesling for the table and they had us sample and approve it before pouring. The waitstaff took orders in a traditional way, taking ladies' orders first. It really almost felt like being in Italy with the staff, the setting, and the food! My party ordered Il Pollo Siciliano, Tortellini al Pesto, Lasagna, and Cappellini Primavera, respectively-- all of which were just delicious, flavorful, wonderful dishes! All of the entrees came with a very fresh house salad, and there was fresh, warm bread for the table. I have a feeling that everything on the menu is an excellent choice! While this is definitely a pricier establishment (at least to my budget!), in my opinion it is of excellent value for the quality of the food and for the service. I highly recommend Il Porto Ristorante for a special night out, a romantic date location, or even to book a small group for a celebration or party.More

Beautiful table accommodating COVID outside during lunch. Javier arrived promptly with a warm greeting and water. I ordered the Penne Alla Romana con Funghi. Fresh pasta with a delicious red sauce made for bread dipping. Fantastic. We will be back.

Visited here with several friends to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was very busy and although we had reservations we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated which was non problem. When we got seated our waiter Jesus came over right away to deliver...the menus and take drink orders. After that it took thirty minutes for him to come back to take our meal orders, then it too another thirty minutes to get our food. Busy is one thing, but having to wait an hour twenty minutes for food is just way too long. I ordered the Pollo Siciliano and it was really good. The fried eggplant on top of the chicken was perfect and went well with the sauce and the chicken. My wife had the chicken marsala and she really enjoyed it, said the chicken was tender and the mushroom sauce was good as well. We also had the chocolate Raspberry cake, it was OK, but lacking in taste. We all really enjoyed our meal, but won't return because of the very long waitsMore

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. While we are very fortunate to receive business during COVID-19, our safety policies add to wait times. Our waiters and kitchen must take extra steps to ensure our COVID-19 protocols are being followed. Unfortunately,...More

We showed up and got a seat outside right away. The service was great. I ordered the Cappilini Primavera and it was outstanding. The bread also was great.

Hello, we ate here last evening and had a wonderful experience. We both had veal dishes that were delicious and the veal was very good! Dessert was a gelato truffle that was excellent. I ordered a house red that was a Sangiovese that I enjoyed....They had a full house sitting outside that was diverse. Next time we’re in area would eat here again.More

So my husband and I walked up today Sunday at 130p. The place was pretty busy. We have always wanted to try it but we always think of it too late. Can't believe we never did because we live right around the corner. So today...he walks in as I had our dog. My husband is latino. He was told they had one table maybe around the corner. But he said the guy /host was kind of nasty or maybe racist. I figured maybe just busy, so I go ask how long for a table in the front sidewalk area. He said "next table gets up it's yours, just take it". I said do you want my name, he said no, just wait there and take it. So we waited, talked to a table near the door, and within minutes a table opened. So we sat down. The waiter never came, then the host/Mgr came over and said I am cleaning this table for a six top. I said, you told me to take the next table, he said no I didn't. I was shocked. I said yes you did. He said no I didn't, I told you I had a 6 waiting. He never did and now lied. So I no longer want to even eat here. But I said again. You told me in front of those people to grab and sit at the next table. He again made up a complete lie to my face. It's obvious that as soon as he saw me sitting with my husband that the reason he did it was my husband's ethnicity. I am still in shock and wanted to confront him again, but my husband said don't let it, him ruin our day. So I am not. But I am posting this review and will never step foot in there again, and I will tell my friends not too as well. So disgusted. Btw, we sat next door at Landini Brothers and had an excellent meal. The table he said that had 6 waiting, was never sat...More

Let's see: over priced? Check. Apathetic service? Check. Low quality food? Double check. Look, I'm from Pennsylvania and i've had better italian meals at Olive Garden! The risotto was woefully undercooked and the shrimp were those little salad shrimp that you find on salad (my...family all had regular shrimp with their entrees). For $30, I can't believe they use salad shrimp in an entree - pathetic. Service is a pretty far cry from Italian. Maybe they should switch to Russian.More

My friend and I were in Alexandria the evening of March 27 and were attempting to have a nice dinner dining experience. Each of the five previous restaurants we visited had a wait time of 30 minutes to two hours. Upon arrival at Il Porto,...we were greeted with kindness and seated immediately. Our waiter, Roger, came right over and took our order in a prompt, courteous and efficient manner. We had an excellent dining experience, thanks to Roger and his courteous and professional manner. We plan to return to Il Porto in the near future to experience their fine hospitality again. Sincerely, Dr. Brian G. EasleyMore

We brought one of our relatives here from out of state because of the reviews online. After leaving, I don’t understand how it has such high reviews. Our service was horrible. Bread and salads came out at a reasonable time but 45 minutes after we...had finished our salads we still didn’t have our food. When we asked our waiter if the food would be ready soon he said “yes I’ll be right back with it” and comes back with three more salads. After we informed him we already had our salad (45 minutes prior) he walked away and brought our food out 15 minutes later so we waiting a full hour after ordering for three pasta dishes. I wouldn’t have chosen to write a review if the food had been on standard with the high prices but it was subpar. Salad, bread, and Calamari appetizer were good. I got the Capellini Primavera with “white wine sauce” which tasted like the frozen Bertolli pasta from a bag and there was maybe some olive oil on it but nothing close to a white wine sauce. My husband got the Pasta Primavera con Aragosta which had about one piece of lobster, a few MINI scallops, and some shrimp in a sauce that tasted like it came from a jar. My Mother in law got the Scaloppine alla Picatta which is SO THIN and not served with anything else. Just three pieces of meat on the plate. We were told the server was supposed to tell her she had the option of a salad or pasta but he didn’t and just gave her the salad without providing the option. None of us came close to finishing or even eating half of our meals which were $150 for three people. We came home and ordered pizza which we enjoyed much more than our meal here. When we were ready to leave we had to flag a random server down to get our check. We checked the items and total and everything was as it should be so we handed the check over with our card. After waiting another 20 minutes, they came back with the check which somehow got an extra meal added onto it (the meal wasn’t there when we checked the first time) so they had to refund it and start over. We finally were able to leave after 2.5 hours because of the slow service. Don’t recommend this place unless you’re looking for Olive Garden quality Italian food at double the price.More
