We ate here on vacation 8 years ago and liked it so much, we made reservations to came back here a few weeks ago. The food is still wonderful and the service is great. I also loved that we could eat outside in a beautiful...courtyard. At one point, one of the waiters (with a stage voice) began singing to a table and had us all join in. I had the pastitsio which was excellent.More

What a great restaurant! If you can’t decide on what to get ask for the Taverna Cretekou Special... it’s got a little of everything. My wife got the Kotopoulo Kalamata, chicken with tomatoes and kalamata olives. The food was really well made. It felt like...you were eating at someone’s home. The portions were large. High point was the service. It seemed like everyone working in the place came by to ensure we were good. Try the beer, fix... Greek beer is pretty good, who would have known. Do yourself a favor, get the Baklava for dessert, it’s very good.More

Had a great meal, service and experience (November 2020), with outdoor seating on the patio. Dolmas (grape leaves), lemon-slavord roast chicken, greek beer. Delicious. Go.

We have only eaten out a few times since the outbreak of the coronavirus, and only when we can eat outside. We have always loved this restaurant and it has been a go to place for out of town guests who always love it. We...sat in the back patio. It is so charming, with twinkling lights, and cozy spaces to sit. We had so much space and never felt any concern whatsoever of others being too close. Even the waiters kept respectful distance but always showed up just when we needed. It really was such a romantic evening. We now know we can go out, be safe, and have a wonderful evening out.More

Excellent Avgolemono soup and Flounder entree, with friendly service by a lovely Romanian waitress whose name unfortunately escapes me at the moment. Efkaristo and Multimesc!

Only had a braised lamb shank, but that's all I need to have to avoid this restaurant. Lovely garden, but the meal I had was subpar. Mediocre lamb served with a watery and tasteless red sauce and swimming in soupy orzo is not what I...expect from great Greek cuisine. This classic dish should be the mark of a good Greek restaurant. Have the other diners who rate this so highly ever had fine Greek cuisine? I think not. Maybe for the unsuspecting it passes muster, but for those who admire and love Greek cuisine, it fails the test.More

I have loved this restaurant for 36 years- coming 4-6 times a year. I have recommended it. I brought my mom for mother’s day and celebrated many other events. Tonight I met 2 relatives with a reservation for lovely patio. In ordering i ordered first-...requesting their crab & shrimp stuffed white fish- a favorite. But my relatives ordered the appetizer Platter to share - each is for TWO people. As soon as I realized I was clear and changed my order- both in English and Spanish- to our nice waiter. I ordered a second appetizer platter for 2 persons (the same they ordered) and not the fish. I said it twice. I said it before he left the table- he had NOT placed the order in kitchen. He returned with the two appetizers on one tray (though it did not appear to serve 4 people). He was attentive with water and warm pita bread. About 10-15 minutes later he said my fish dish was coming. I said that I had clearly changed the order and all 3 of us ordered two appetizer platters (approx $17 each- or approx $40). I said I had been clear that the fish was cancelled. We had 3 drinks. So the meal, for 3 adults, was approx $61 without tip. That is a respectable amount- especially in this economic time. The two owners came and lectured me (us) in full voice that they needed us to order more than appetizers. I am not making this up. I made clear we had ordered 2 appetizer trays that serve 4 people And 3 drinks. We were not 3 people sharing one small appetizer and water. Besides they had not mentioned any requirement for ordering an entre per each person when we reserved the table or arrived. No signs said that or anything about a minimum order. Again, our TWO appetizer plates were almost $20 each and we ordered 1 beer and 3 wines. The owners were incredibly rude- a departure for their friendliness these last 30 plus years. They shamed us (or tried to) for not spending enough money - they said that they had difficult times during Covid. I answered “you should have told us this when we made the reservation or when we ordered. Why try to shame us after ordering the meal” I explained that I wasn’t eating out as often and never imagined restaurant owners being so demanding or rude. We left $80 in cash for a $61 meal. We didn't want to harm the waiter’s job or livelihood. We all know Covid is a terrible strain on many businesses. But sadly I will never return. Vasos is located nearby. Lebanese Taverna is 2 miles away. There are plenty of ofher restaurants that seem respectful for spending $20 plus per person( plus 30% tip). Too bad. This restaurant has been a terrific place for 35 years. But nothing like getting shamed for not spending enough when all of us are affected economically. Trying to imagine what my customers would say if I spoke to them that way. I think they’d fire me.More

Delicious. The combination that included Mousaka, grape leaves, spinach pie and more was a perfect tasting of Greek classics.

Who would have thought that on a cold winter day that the mousaka would be colder than the temperature outside. Ok that maybe bit of poetic licence nevertheless it was cold. The bechamel sauce was a solid gel like substance weighing down the single piece...of eggplant protecting the diner from the ghastly dry mince underneath. Then there were were overcoooked yet luke warm vegetables what seems to be served fresh from the bain marie sotting visibly at the rear of the restaurant. America, famous for its hospitality and can do attitude was let down by the surly owner who had the temerity to ask if I had ever had Mousakka before. Apparently it was all my fault. When I raised the matter of being charged for the meal she claimed that I ate most it yet it was self evident that I barely touched it. She had an utterly dismissive and rude demeanour. Despite the fact they asked us how the meal was and we told them their enquiry was clearly form over function. We were tourists and treated in a cynical manner.More

Had dinner here with a friend the other night (before seeing the show at Little Theatre). I'm not sure how long Taverna Cretekou has been here but we have been eating here since 1985. We were a bigger group at one time but some have...reetired and moved; another we lost to cancer. We eat here a couple of times each theater season because the food is always great and service is too. The menu is pretty extensive. The problem is that the food is so good that making a decision can be really tough. It is a family run place and even on your first visit is hard not to feel like family. Eating here is the perfect dining experience.More

They do, but it is a Greek place so lamb is the word. There are plenty of good steak places, this isn't one of them.
