Our son works in Alexandria, and suggested this place. Good call. Adequate street parking in the area. Nice, good-sized restaurant that can accommodate groups. Service is good. The food was excellent. A bit pricey, but satisfying and tasty. We share an appetizer of hummus with...pita. My wife enjoyed a roasted half chicken. I had the tyropita, which is several cheeses baked in phyllo. It wasn't a large serving, but delicious and satisfying. Our son had the fried calamari, which was wonderfully light and tender. We'll probably have to go back there when we're in town.More

We went there in a family reunion after a very intimate wedding at the Courthouse. Since we arrived we were very well serviced

Perfect in every way. Nice wine, wonderful food and atmosphere. Great help and location. Beautiful garden. We had the flaming cheese, I had a Greek salad, the lemon soup, my husband had a combo. Love everything about this place.

This restaurant is one of my favorites in Old Town Alexandria!! The food is always fresh, super tasty and a wonderful variety. The fresh Branzino is terrific. This is family run and they do their best to make you happy - with the food and...seatings. If it is warm outside - this is the best patio in OT. The Greek Resina wine is a must to me.More

Disappointing aptly describes our recent experience at the restaurant. Once regarded as one of the finest Greek restaurants in the country, and our favorite, sadly it is no more. Known for its ambiance and Greek wait staff, food quality and presentation, and reasonable prices, this...is all gone. The moussaka was simply ground beef with a topping, the blob of taramasalata was served on a tiny plate with no chips or bread (we had to ask for this), the Greek Salad came with nearly no dressing, two tiny pieces of feta and although we asked for anchovies we got only one, and the house red wine was outrageously expensive. Even with allowances for Covid-19, this was all inexcusable.More

We came here with a party of six. The salmon salad was mediocre. The salmon was very good but the rest of the salad was average or below. The service was good considering that the restaurant was very busy. We sat in the outdoor court...yard which was pleasant except for the fact that noise was very loud. On balance this restaurant might be worth one more try.More

Saturday night I had dinner for the first time in your restaurant. I can’t complain about the service and the nice outdoor space. BUT I am sorry, I really don’t agree with such positive reviews about the quality of food. Instead of writing a review,...I should have preferred talking with the owner of this restaurant, but I didn’t want to be rude in front of my friend who suggested me to eat here. I am Italian ( real one, not the daughter of an Italian grandmother as many Italo-Americans here in USA), I know the freshness and the quality of food. I travelled in Greece and I ate there. Baby eggplants? Two slides of BIG eggplants covered with a sauce for 10$?!? When I say 2, they were really 2!! And so they were not at all baby eggplant. Fava bean mousse without any fava taste ( potatoes mousse with something green)..probably you can offer this dish because the majority of American people don’t know what A FAVA BEAN IS! and the lamb? It was over cooked, reheated and the taste completely covered by lemon ( the sauce was with lemon but it was really to much lemon) Who talk about GREAT FOOD, does really know what great food is? These opinions belong, I am sorry, to people without ANY culinary culture. And I forgot! A bottle of sparkling water 9$ !! Are you kidding me? A lack of respect of the real Good Great Greek Food!!More

I love the convenience of this restaurant, four minutes from our hotel. The staff graciously welcomed our large party of 8 even though we arrived within an hour of closing. It was raining so we could not take advantage of what looks to be a...lovely outdoor space, Everyone enjoyed their food.More

Although the staff was friendly, the quality and quantity of the entre did not justify its high cost. There are many other close-by restaurants that offer better food at lower cost. After being seated I informed the waiter that I did not want water, but...then was offered water three more times!More

It was a beautiful summer day and I was hungry for lunch. I live here, so I am aware of tourists. We locals take advantage of them. I thought a nice salad outside surrounded by a lovely garden would be perfect. The hostess and waiter...were lovely. My salad was a catastrophe. Supposedly an entrée, greens shoved into a small bowl with two sandwich size slices of unflavorful tomatoes, slices of cucumber (both prepped for gyros, obviously), two dolmades, uncut red onion rings (also for a sandwich), some olives, two small pieces of Feta and two canned anchovies. Poor vinaigrette that tasted like nothing. Bland bread, that tasted like nothing. The salad couldn't be eaten without cutting the veggies with a knife, but in a small bowl, there was no room! I ordered sparkling water and was given a 24 oz. bottle costing $8. I was dining alone and my waiter know that. So, I spent $25 + tip on an awful lunch, but in a very pretty place.More

My husband and I ate here today on the patio, just wow, the food was amazing and the service (Kristian) was first class. We were treated like royalty from walking into the door to being seated. We both had the Taverna Cretekou special which is...a little portion of everything and it was delicious. My husband is 2nd generation Greek and said it was one of the best meals he’s had in a Greek restaurant. We will certainly return and highly recommend to anyone looking for a meal with a great atmosphere.More

Walking in Old Town we were looking for a nice restaurant for lunch. We are still comfortable eating outside only and the courtyard in the back of Taverna was empty. Our server was so completely friendly and helpful. We chose the Spanikopita, vegetarian selection and...Gyro. The appetizers were the extraordinary octopus along with hummus. We finished the meal with the special Greek coffee with ouzo and whipped cream. The price was reasonable, the food was fantastic, and the atmosphere superb. This is one of the best Greek restaurants I've been to. Everything on the menu is wonderful.More

Our large party of eight was so fortunate to dine at Taverna Cretekou tonight and to be seated in Abdel’s section. What a pro! From start to finish Abdel accommodated all of us, including the two toddlers in our party. Taverna Cretekou’s food is exquisite...—from stuffed grape leaves and crab-stuffed mushrooms to grilled octopus, baby eggplant (imam baildri) and calamari, all of us were impressed with our appetizers. Standout entrees included the lamb shank and Taverna Cretekou Special which features an array of Greek dishes such as moussaka and pastitisio. We look forward to returning to Taverna Cretekou next time we’re in Alexandria and will be sure to request seating in Abdel’s section. Thank you for your outstanding service, Abdel!More

We ate here on vacation 8 years ago and liked it so much, we made reservations to came back here a few weeks ago. The food is still wonderful and the service is great. I also loved that we could eat outside in a beautiful...courtyard. At one point, one of the waiters (with a stage voice) began singing to a table and had us all join in. I had the pastitsio which was excellent.More

What a great restaurant! If you can’t decide on what to get ask for the Taverna Cretekou Special... it’s got a little of everything. My wife got the Kotopoulo Kalamata, chicken with tomatoes and kalamata olives. The food was really well made. It felt like...you were eating at someone’s home. The portions were large. High point was the service. It seemed like everyone working in the place came by to ensure we were good. Try the beer, fix... Greek beer is pretty good, who would have known. Do yourself a favor, get the Baklava for dessert, it’s very good.More

They do, but it is a Greek place so lamb is the word. There are plenty of good steak places, this isn't one of them.
