This tiny bistro in olde towne is a wonderful bit of nostalgia. The walls are covered in art noveau and deco prints memrobilia etc. the star is the food. Mushroom caps were A1 nd the salads were perfect. Quiche Lorraine was rich and creamy. Beef...tips in brandy cream sauce was heavenly. Lovely puréed carrot and the scallop potatoes were to die for. It’s a very small intimate place. A true delightMore

We had a fantastic lunch. Every dish, from appetizers to desserts, was exceptional. The wine paired nicely and they heated the frangellico to just the right temperature. The staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. We enjoyed ourselves so much we missed a scheduled tour in...DC and didn't mind at all. As my grandson said, "this meal was like a warm hug".More

Wonderful french restaurant. Best I have had. Great french atmosphere. Wonderful music playing. Very reasonable prices. Great selections. The escargot wasin a tomato sauce and tasted flavorful. The stuffed mushrooms were big and plentiful. The frogs legs were the biggest plate i have seen at...a restaurant. The lamb shank was cut yhin and in a grest sauce. The scalloped potatoes nice and creamy. Definitely worth the try. Get a bread basket withvthe food. Good choices and soft butter.More

Lovely lunch with a friend during Covid time. We were there around 1 PM and only one other customer was in the restaurant. The service and food were perfect. The stuffed mushrooms were a delicious appetizer, the pollo with mustard sauce accompanied by really nice...vegetables was scrumptious, and the chocolate mousse was the best ever. I highly recommend.More

Enjoyed dinner here mid-January. The menu offers many choices and there was a special menu too. I had endive salad (lovely), rockfish and crab with bearnise (perfection) and a caramel flan. My husband had the onion soup, cassoulet, and the chocolate puff pastry with ice...cream. Service was attentive and food service hot with artistic presentation. The atmosphere was cozy and charming and who wouldn't love the decor. Street parking was convenient on a Saturday evening. We were seated at a table that caught a cold draft of air with arrivals and distracting food pick-ups that took away from the experience. We would highly recommend!More

This place was great for a romantic dinner on the town. The restaurant is very cozy with french stuff all over the walls and music playing in the background. We had the calamari and mushrooms for appetizers and they were delicious. My date had the...salmon en crout which she was not fond of and waiter went out of his way to get her second option which was the sauteed shrimp and it was very good! Great service from the waiter with no hesitation taking care of us! I had the duck breast which I also thought was very good. Great service, food, and your date will not be disappointed!More

I'm amazed at how highly this restaurant rates. It's a neighborhood French restaurant with "French stuff" on the walls. Neither extremely nice nor run-down. The food is similarly fine, but mostly unmemorable. The prices, however, are very high for a restaurant that is not special.

I have eaten here many times over the years. The food is always fresh and flavorful. The staff is attentive and friendly. It has a European bistro vibe. Their crab stuffed Avocado is awesome. I highly recommend this restaurant. Try it. You won’t regret it.

Le Refuge is a gem of exquisite cuisine, outstanding service and French ambiance in Old Town Alexandria. We have been enjoying it for over twenty years. The cuisine is superb especially the filet mignonettes and the salmon. Very nice wine list. The service is attentive...and friendly. The restaurant is decorated with symbols of Paris and France. The place to go in town.More
